The truth about Jersey week

It was my ritual that I visited Disney every Teachers convention while I was in school. In all honesty as long as you don’t ever stay until Super Soap Weekend things aren’t really that bad.

Exit 36 - Minutes away from the city thats "Always Turned On"

I was down there then. We booked our trip before I realized that was the Jersey Week weekend. When we got to the parks, we saw crowds, but nothing too unmanageable. It had been at that level in Mid May... we just needed fastpasses for Soarin', Everst, etc.

We stayed through the week... by Monday, the parks were DEAD. Walk on Everest the two other days I went. It was amazing. I am probably going to go down that week again, especially if I wind up going to law school in Florida next year...

Well... if you keep coming back... us Jersey people will just have to adopt you and assign you an exit!!!!

Law school and Disney, huh???? I dated a law student once who was "too serious" for Disney... that's why I dropped him...

Haha... yeah... No, I am not going to be too serious for it. Maybe a bit too stressed to go during the school year, but I will find time!

How was the surfing? Hope that made up for the not so great convention. So have you made plans for another trip. We already have our airfare down, we need to make resort ressie's, and arrange our way back. All for April, during the flower and garden festival, alot of fun, you may want to try that one.

The surf was great all weekend long! Yes, I ahve been there for Flower and Garden back in 2005 and it was really nice, and not crowded at all! Next trips are scheduled for early January and mid March.

All these NJ teachers, I love it! I'm exit 82 but teach at 58!!

We should start a New Jersey Teacher thread since there seems to be so many of us on these boards! I'm representing exit 74!

We used to go every NJEA convention week, but that was back when we used to get a whole week off, not just a dinky day or two.

AND....what's wrong with AC? Good food, good bars, good entertainment, shopping, beaches, and then there's the casinos too! What more could you want?
What more could want? How about a more family friendly atmosphere. Than maybe it will not have so much crime.

Yep, Those were Jersey people all right!

Having been born in and grown up in NJ, gotten out as soon as I could, but also having lived throughout every region of the US, I think all people are pushy and rude. Northeast people are proud of it and wear it like a badge, Midwesterns repress it, southerners make up for it with myths of "hospitality", westerners don't care that they are, and Californians don't have time to listen to you gripe about it. :animwink:
I'm certainly not one to defend NJ, but besides the "Yo, Ma, buy me some popcorn - NOW!" one might hear at the parks that week, I don't think it's any more pushy and rude than any other time.

Before anyone takes offense, this is purely a joke. Except the part that is true. :p

And Exit 163.... Rt 17 and all!!! I used to have to get off there to go to Mahwah....

The only thing I don't miss about Jersey is the traffic at Rts. 4 & 17....

And the hard rolls...

and a good deli...

& B&W bakery in Hackensack.... (can you say crumb cake???) :slurp:

Luckily I have enough family there still that I get to visit just for the crumb cake!!!

Grew up in Somerville, and I work in Pennington and Lawrenceville (Mercer Co) when I'm not workin for the mouse.

The meadowlands is where I go to watch the GIANTS and put money on the ponies. On weekends I bar hop in New Brunswick with friends and get fat sandwhiches from the grease trucks at 2 am. Disney's too hot in July - that's my prime 'down the shore' time. I rent in Lavalette and go to Seaside and point pleasant at night. Give me the seaside heights boardwalk over disney's anyday. Disney is great, but they're wayy too high class to successfully emulate the boardwalk I grew up with. I have every single issue of weird NJ.

JERSEY PRIDE ALL THE WAY!!

Elizabeth smells like poo.

Yeah... I think the Boardwalk was supposed to be a nostalgic version... I go to the mountains myself after spending summers with my grandparents at Sandy Hook....

Now if Disney had added a few horseshoe crabs to the beaches....

I think we are very underestimated...just like people think that Jersey looks nothing different than the pictures that they see in the opening credits of the Sopranos.... (nice avatar...)

Hey... I went to school with JG.... he's Jersey too....

You forgot the butter on that hard roll!

Ooh! What school at 58? I have applied to schools at 58, 67, and 74 within the last few weeks. I would have had a job sooner if my darn college hadn't screwed up my teacher certification packet!

This whole thread reminds me of something that happened last summer in the AK. My friend and I were at Rafiki's Planet Watch, and Push the talking trashcan was around, so I started to record him. He came up to me and started asking if I was taking a still picture or moving picture, then he asked where we were from. We answered "New Jersey" and he goes "what exit?" The whole crowd started cracking up....it was great!

Truth hurts

As a native New Jersian, (who just recently moved to Savannah) I find your remark quite rude and unnecessary.

You know what's rude? Telling someone they are rude for telling the truth. If you don't like the reputation that your fellow New Jersians have earned for all New Jersians (nice and jerks included), then you should be chiding the obnoxious New Jersians not a poster on these boards that states a fact.

I've been dealing with people who have preconceived notions about people from New Orleans for years, e.g., we all speak with cajun accents, we all go to school barefooted, (and now with the media attention of Katrina) we're all criminals, all ignorant, etc. etc. Are people that think those things rude? No, they are not. They are only going on what they know (or think they know). Is it annoying? Sure, especially when you speak to someone and address their misconceptions, but they won't listen and refuse to see that their misconceptions are, just that, MISconceptions.

That notwithstanding, if you have a problem with the fact that people perceive residents of your (former) state as rude. You have two choices: 1) correct their misconception by being nice and kind and PATIENT or 2) confirm their beliefs by making a post like the one you did make.

Johnny

P.S. I have actually had the pleasure of visiting New Jersey. I went to a gathering of students from several Salesian high schools (the Salesians are a Roman Catholic religious order) in the eastern U.S. We stayed at Don Bosco Tech in Patterson, New Jersey. Everyone we met was great. Unfortunately, a few truly obnoxious people (from New Jersey and anywhere else) do spoil it for the rest of the good people.

I Miss Nj!!!

I'm from NJ, and yes, we used to visit Disney in November.

I was born in North Arlington, moved to realllll southwest NJ, Greenwich. Then moved to Ocean Township, then to Howell. I miss the shoreeeee terribly!

I now live in Illinois, about 30 mins north of Chicago, what a DIFFERENT world!

Jersey pride!!!

Oh, and this is in test track, and it makes me happy.
