The World's Most Magical Celebration - Walt Disney World's 50th anniversary

I have a feeling that if the surprise is anything short of Dreamfinder and Figment themselves walking out on stage and saying that a new Journey into Imagination is on it's way, lots of people are gonna be wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy disappointed by whatever this surprise is.
That wouldn't be in MK on 10/1......

Heard an insider paint a grim timeline about the return of FoF and Fantasmic - probably not until spring or summer for both.

Hopefully it's fluid.

The IATSE strike certainly may not help things.

Well, guess we know the surprise isn’t parade related then. I agree keeping rehearsals a secret seems impossible. Ugh and here Steve quoted this about a light parade:

How cruel of him to let us think theres even hope for that 🤣 JK.
I haven't seen anything about a IATSE strike..........

Something's not stopping MK from bringing back MOUACT. Can't MK use that Cast for FOF? Seems like MK has enough people for Cal. as well. Hopefully the 50th Cal. has enough people. What other Cal. are staying?

If some Problems are with Casting. I'm guessing the Surprises are just Let The Magic Begin and maybe OUAT back after Enchantment? More effects in OUAT would be a welcomed Surprise!

Maybe they'll bring out some of the project exo characters they've been hyping in the news. Or maybe free-walking Groot will make an appearance?

For those going, are you planning to go RD to close? We usually take a break but I don’t want to miss a surprise! Disney is known for “surprise and delight”…well, they used to be. A girl can dream!

I probably won't be getting much sleep the night before, so this is one dragon who plans on being there from open to close.
Even if close is 2am.

I plan on arriving ridiculously early ( on one of the first buses from Resort to the Park ) and stay the entire time.
The plan right now is to get in early and collect whatever possible 'giveaways' might be on hand, and then get in line to pick up a few choice merchandise items I am aware of.
Unless the line is insanely long.....or 'virtual queue' is implemented ( this has been hinted at officially by Disney recently ).
If it's either of those, I may not bother and just attempt later in the day.
The rest of the day I will be in observation and documentation mode.
Might actually get to expereince some Attractions...but it won't be the priority for me that day.
I'm going for the atmosphere, and to savor the moment of being there on that 'day' with many long term Park fans and 'Disney Legends'.
It's going to be just one big party....and despite the huge crowds that will likely be there it will indeed be a special expereince.

Around 9am I am debating going over to the Polynesian for breakfast as I have held onto my dining reservation at Kona for a while now that is for 9:45am.
Now, depending on any forthcoming info I may be privy to about possible 'surprises' or events taking place that morning, I may have to cancel that meal.
I am holding onto it until the last possible minute though....but if I have to, I will cancel and just consume the snacks I plan on bringing with me for such situations.

I don't want to miss what I am hoping may take place....in the morning.
I keep having this feeling that something is going to happen at 10am....not sure why
kind hoping I can get into the Park early, pick up a few things in the shop(s) I may be interested in, and then head out to have my breakfast at Kona.
I have a hunch however that it may be best if I just skip the breakfast reservations and cancel....

Need a little more insight before finalizing my day plan.
But mark my words - the early bird will 'get the worm'.
;)

I don’t get off work until 430. I can be at the park by 5. I know people have said that if you have a park reservation that you’ll get in. But I noticed on the fine print of the park reservations it now says
“A Disney Park Pass does not guarantee park entry or access to any experience, attraction, or dining location” the concern is does not guarantee park entry….

Since resort guests get into MK first before regular guests on the 1st. That means they also will be able to get in line first for the merch right?

Updated Fantasmic in 2022, would explain why no rehearsals or active work on the area yet? Idk guess we will see next week
Actually work is actively taking place, and has ramped greatly up in recent months. Here’s two recent write ups I did:

Aug 22
Been a while since my last one, but here’s a new update on the current F! situation/amphitheater!!

A quick rundown:
  • (old) Front row bleachers still removed
  • (old) Entire lighting system still gone. This is rumored for a (welcomed) upgrade.
  • The third barge has finally returned!
  • Couple of green boom lifts backstage and in moat.
  • Track has been removed to where excavation nearby is being done.
  • The steamboat is being taken apart!
Detailed commentary:

From this aerial view, we can see (blue circle) that the third barge has finally returned from refurbishment. It has been missing since December-ish 2020.

Track (red arrow above) has been removed on the first turn of the steamboat’s track. This is probably connected to the excavation and construction happening on the perimeter of the amphitheater:

This is what this area looked like before, nothing but trees and grass:

It’s hard to tell what exactly is happening here. I believe recent permits indicated something like this would be happening. On closer inspection, seems like there are pipes underground — could be related to the gas for the moat fire and/or water to fill the moat.

Moving on, steamboat Willy is being taken apart! From this aerial, we can see the floor and flooring completely stripped to its barebones. The pyro equipment and lighting on the steamboat has also been removed.

Now with even more work being done on the amphitheater then ever before, Fantasmic! won’t be coming back anytime soon, at least for this year. Hopefully all these tech upgrades will be well worth it in the end!

Another update on the current F! situation/amphitheater!!

A quick rundown:
  • (old) Front row bleachers still removed for access
  • (old) Entire lighting system on overhead rigs still gone. This is rumored for an upgrade.
  • Scaffolding now present around the mountain/stage.
  • Track also has been removed underneath to where the steamboat is.
  • Steamboat continually being take apart and lifted above ground.
  • More pipes for water features removed.
Detailed commentary:

From this aerial, we can see that scaffolding (blue arrow) has been placed around the mountain. This could mean that the mountain is getting a repaint and repair work done to it. Could also mean new elements could be placed on it. For example, the climbing mounts for John Smith could be removed/replaced if F! is indeed revamping its story.

Also, considering all 3 lasers were not working during F!’s last few shows in March 2020, hopefully work is being done on said lasers.

More track (red arrow) has been removed near and underneath the steamboat. The steamboat is also lifted off the ground by pillars of some sort (orange arrows). Work is most likely being done underneath the boat which guides itself along the moat track. New track also seems to be staged nearby. The steamboat still has its floors and walls removed, leaving the barebones of the ship in full view.

Now looking at the excavations/work backstage, more water pipes have been removed.
For reference, I’ll be referring to them as #1-6. The 3 big ones are #1-3 and 3 smaller ones are #4-6. @kthomas105 alluded that the bigger ones are for the 3 water screens and smaller ones for the 3 set of fountains.
View attachment 586293

Couple weeks ago, we saw pipes #4-6 removed which lend to the rumor that the fountains are being upgraded.

Now today, we now see main pipes #1-3 removed. Whether these pipes really feed into the water screens remains a question, it’s not question that all 6 pipes are being replaced.

We can also see the excavation nearby, which shows the dug up pipes.

It’s really exciting to see all this work being done on the amphitheater. This is unprecedented work being done here since it opened many decades ago (I think). Whatever the outcome is, I’m really hyped for it. Hopefully Mickey can hang in there just a little bit more!!
