I am all for it as long as they get the same quality. I would hate to see them buy trash cans from Home Depot with no themeing because it was cheaper...
You're not looking at a decrease in themeing. You're looking at a decrease in price for the same amount, if not more themeing.

I'm all for "change" at the "World" but, at the same time, the idea and visions of the man that made it possible should be used as a basis for that change. Putting in "pitch games" is just completely undermining a direct statement made by the man that started it all.
When Mr. Disney decided to build Disneyland, he didn't have anyone he could go to that would be able to create the immersive experience he was looking for. He was forced to create WED Enterprises in order to accomplish his goal.

Fifty years later, that is not the case. Themed entertainment is a gigantic industry with many players. Just because Disney is willing to bid out its attractions does not mean they are necessarily going to go with the cheapest bid.

Disney already buys unthemed garbage cans. They just paint them and theme them to fit in at the central shops. That won't change regardless of if it is WDI desigining the can design or of its Kirk Design, Inc. (http://www.kirkdesigninc.com). And to be honest I think that we would be better off if it were Kirk Design.

I wasn't talking about the "subbing out" to the lowest bidder on this one...just mainly basing my statement on the addition of the carnival games that were added to the parks when DinoRama! was created.

I understand that, in today's world, it's a necessity to outsource certain projects in order to stay "afloat" with the competition. If someone has already developed a ride system that can be utilized...why reinvent the wheel?

Lets not forget that those games in DinoRama were designed and installed by WDI.

I guess this is pretty much what we're all saying here. We know Disney, as a corporation, has to follow the ruling of the all-mighty dollar. We just hope the Magic doesn't get sacrificed for it.

Understandable...and I'm not backing WDI on it one bit. Whether something bad happens and it's outsourced or by WDI...it's still bad.

I'm not a fan of DinoRama! and I hate the theming and placement of it...but I would be able to accept it if those games weren't there. I'd take the addition of a ferris wheel or a scrambler over those pitch games.

Then let's just change the entire name of the park and company. Walt's dead, so why call it Walt Disney World? Kids nowadays don't have any recollection of the man so why bother keeping it named after him? Might as well call it "Funtown USA" or something.

DinoRama is the only real complaint that I have about anything in Walt Disney World...and not even the attractions themselves...just those carnival games.

I was told.....not sure if this is true, that they let the kids keep playing (for a one-time price) until they win something

WDI does bid some of their jobs and they do award to the lowest bidder. But WDI still dictates how their work will be done. Disney in general has a reputation for being controlling (and understandably so) and cheap. They hold their subcontractors to predetermined profit margins. Some outside companies won't even bid Disney jobs anymore. I know of a landscaping company that was invited to bid on some sod work somewhere on property and they were asked to only bid half the square footage as it would eventually grow in. Disney was right, but the labor and logistics of installing in a checkerboard pattern wasn't worth the halved price Disney was willing to pay. Declined to bid.

And if central shops bought a garbage can from Home Depot and painted it, I'll bet it would still cost $500.00. Central shops is not cheap! And Central shops is not WDI either.
