The World's Most Magical Celebration - Walt Disney World's 50th anniversary

Apparently unpopular opinion: I think Happily Ever After is fantastic, has the perfect amount of sensory load, is very appropriate for the MK castle, and I hope it gets a 50th tag at some point and that it lasts another decade.

I would go so far as to say it’s the best executed attraction at MK.

I just hope those ribbons (and the salmon) don’t mess up the projections.
Totally agree about HEA! Fantasmic was my all time favorite Disney nighttime spectacular for the longest time, but one trip in May 2017 changed all of that. If it does get a 50th tag, I hope it can top the current finale. It’s very much perfect with the narration, tinker bell, and the multitude of colors that the Castle transitions through. And don’t forget the fireworks/pyro as it color matches the projections/music which is ultimately pleasing.

As far the decorations, a lot of it seems “flat” and within the current boundaries of the castle. In other words not much is obtrusive and sticks out to ruin the actual outline of the castle to create shadows and such.

HEA is, indeed, wildly popular. They tried calm and artistic (and sucky, IMHO) with RoL and failed. Thus all future shows will follow the HEA model as they assume calm and artistic was RoL’s problem, not that it was boring and the visuals didn’t work.

That doesn’t bode well for HARModious.

Are the added decorations *really* iridescent, or just painted to appear to be?

What is iridescence, if not special paint appearing?
I understand what @MisterPenguin is saying here - there is a difference between treating an object with paint that is itself iridescent and using non-iridescent paint in a scheme that creates the "forced" illusion of iridescence.

Truth be told, it DOES appear that the iridescence here is "forced" rather than genuine. Doing that results in a guarantee that the paint scheme looks good from any angle regardless of lighting. Something the paint scheme on the Castle itself is SORELY lacking.

If you gasp enough watching something, it was good, right? Worked for the Roman Colosseum. Works for Universal. I’m less inclined to see it used at Epcot but they didn’t ask me.

At the very least, it won’t age well. What is hip and exciting in 2022 won’t be in 2027. The inspiring nature of RoE is why it could survive 20 years.
The new Magic Happens parade at Disneyland was hip and edgy when it opened in February 2019 2020. Arguably, it was actually a few months behind the then-current trends, but still very much fit the zeitgeist with its over-the-top fashion styles and dancers strutting, sashaying, and serving up moody looks. The parade had about 2-dozen performances before the park closed due to the pandemic.

I'm really curious to see how it plays whenever they get around to having parades again in that park, likely at least a year and a half after the parade's original debut. Obviously a lot has changed in the world over the course of the last year, and it seems like tastes have trended toward things that are more genuine, earnest, and sincere as we all navigate our new circumstances together. When it opened, the parade seemed a little too pretentious and self-indulgent for DL, and I think the last year has only deepened that divide.

It will be interesting to see how audiences receive it when it returns, and what (if any) changes are made to it. I suspect it will feel a lot more dated than it really is, though WDW's iridescent 50th décor may help extend its shelf life slightly.

5th gate? Just build a new resort Bob.
Find a CD and look at it's underside.

:/ I thought it was a pretty good joke

Is TDL's Moat depth the same as MK?

I believe so. IIRC their castle is lower (fantasyland is minus the basement)

It's not as deep, nor is the rest of the hub water. This is really obvious around the Tomorrowland bridge.

Fun fact, Fantasyland not having the basement is why you have to walk up a ramp in the queue for Peter Pan to get to the load platform and why the facade has an extra layer of castle wall to hide the show building.
