The wheelies of death!!!

I hate them. I was in line over in Test Track and the kid was using the railings to heel themselves up to the front. What happens when you miss the rail and you go flying backwards in the line.

Another thing is that the company that came up with this says that they are not shoes, they are sports shoes that have wheels inside of them. And if they remove the sticker on the bottom of the shoe and the child gets hert then they can not sew the company that made them. I would love to see someone get hert and sew Disney and see their reaction of them not geting anything from it.

Now let's talk about electric wheelchairs and the mobility carts. Those are the things which should be speed limitted or banned. I've been hit by each on many occasions due to negligence. I witnessed an attempted hit and run on the Adventureland bridge where a woman was run down and her husband chased down the cart driver while his wife bled profusely.
As one who uses a PWC on a regular basis I find this comment very bigotted. Why should my means of mobility be banned or limited. I work fulltime and deserve to enjoy my vacation just as anyone else and if it means using a PWC so I am not in pain too bad. I'm still going to visit Disney.

Wow, you are trying to equate something that is medically necessary to something that is a fad. Give me a break.
Amen to that.

BTW, DID YOU NOT SEE THE BIG EMV COMING AT YOU -- TRY MOVING OUT OF THE WAY. Yes they are hard to drive, and it does happen to be elderly people that don't even qualify for a drivers license that use them. But still. How many times to you have to be hit before you step back and watch for them?
This is common sense. I even watch out for them and I am using a PWC. Some are just bad drivers. It takes time to learn to drive an ECV properly and safely. It also takes people that walk being aware of their surroundings and not short stopping and cutting closely in front of these mobility devices. Use good sense people. None of us are trying to run you over.

To the one person that mentioned that the electric carts are a medical need and not a fad, agreed! Lots of guests at Disney parks across the world need them, however we all know and have seen many who do not. This is not the place for THAT discussion. However I have seen MANY MANY MANY inconsiderate folks running around with those electric wheelchairs, strollers, or anything on wheels. I have seen quests use strollers as weapons or plows to get through crowds in WDW or even Great Adventure.
How do you determine who doesn't need an ECV or PWC? With HIPPA you cannot ask a person about their diagnosis or reason for use. Doctor's note can't be read. And what about those who own their own equipment like myself. Granted some people are rude. They would be rude on or off an ECV or PWC.

Btw people who use ECVs and PWCs do not view them as a vehicle. We view them as our feet. They get us where we need to go when I feet, knees and hips just won't do it. If we had a choice we would be walking just like you. It is no fun looking at people's rear ends all the time and being blocked at parades and fireworks shows as well as streetmosphere performances. And btw most of the handicapped places for the parades are in the sun (no shade) so we roast.
Also remember some ECV and PWC users may have a hearing loss as well so they aren't aware of you as you come up from behind them. They are unaware until you cut in front of them. Please don't crowd them. Give them a foot on each side and 3-5 feet in front if cutting in front of them. It is for your safety as well as ours.

I can't stand the heelez either but in all fairness I can't recall any signage that prohibits them. Maybe some has been added since my last trip in mid October but I know the ban has been in place before that rip. Granted there are signs that prohibit bikes etc but as a general rule people will try to find any loophole they can. I am sure the phrase "They are not skates they are Heelez." have been heard by many a cast member.

There are also no signs prohibiting people from jumping off the Tomorrowland bridge, but one would hope common sense would make that unnecessary.

I think that's the problem with these roller skates. That's what they are. A wheeled device you attach or otherwise fashion from your shoes = rollerskate to anyone with common sense.

It's easy to pick out the rotten parents from the good ones - when you see a little brat going up and down the meat counter at the grocery store, in shorts and a tank top, you know how much sense the parent has.

They are just ridiculous, plain and simple. They should not be allowed anywhere one is not able to roller skate. The only difference between them is that a real roller skate gives you more control than those silly shoes.

Signage or not, they are not allowed at WDW, and CM's need to enforce it. As more guests complain, though, I'm sure signs will go up - and security will have to check for them at the gate. A shame that people are so stupid it needs to be done, but then again, Stupid Guests are nothing new.

however I hardly equate the wheelie shoes with in-line skates, roller skates or skateboards. For one the speed and distance are limitted and the correct position has to be held rather precisely. Second despite my concerns in airports I have yet to see one kid lose control or bump into anyone - I'm sure it happens but not as often as I expected. Third their's no projectile to pop out and slam into someone like a skateboard.

Of course logic has nothing to do with it. Disneyland banned camera tri-pods. How many people have you seen hurt by one of those?

Probably a good thing to make it more publicly known they are not welcomed but I wouldn't lose sleep over the disrespectful ones who wear them anyway. We'll just all walk linked hand in hand and dare them to make it through :)

I agree. But dont forget the parents who dont pay attention to what the strollers are actully hitting. But you just have to avoid them, they arent worth the thought.

There are signs in the Tunnel telling CMs that anything with skates (skates, wheelys, ect) are allowed in the park, and CMs have to tell whoever to stop. I almost feel like getting copies of it and posting it in the parks.

Are people that lazy that they can't phyically walk themselve and have to have "skates" to move their fat @ss for them? I hate these "wheelies." I think they should be banned in many places (mall, school, etc.) Most of the time the kid isn't even paying attention all together and hits or almost hits me and the parent doesn't do a damn thing about it. Whoever invented these shoes from hell I would love to personally punch the guy in the face.

Ive never had anyone run into me with them wheelies or whatever their called. But I have had some people run into me with a stroller or wheelchair, and usually I fight back. But I think the wheelies do need to be taken into consideration when it involves WDW, they are annoying.

Those things are SOOOOOOOOOOOO annoying! There's a lot of kids at my hool that have them, and they're always running into me, and I get REALLY mad! I'm like "TAKE THOSE STUPID SHOES OFF!". LOL

I agree that Heelys in the parks (or any crowded place) is not a good idea. There's too much risk of an accident.

However, on the sidewalk at home or on an empty tennis court? Those shoes are way cool and clearly a lot of fun. I wish they had existed when I was a kid.

Being a CM, I would rather a parent get mad at me for asking their children politely to remove the wheels from the shoes than for them to slip and hurt themselves and/or someone else. I just tell them it is for their own personal safety and if they don't agree with it, to stop by Guest Relations. There is also a rule on the Disney-rented ECV's that only one individual over the age of 18 is permitted on them at any time. It is in the contract they sign when they rent them. I have pulled the key out of the guest ECV's and told them that they will get their key back when they remove the extra person. They don't understand that it is for their own personal safety, which I guess is something most guests don't care about.

That's exactly what I tell them "It's for their own safety" and all they can do is scoff at me or laugh. *sighs* Same thing goes for that rule about having one child on the ECV. For one, you signed the contract saying it's only one person.....two, that means they're not reading the contract and three, if a security catches them, they might not get their deposit back.

Today it rained like crazy and guess what? Yup, the skidding fools once again. It's like they all come out!! Seriously, if it wasn't a parent, it was their kids or it's get this, the parents skidding and then the kids would do it.
They get a good head start and skid their hearts away.....while they pass the nice huge yellow signs that say "SLIPPERY"

I yelled so much tonight it wasn't even funny. Actually a few did fall. I had to shake my head and smile at that and the father actually told me. "I guess we should stop acting like this huh?" I was like...ummm yes sir. Thank You.

:brick:

:D I love you so much thank you. You took the words out of my mouth....oh what the heck I'll say it again...

COMMON FREAKING SENSE....SIGNS OR NOT!! I don't care if the wheelies come with safety bumpers.....helmets, knee pads.....They're not allowed.
Signs sadly wouldn't help....like I've said countless times before. Everytime I'm at character connections exit, people want to enter through there and once again, I get yelled at "WHAT'S THE BIG DEAL?"

Sir....IT'S AN EXIT...NOT AN ENTRANCE. lol!!

And while doing extra magic hours, having a huge nice sign in front of us and me having about 100 wristbands in hand....people still come over to ask us if this is where they wristbands. :lookaroun

SafeD not begin with Guest. =D

What does wearing shorts and a tank top have to do with being a rotten parent? How does it make for bad parenting? Maybe it's too early in the morning for me and I'm missing something. Please enlighten me:)

Did everyone on this board forget what it's like to be a kid? If they were available when we were kids, I guarantee that 90% of us would have had them. I get pushed, shoved, and knocked into constantly at WDW by a lot more adults than children. Maybe we should ban adults with legs?
