The Yankee Trader closing for refurbishment - is a dedicated Haunted Mansion gift shop coming?

If the photo offer involved the OLD Hitchhiking Ghost scene, I'd snap one up in a minute.

But since it'll be those flat fake-looking projections...pass.

But I love the idea of a dedicated gift shop for the Haunted Mansion...hopefully the YT facade will look a bit like the Mansion itself.

This is the best news I have heard in a long time. I am a huge HM fan (horror fanatic in general). Just depressed that I will be making my trip in August and it will not be open yet. Probably a good thing for me, as I would just spend a ton of money anyway.

Well, that's one down. Still two to go.

I hope I look as terrible as I do in the Splash Mountain on ride photo I have! Because... WOW.

I'm actually not too crazy about the new Hitchhiking ghosts mirrors/scene, but it's still kinda cute. I don't know how that'll translate to a photograph without being cartoonish.

Not complaining though.. I'm digging (eh? no? it's a stretch, sorry) the idea of an HM gift shop.

I actually like the new Hitchhiking ghosts projections. It was fun and something different.

I also really like the idea of a HM specific gift shop, but doesn't Yankee Trader already carry mostly HM stuff? I really couldn't look around much due to crowds in there but they definitely have a section, or sections, with merchandise. So I must not have bothered to pay attention to the rest of the merch, lol.

I love the idea of an exclusively HM gift shop...actually I wish every attraction had attraction-specific merchandise only sold at that location and World Of Disney... not every single other store on property... It would make shopping fun again...
Sold ONLY at the specific locations would be fine, trouble is, it won't be. Same villainous and HM stuff will be available at Mouse Gear or the Emporium and so forth.

Wasn't it that they will film the hitchhiking ghosts interacting with you and sell you the dvd instead of a photo. That's the rumour I heard anyways

If they record it as video they wouldn't need to sell anything physical like a DVD, they could just record it and upload it to your My Magic/Photo Pass thing and you can pay for an Mpeg4 or some other digital video file of it from there. Or if the video is high enough resolution you could grab a still of your choosing from it and maybe buy a print at the "soon-to-be-refurbed" Yankee Trader building

I'm thinking they actually retheme the shop itself and maybe a fresh paint job to match the décor of the HM...

I'd rather have a photo than a dvd/gif... I just can't see myself logging in or plugging device in to see a 10 second clip of the cute ghost effect... whereas a photo would go either in my album or on the mantel (near that awful Splash mountain one.. its just so bad its good)

We were just there Saturday and at the Hitchhiking Ghosts scene, Love says to me, "I'll never understand why they don't sell photos of this!!" (to which I pointed out it was very likely coming.) But I agree with him. It seems like such an obvious no brainier. I mean this way a ghost can literally follow you home!

I like the new Hitchhiking Ghosts too. I think it was a great update.

My gripe about it is where they are going to take your picture..

Was going to ask the same thing. Maybe the hitchhiking ghost scene? For it to work, whoever is in the doom buggie and the ghost have to be in the photo. But that section goes down all the time.

If Disney wants to pursue this they have a good opportunity to do some fun things with the shop. During Colonial times a lot of goods were shipped from overseas. It would be fun if this shop became a bit of a curios shop but with a supernatural twist to it -- almost in the same light as Rolly Crump's "museum of the weird". That way they maintain the Colonial theme of Liberty Square while relating it to the Haunted Mansion. Painting the interior black and purple and selling plastic key chains would be a huge mistake.

Snapshots or a video from the ride??....sounds pretty standard. How about a lenticular portrait of yourself that changes to a ghoulish caricature like the ones hanging in the Mansion? That would be cool. They would only have to resolve the anachronism of having photography in Colonial America -- perhaps the images are something that look like they come from a printing press? ...or conjured from the supernatural?? (a.k.a. HP LaserJet with a wooden box built around it.) ;)
