The World's Most Magical Celebration - Walt Disney World's 50th anniversary

I suspect the President’s announcement tonight will influence Disney’s approach to the parks moving forward through the year.

Nighttime shows more likely early summer? I’m sure though they won’t want to jump the gun to fast in case something unexpected goes wrong with vaccines or another unexpected wave comes through.

My family has been in essentially a total lockdown since March 2020. Vaccines should go into their arms within the next two or so weeks. We're planning Disney and Universal trips for the summer. If the people taking the more extreme precautions are comfortable with going in the summer, a lot of other people will be too.

The past couple of months, and Ratatouille's opening date, have given me the impression that Disney is being very pessimistic when it comes to a relative return to normalcy.

People need to put the brakes on. There are logistics in the president’s sound byte that need to be accounted for and overcome first. For example: how do states vaccinate a majority of their respective populations in 6 weeks?

Seriously, it’s like all thought and intelligence are removed when people hear a doddering old fool speak about vaccinations and they immediately think, “Oh WDW will be able to bring back fireworks!!!! Happy times are here again!!!” 🤦‍♂️ (I wouldn’t have responded any differently if the previous doddering old fool was still in the White House, btw)

-By increasing the supply of shots (which manufactures have promised)
-And by funding a huge vaccination drive (which the Covid relief Bill does.)

He didn’t say “vaccinated in 6 weeks.” He said “eligible in 7, vaccinated in 16.”

Shortly, we will be fully-vaccinating 2 million people per day (with a further 1 million first doses per day). There are somewhere around 230 million adults who are not fully vaccinated. That would take 115 days at this (reasonable) pace. 115 days is 16 weeks. Plus, we won’t vaccinate 100% of adults. 70-80% would be a job-well-done. That shaves off several weeks.

The CEO himself said vaccines available to all adults would be a game changer for the company.

So be quiet. Adults are talking.

I need more reliable sources for quotes. What I initially read (in many places) was “vaccinated by May 1”. He said “opened up to all adults by May 1”. Big difference. I concede the point.

I don’t know where most journalists go to college anymore (do they?). Reporting, in general, is awful.

I managed to stay awake for the speech. Cookies helped.

College, in general, is awful, and a HUGE waste of money.

I don’t really expect much to change about the start of the 50th, even with vaccinations. This is one case where Disney being cautious and risk-averse (not to mention PR focused) is probably a good thing.

Right?? Lone gone are the days of responsible journalism and accuracy, now it’s about breaking news first, accuracy be damned (coughCorlesscough). Not that a blind squirrel doesn’t find a nut occasionally. I should have checked the BBC, they still seem to know how to report.

Business does pretty well too.
Business is what I should have gone into... My father owns a touring children's theatre production company that tours the southeast. I already knew everything I needed to know about theatre and tech, but what I am lacking now is the business and financial skills, which my 72 year old father is having to teach me now. I just needed the expensive piece of paper so that teachers and principals could see that I'm "qualified," even though I grew up in the business my entire life. It was worth it, in that sense, at least.

I’m a science professor and, in general, agree. Unless you are in a program that directly leads to a job, you’re wasting your money.
Absolutely. I would only recommend people going to college if they actually NEED a degree for the field they're going into. Otherwise, you don't need to spend $30,00-$90,000 for a degree in fields that don't need it. There's WAAAY more free options available online to learn EVERYthing you'd need to know in college. Nowadays, college just makes you pay to do all the research you could do yourself for free... It's quite a rip off. We have unlimited access to videos, books, articles, lessons, teachings, ect. So, the next time someone asks me "where should I go to school for digital art?" I'm going to say "don't waste your money."

16 weeks from today? What date would that puts us? I didn't watch last night but my mom said that Biden said we could have a small group over for a July 4th cookout . So, might all of Orlando have a July 4th? Or will it just be SWO like last year?

If Biden's plan works, when should we expect "Return Announcements"?
