Rumor The Wave to become an 'Incredibles Steakhouse'

I'm going to cautiously go with the poster that suggested that it's actually going to be "an incredible steakhouse" and not "An Incredibles Steakhouse"

So basically Concourse Steakhouse, but not on the concourse.

Oh Please No!
The Wave is one of my favorite Restaurants and Lounges on property because of its innovative menu, sustainability concept and its not an overwhelmingly themed space. I think Chef Mickey's is enough Character Dining for the Contemporary why not spread the love elsewhere?
Do a Bambi breakfast at WL, a Pocahontas breakfast at the future Reflections Resort or a Princess and the Frog Character Meal at POFQ.
Oh and while I am complaining move the Beauty and the Beast bar/Lounge to the Riviera Resort and the Little Mermaid to her own breakfast at CBR instead of in an Italian restaurant on the Boardwalk which would be better suited to another character. Basically put these themed meals in places where the cuisine and theme fits the characters and the places they are from.
I see how the Incredibles fits the Contemporary's modern theme but don't take away the chill relaxing space of The Wave just to sell Frozone merch! If its so important to have all these new Character Meals then may I suggest moving Chef Mickey's to Disney Springs or over to The Boardwalk (take over Atlantic Dance Hall) and do a Incredibles meal in its place.

If they wanted a full-service restaurant that performs better, they should move it back up into the Concourse and move the quick-service back downstairs.

Or at least move Contempo Cafe to the other side of the Concourse so its not such a crowded mess on one side.
As for The Waves position in the resort, I think they placed it in the old CS for the Conventioneers who could step away from the overcrowded Grand Canyon Concourse, get a drink and lunch in a nice spot and not kill the magic for the vacationers above.

Awesome. What year(s) was that?

1994-2008. It was very good but it was tough to have a high-end steakhouse next to Chef Mickey's, particularly when you have a hotel that has a massive convention business. The Wave was created to fill the niche of a standard "hotel restaurant" that convention guests could have a business-type meal in without craziness or reservations months in advance. The former Food & Fun Center, which was located where The Wave now is, was closed and the arcade/quick service locations moved upstairs.

On a related note I went to a DVC event at the Wave recently and had the Filet mignon which was outstanding. The red wine sauce was amazing as was all of the dinner. A farily simple cesar salad to start and a chocolate flight mini dessert tray with three different choices was served. Very very good. I was impressed. Marie

Thanks! That explains it, right in the Disney gap, between going as a child and going with my own child. I am with the poster who wants a return of Fiesta Fun Center, although I seem to remember that being one level down.

With Chef Mickey's upstairs, I started to wonder if this might be done in a style similar to Sebastian's Bistro at Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort. Perhaps it will be themed to The Incredibles in signage, menus, and some sparse artwork.

You want to have the quick service restaurant upstairs, near the access point for the Monorail. That way it is a quick stop for people in the morning before heading out to the parks, and as an easy draw to people coming back on the monorail, and walking right into the quick service to grab something before heading back to their rooms. A sit down restaurant is going to be more reservation driven, so it doesn't need to be in a high volume/traffic area to draw customers.

That's not the case at the Poly though.

Which I have always felt should have been changed. Kona Cafe/Island should be downstairs connecting to Tiki Terrace and Capt. Jacks should be upstairs for easier access to guests using the monorail, there are QS options near the pools so why keep them all on ground level? Also why not reopen Tangaroa Terrace so that the Great Ceremonial House doesn't feel so crowded in the main lobby.

The Food and Fun Center was the new name for the Fiesta Fun Center in the 90s. You are right, it was around the corner from the lobby on the ground floor. I also think there were some steps separating the arcade from the quick food serve, but not a full staircase.

The wave is underrated, the bar was kinda fun and more crowded than I thought it would be. It stays open a little later than California and outer rim. Don't get me wrong I would still rather have the fiesta fun center :)

These are supposed to be luxurious, immersive properties. You don't put your fast food joint front and center. Form and function should be balanced. Contempo Café drives me nuts because having that smack dab in the middle of your grand atrium just reeks of economy lodging.

I hate where Contempo Cafe is placed though I also can't stand the way Chef Mickey's looks either! The whole Grand Canyon Concourse looks like a Mall food court circa the 90's. As for moving Capt Jacks, there's a way to do a CS without making it look like a fast food joint. Its very easy to theme one to be sophisticated and functional without ruining the all over flow of the surrounding area. Personally I don't feel Kona Cafes dining area looks all that luxe (kinda looks like a California Pizza Kitchen) so putting a CS option in it place and giving it a grander more upscale look downstairs wouldn't affect the upstairs atrium much.
