So you're disenchanted about any dystopia conflicting with your utopian purity ? Perhaps that's the missing link to capture a lot of today's audience... a healthy distain for idealized (of whatever persuasion) societies. Missing "the grit" and inherent contradictions present in real life.
It is not even playfully dystopian. It is supposed to be the blandest version of Anywhereville, U.S.A. without any affectation of charm; the fact that they don't even bother to clarify which Springfield it is remains a running joke throughout the series. Again, if it's an attraction tucked elsewhere like in classic Disney land design, fine. If it is supposed to support an entire land, I expect it to be an imaginative place I actually want to visit. That doesn't mean utopian; it just means interesting and unique in a way that I can't get from going to my local strip mall.

…I was hoping the mgm lands would do that as well…

Your disdain for the Simpsons rivals my disdain for Z******a. 😁
I don't actually dislike the Simpsons. I just don't think it makes sense as a land, nor do I think it meshes that well with other IP in the parks due to its visual style. By contrast, I actually do dislike Zootopia as an IP, and I'm not a fan of how it was implemented in Shanghai either. Still, I can at least see how a biome-infused city is somewhat interesting even if it's infested with furries. 🫤

They did a phenomenal job bungling a successful IP like Star Wars in the parks.

I can’t wait to see the phenomenal job they’re going to do bungling a tired over the hill IP.
It’ll be an immersive experience where you act out your The Simpsons story in a place setting and location heretofore never mentioned in the rich history constituting decades of TV shows, films, and video games.

Maybe turn Galactic Starcruiser into a Simpson's theme hotel experience? ;)

Whether or not you like what was actually built, "alien planet" and "life-sized toys" are at least appealing conceptually, unlike convenience store, bar, and nuclear power plant.
Now it all becomes clear why Disney had language in the RCID agreement allowing them to build a nuke plant......

Master long range planning that should be taught in universities.....
