From what I gather, this is what it's like unless you go during the summer. I would never go then. Not intentionally. :) It's okay on my end. I wouldn't be heartbroken if I had to cancel/postpone. I feel for others who are more committed/emotionally invested than me. ;)

Summer tends to have rides closed as well. Each time I visit, no matter what time during the year, SOMETHING's closed for refurbishment. It can be a little hard to catch the parks when everything's open. I also feel more for the emotional ones haha.

I'd expect something to be closed at all times. I think the laundry list is what I'd ideally like to avoid but so much changes continually I'm wondering if that's even possible. Maybe this is a sign or something that I'm too old & cranky for ANY parks vacations now. LOL!

Agreed!

If you plan on buying APs, hopefully a fun event will be scheduled for you guys and it can make up for the closed rides.

It's kind of a subject of debate around here right now. I was throwing my mom-weight behind Disneyland & APs. DH wants to see DL but he's ready to hop on any cruise with a discount these days. If we aren't doing something new I'd rather hold onto the money and stay home. ;)

The (un)official reopening date is now April 1, but I'm having doubts about it being able to reopen by that time. Granted, it's a long way off, but it'll be here before we know it. Anyway, here's one reason why the reopening keeps getting pushed back, according to Screamscape:

Is Big Thunder Mountain cursed? Some might think so after seeing how many delays have kept Big Thunder from re-opening, but there is a more logical explanation. While I’m sure there are many little nagging items that are contributing to the delay, one reader managed to get some candid information from a park supervisor about one of the major issues.

According to what they were told the latest delays were caused due to software problems with the ride’s control systems, sensors are apparently detecting ‘ghost’ trains and causing the trim brakes to stop or slow down trains too much in mid-ride, and apparently they’ve even had a couple of trains valley during testing so far. Obviously these issues need to be worked out, but they also indicated that there was a plan to have an Annual Passmember preview event for Big Thunder’s re-launch… but I’m guessing if they do, it may depend on timing of when the ride is ready ahead of the busy Spring Break and Summer seasons.

Now, I have no idea what the future holds at this point, and like I said, March 31-April 1 is still a bit of a way's off, but after reading the message, I'm not sure if the software problems in question will be able to be fixed in time. Granted, I do want them to be safe, but this is starting to get ridiculous. I'm worried that they won't even be able to make the upcoming summer season.

Of the closings on the books for this week, BTMR stings the most. We are leaving boston tomorrow morning for our 1st DLR trip and I'd gladly trade BTMR for Soarin.

I'm just worried that with the problems they've been having, like the software problems in the control systems, as I posted above in post #145, they won't be able to make their (un)official March 31 reopening. I'm just glad I'm not booking any trips at this point.

From Mouse Planet:

"Disneyland Resort cast members have been notified of a chance to participate in "Test and Adjust" previews of Big Thunder Mountain starting March 7. The testing is scheduled March 7-11, and cast members can get tickets at the Team Centers starting tomorrow (February 19).
No word about openings for the public, but this is great news for those waiting for Thunder to reopen."

Sweet...nice to see some movement here!
:)

From what i have heard over the last few months, the impression i am getting is that the added effects in the final tunnel/drop is going to be similar to the effects used for the final tunnel in BTM at Disneyland Paris.

Bring on those fiber optic 'explosions'...!
