The Super Mario Bros. Movie not doing that great...

Lucas and Encanto were good movies. I did not run to the theater to see them. We have not been to the movies since sometime in 2019.

We watch everything at home on streaming. I can't think of ANY movie I would go to see rather than watch it at home (even Top Gun!).

Are there enough movie goers that feel this way to make today's "Box Office" numbers invalid?
Luca was a Disney+ original not in theaters.

Saw it last night and it was great for what it was. Very nostalgic and fun. Not a blockbuster, but a fun movie about everyone's favorite video game plumber, lol. It looks like there will be a second one too.

Not every movie needs to be a blockbuster. Look how Disney's movie timeline has continued with just "ok" type of movies that while enjoyable and entertaining were not bombastic but provided a brief escape. Lots of the traditional studios are now stuck in the boom or bust cycle where they gamble hundreds of millions of dollars on each movie while taking solid story frameworks and adding in one or more virtue-signaling subplots that add little or nothing to its narrative.

Puss 'n Boots - Great Movie!
It sure is. I own it now. I wasn't going to see the movie at all, because the first Puss film wasn't that good, AND the new one featured that weird-looking spastic dog. But wow, what a pleasant surprise! Powerful script, great emotion, wonderful characters (even the dog!) and That Wolf... 😍 Today's Disney could not make a film like PiB2. The talent is either not there, or it's being crippled by the Agendateers 🤪. I hope PiB2 wins Best Animated Feature at the Oscars. Heck, I hope it's nominated for Best Picture. It's just that good.

Agreed. To me, the dog in PiB2 is the hero.

It was a 2022 film and was nominated for Best Animated Film at the Oscars but lost to Pinocchio (not the crappy Disney Pinocchio, but the other one).

I think Super Mario Bros. will be nominated for best animated movie. It is the one that will fill the Dreamworks/Illunimation spot. Disney will fill their two spots with Wish and Elemental. I don't know what Netflix will put in their spot. The indie spot will have Marcel the Shell 2 - Shell on the Go.

I don’t think anyone wants more Cicken Little and if we’re saying that is the best Disney can do in that space, maybe they don’t deserve to turn a profit, anymore.

Obviously, some of the comparison isn’t fair due to the pandemic but there has to be someplace between Chicken Little and Soul.

Again, not saying they shouldn’t make movies like Soul.

I liked Soul.

My son thought it was boring.

He’s watched Tangled at least a dozen times.

I think they should make both… and a good story with good cg animation doesn’t need to always cost a fortune, these days, I don’t think.
Tangled is a top 5 Disney animated move of all time

But no movies should suck and insult the audience not directed by Mel brooks

Except fast and the furious…it’s required there

Well it was already nominated and lost to the deserving Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio this year
