Things they didn't have before you're glad they have now

Is there anything you're glad Disney World has now that it didn't have when you went in the 70s, 80s, or 90s? For example, I for one am glad the Magic Kingdom has things like that area in Main Street you can bring your toddlers if they're a little overwhelmed or if your babies need diaper changes or just need a break. Not to mention some of the playground areas in the Magic Kingdom. I wish they had those when we went in '90 and my 3 year old autistic little brother was often running to the bathroom not because he had to go, but because it was one of the few places in Disney he could have a quiet time to himself. Stuff like like that would've benefited him then.
I also really like the value resorts. We didn't have those in '90 either and I really appreciate them. They may not be the Grand Floridian, but they're nice and fun. (and way cheaper XD) I also like Fast pass. I know some people here don't think much of it, but it's been a godsend for us at times. Especially for rides like Peter Pan and Space Mountain at peak times.
How about you guys? Anything Disney has now that you wish they had "back in the day?"

I like how they have kept the parks basically the same. It is AWESOME to be able to take my kids to the same park that I loved as a child. Also on our last trip we rode Living with the Land boat ride. We hadn't done that in years and I have to say it's such a great timeless ride:)

Oh, Fast passes definitely! When the DW and I first went in '05 we were dreading the long lines. The Disney I remembered you waited for everything from 30 minutes to 2 hours. It was too much and we considered not even giving Disney a shot. They really saved Disney for us and turned us into HUGE Disney fans, and we look forward to going back year after year. No FP, and we probably wouldn't have returned.

Also, love the additional parks and water parks. They helped to thin out the crazy crowds and give a wide variety of things to do. When I was little we only had MK and River Country. Then EPCOT Center was added for my next trip. Then HS and Typhoon Lagoon was there on my next trip, and now we have BB, DTD and AK as well. So, I love the expansion.

Value Resorts, to us are great, we are only in the room for sleeping anyways. I happen to love the environment of Pop Century!

I hope someone can correct me if I'm wrong here, but I think in the 80's, and maybe up to the mid 90's, their resort rates were considerably cheaper than what they are now making even the delux hotels of today "cheap" to stay in.

Magical Express. SO much easier to get to the resorts now than back in the 90s. I love not worrying about my luggage and getting to the parks that much sooner.

Everyone's rates were cheaper, whether at WDW or not. Their Deluxe hotels were out of our price range then, and the first time I stayed onsite it was at their brand new economy resort - CBR. They were charging around $80 - $100, but a hotel offsite with the same size rooms, similar amenities, etc was around $35 - $50.

I agree with both the FP and food choices being great additions - although IMO the food choices are starting to decrease. When I was pregnant on my second trip, and couldn't tolerate meat, it was very difficult to find anything to eat bedsides Mickey pasta with red sauce or cheese from the children's menu. The chefs were accomodating if you were willing to eat in a full service restaurant every meal ( costing time and money) , but there were no vegetarian options on most menus. I finally went out and bought a bag of bread, peanut butter, and sandwich bags to pack my own lunch.

Believe it or not the WDW bus system has come a long way. They used to use a flag system-needless to say it was pretty confusing.

The food, WDW totally changed their dining options for the better. I remember-my parents much more so-when the food was pretty much the same all over property. WDW seems to be reverting back to these old ways with the counter service food, but you cannot beat some of the signature restaurants-they are tops.

Trees. I've seen pictures from the MK in the early 70s, and because the trees hadn't grown tall yet, it didn't look like there was any shade anywhere. Summer must have been more intolerable than it already is, especially in those great polyester bell-bottoms that everyone was wearing.

Our kids love getting those fast passes! Not sure how long the park hopper has been around, but it gives you much more freedom from park to park, even though we think it should be free or a benefit to those who stay at Disney resorts.:D

Totally agree with the bus system, we jumped from park to park in no time. If you do your homework, their are some delicious places to eat at WDW.:slurp:

I started cracking up when I read this, because my parents are old grouches that sit around and complain about the state of the Disney company (Disney would roll over in his grave, it's about money not families anymore - tickets & food are astronomical, blah blah blah) and one of their complaints/"reasons" for not visiting Disney World in about 15 years is "it's too hot...there's no trees or shade anywhere...it's just too hot...Busch Gardens is much nicer because they have shade"

But they haven't been to WDW since I was a small child, so how the heck would they know? Trees grow...that's kind of what they do. I've tried telling them it's not like that any more, but apparently in their minds trees don't grow during 15 year periods, haha!
