They hitch hikers weren't working last Friday- wonder what you'd get in that instance,

Well They will ask people to hold their hands out look really amazed the whole ride and at the photo collection they will ask if you want to be holding Tinkerbell, baby Simba or Stitch

It will be interesting to see just how infrequently the hitchhiking ghost effect goes down after the photos are available...They will have much more incentive to keep it in perfect running order.

I'm thinking they actually retheme the shop itself and maybe a fresh paint job to match the décor of the HM...

I'd rather have a photo than a dvd/gif... I just can't see myself logging in or plugging device in to see a 10 second clip of the cute ghost effect... whereas a photo would go either in my album or on the mantel (near that awful Splash mountain one.. its just so bad its good)

What I think they should do, and could do, is offer all of the above, because they can take a hi-res photo/video to sell physical photos in the store for like $12-$15, and also e-mail a compressed, low res, web quality, "digital post card" version to put on Facebook for $1 each.

Now there's a thought. And a cheap way to get people to "like" your Facebook page at the same time. Lure 'em in!

If Disney wants to pursue this they have a good opportunity to do some fun things with the shop. During Colonial times a lot of goods were shipped from overseas. It would be fun if this shop became a bit of a curios shop but with a supernatural twist to it -- almost in the same light as Rolly Crump's "museum of the weird". That way they maintain the Colonial theme of Liberty Square while relating it to the Haunted Mansion. Painting the interior black and purple and selling plastic key chains would be a huge mistake.

Snapshots or a video from the ride??....sounds pretty standard. How about a lenticular portrait of yourself that changes to a ghoulish caricature like the ones hanging in the Mansion? That would be cool. They would only have to resolve the anachronism of having photography in Colonial America -- perhaps the images are something that look like they come from a printing press? ...or conjured from the supernatural?? (a.k.a. HP LaserJet with a wooden box built around it.) ;)

I love the way you think! YES! All of this, please.

(Can I have just one little wish granted with the colonial America, and even if it may break theme, but...please, HM wallpaper designs on fun adult stuff...even better if it's made to fit into colonial period and "antiqued"... I really don't think I'm asking for much here)

We're going to see a lot of on ride photo/video integration that will likely be auto synced with your Magic Band. This is really the clearest revenue maker attached to the project. It sounds like right now the auto syncing is only working with people that have paid for Memory Maker, but I would not be surprised if that changes soon.

I will also say that the Memory Maker program is great if you're going with kids and plan on doing a lot of meet and greets. Most of them have photographers there.

I would guess the on ride photo will be of the guests only and the effect will be added to the photo (as with the pic of people holding characters). So even if the effect is not operational on the ride, the photo will have a still of the occupants with a ghost.

I'm glad you thought up a way to incorporate both the Colonial and HM ideas into one shop; this is a best of both worlds scenario. Your creative ideas shine.

It's been rumored forever.
I remember those rumors. There was a plan in place back in early 2003 to send the Haunted Mansion photos (videos) to the room television sets of onsite guests. Guests could then use the TV remote to buy the photos (videos). As I recall, the idea was not implemented (or put on hold) due to insufficient bandwidth. The bandwidth problem was something NextGen was supposed to fix.
Once implemented, all guest photos (videos) would be available in guest rooms and on the Internet (for purchase on guest accounts).

I love the idea of an exclusively HM gift shop...actually I wish every attraction had attraction-specific merchandise only sold at that location and World Of Disney... not every single other store on property... It would make shopping fun again...

I agree. I would be more prone to purchasing merchandise if they tailored it to specific attractions. We love the ToT gift shop.

Like the idea of an exclusive Haunted Mansion gift shop, but Yankee Trader is a bit too far away.

Ideally, they would have used the space now occupied by Rapunzel's Enchanted Outhouses....expanded pet cemetery towards the east and built a "Servant's Quarters" that would have been built to match the HM and housed restrooms and a gift shop.

I like the Our Gang episode with the Wild Man - you know, the one that keeps saying "Eat-'em-up!" - while Spanky feeds him all kinds of stuff from the refrigerator. I thought that was hilarious when I was a kid.

I have all the our gang episodes on VHS.. Man I really wanna watch them again! I wonder if they sell a DVD collection?

Im all for it, yankee trader sells kitchen ware and not much else. Any thematic merch there was gone years ago might as well sell haunted mansion items.

Our trip this past April is the first trip we've ever used Memory Maker (or Photopass.) What made me do it was personal, a long trip with just my DD and me, she had just graduated college and I wanted the memories. What disappointed both of us was the lack of photographers as they were basically only around the iconic structures and we were not about meeting characters.

I am hoping you are right and that there will be more and more attraction photos. When the trip was over those were the photo's that made the price worth it, photo's we couldn't do ourselves. The glitches in the system were addressed by our April trip and Disney didn't loose any of our photos still or on attractions. The MB made it easy just wished there were more. I wasn't a FP+/MB supporter or for entering the park after the trip but for Memory Maker, entering room and QS dining plan it did make those procedures easier.

I love the idea of a HM gift shop. A cart is really insufficient for HM. But I am grateful for the cart tho.

HAHA! well ok not necessarily Facebook, but there are more and more people who only have, and only really want digital photos in general. You can buy most things now in either a digital or physical form, books, music, movies, and everybody's cell phone has a camera in it, but for some reason Disney is only willing to sell these photo pass plans for $200 instead of selling the individual photos. You can go on Amazon or iTunes and buy individual MP3s of any the songs, from all the soundtracks, to all of Disney's films, but I can't go on-line and buy an individual photo from a Disney vacation?

I really struggle see how well Yankee Trader would work for an on-ride photo. It's not exactly an "exit through the gift shop" sort of place; you'd have to exit, wander down a path, not turn off to the huge path to the snazzy new restrooms, and then wander into a fairly small shop that's a little further down and out of the way of all major traffic flow

It would work fine for an attraction-based shop, but at ~170' away from where guests exit the HM building (with a major walkway in between), I think it's a lost cause to try and get them all in there to view their photos
