Why exactly are they removing the theming?
I'm guessing for the tracks. The ride is getting new tracks; makes the most sense.
Why exactly are they removing the theming?
Updates being made to the attraction will include:
- New ride vehicles (but don’t worry – they’ll still look like the trains that you know and love!)
- Track replacement (but the attraction will still follow its current course)
- Repainting portions of the mountain itself (Walt Disney Imagineering has once again carefully studied Bryce Canyon for inspiration)

Promising news! According to Alain at Disneyandmore, Rainbow Ridge is not going anywhere. They are merely removing it so that they can rebuild it as it is old and in pretty bad shape.

Good to hear. That would have been a loss of history for no really good reason. Rebuilding it is excellent news.Promising news! According to Alain at Disneyandmore, Rainbow Ridge is not going anywhere. They are merely removing it so that they can rebuild it as it is old and in pretty bad shape.

Add three more and you have the current UO's skyline.
Interactie queue going in as well, perhaps??
Oh gosh, I hope not.
You know, I've heard the complaints on the board and our visit to WDW last month I was able to see what they did to the HM. I really didn't mind it. We all thought it was kinda neat, and didn't really jack with the ride itself.
If they do something like they did with Indiana Jones at DL, I wouldn't mind it. Subtle stuff is welcome, especially for that long line.
When the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad refurbishment is complete this fall, Rainbow Ridge Mining Town will look very much the same as it always has. It is being refurbished with new materials, but many items from the original area will be reused such as props, signs and select doors, windows and shutters. Several other items are being turned over to the Disney Archives.
