Inspired Figment

Funny you mentioned since there was a brief period where Disney attempted to make Figment more recognizable to the general public (outside of hardcore Disney fans) by making a series of edutainment videos that were sold exclusively to local schools between 1988-1989 by Disney Educational Media (under the Epcot Educational Media). Even further back was the launch of Disney Channel (then "The Disney Channel") with the unproduced "Dreamfinders" series back in 1983.
Yup, they indeed made that effort.. but for some bizarre reason, Eisner canceled the Dreamfinders project by the time he became CEO. Supposedly it was too “complex”. I call BS on that one.. just look at what they were capable of producing through shows like Pooh Corner & Dumbo’s Circus for instance..
Never made sense to me why there wasn’t a larger effort to promote Figment & Dreamfinder in the past. Same goes for the other park-exclusive EPCOT characters. Their whole “issue” folks brough up was “a lack of characters” right? So it sure seems redundant to me not to go & promote the very characters you created specifically for that park. All it’d do is create more incentive & desire to go for guests that wanna “meet those characters” per say.
