I honestly wouldn't be surprised if some of you people actually signed those petitions to get the attraction rethemed.
🙄🙄🙄🙄

There’s probably been only one person here who’s said that they fully support this change. So you either haven’t been paying attention to our posts this entire time, or you’re purposefully suggesting nonsense out of possible frustration.

They can when news outlets write articles about their demands.

By that logic Snow White’s Enchanted Wish’s ending would be changed aswell by now after Fox starting reporting that.

The changes to Pirates should be enough proof that Disney was already looking at retheming Splash. Yes the change got announced in the middle of the pandemic, but there was something far more important happening in the states at the time. Announcing the change there and then was necessary, they even highlighted the imagineer who is responsible for the change (hint, a woman of colour).

The majority of you on here seem pretty on board with the retheme to me. Otherwise why else would you be insisting that the attraction is racist?

Give them time.

The difference between the Pirates changes and the retheme is that with Pirates, they were changing something that's actually IN THE RIDE. I know that Song of the South exists, but nothing that's actually racist about the film is in the ride. I don't think it should matter that the characters in the ride come from Song of the South so long as the ride itself is not racist.

So you haven’t been reading the posts.

I can think of one poster who believes the attraction is racist. One. The majority of us have actually been discussing how we got here. That’s been the main focal point in this thread. There is no correlation between our actual discussions and supporting Splash’s removal/believing Splash is racist.

You keep saying that it has to be rethemed because it features a few characters from Song of the South. You can't claim you don't support the ride being rethemed and say you think it's problematic. It's extremely hypocritical.

You aren't listening. We're saying we DONT SUPPORT the retheme, but WE UNDERSTAND WHY the ride is being rethemed.

I said it “has” to be re-themed? I didn’t say that. In fact, I’ve said that Splash should be kept.

I said IT’S CONNECTION TO SONG OF THE SOUTH is problematic, hence why DISNEY feels encouraged to get rid of it. I didn’t say the actual ride was problematic. I’ve actually said Splash itself is not racist.

You can apply every argument for keeping the name Splash Mountain to Guardians.
Except for the fact that Mission Breakout tonally different and doesn’t really involve “terror.” I don’t think what you’re saying is completely wrong, but I do think Splash Mountain would be a more applicable/likely name for that reason and because there are other similarly-named mountain rides.

Wow! That's a whoooole lotta straw men you've built there. Can you quote anyone on this board who has said that Splash Mountain the ride is racist? Maybe someone has, I don't read everything here, but it sure as hell would be an extreme minority, if any at all. The vast majority view denies that the ride itself is racist, but understand why Disney is doing this at this time.

You are letting your emotions get the better of your rational thought, and misrepresenting other poster's opinions.

OH OK... so this isn't some random people on the internet's fault... it's the media.

So? Why can't some people have a difference of opinion?

You, @EagleScout610, and @el_super immediately come to mind.

You don't have to support the retheme (whatever that means to you), but you need to stop with the whacked out conspiracy theories. Those are going to continue getting called out.

Maybe El Super (can’t remember), but I know I’ve never condemned you for wanting to see Splash stay (how could I when I also want it to stay?) and I don’t think Eagle Scout has either.

You're mostly making things up here.

Just to be clear, I have said all along that there is nothing wrong with liking Splash Mountain or even wanting it to stay. I even went so far as to suggest that people who like Splash Mountain aren't even racist, and the desire to keep it is (mostly) not coming from a place of hatred.

@Brer Panther keeps insisting this is a 'you're either with us or against us' moment in theme park fandom. And that 'no true Disneylander' would ever stand idly by and watch 'the internet' tear down one of the greatest theme park rides ever envisioned by Walt Disney (20 years after he died). This insistence that, if you're not standing by with torches and pitchforks to burn down some guy's twitter account, you're part of the problem, is what I am mostly taking offense at now.

Not only are these arguments based out of nothing but logical fallacy, it cheapens and hurts the overall message of inclusion being sought after by Disney. It's almost as if it's a purposeful attempt to make sure Splash Mountain's removal is in vain.
