The Super Mario Bros. Movie not doing that great...

Early reviews for G3 have been enthusiastically positive.

Good sign for that one.

Unfortunate sign for Disney and Marvel, of course, since this is the last outing for these characters in this form and for the director credited for the magic of these movies.

Still, I'm excited for this one.

Sounds like it isn't going to be a repeat of AM3.
There is nothing preventing Gunn from working with Marvel again in the future just because he is now head of DC. He can work on other projects outside of DC including for Marvel. Also his current contract for DC is only 4 years. And any potential new Marvel project he'd work on would be in 5-7 years anyways. So yeah don't count out him coming back at some point in the future, especially if GotG3 is successful.

Also there is nothing preventing a Guardians team from continuing in the future it just won't be all the same characters, just like in the comics. There is suppose to be an end credits scene that hints at this.

Well yeah, it's possible he could choose to step down as the head of DC and come back to Marvel as a director but seeing as how he's now basically DCs Keven Feige that seems... Optimistic for Marvel fans, don't you think?.. Especially since he's always been a little edgy for the mouse.

So GOTG with a different director/script writer and different characters?

Considering, they couldn't even stick the third installment of Ant Man with the same characters and director, I'm not handing blind faith back to Disney/Marvel in its current state.

Everything that made GOTG what it was is gone after this movie.

I'm sure something else will follow it.

Not sure I'll care about it, though.

Both Gunn and Feige have left open the possibility of Gunn coming back to Marvel for a project while even still being head of DC. While slim that it'll happen its not out of the realm of possibilities especially if GotG3 does well at the BO.

Ant-Man 3 was written by a different writer. In fact all three have had different writers. Its why they all have felt different from each other. So just having the same director doesn't help if the writing is a different tone than the previous installments, director can only do so much.

And yes they can have a different team, just like the comics, with a different writer/director to tell different stories.

Dude - you don't seem to be getting my point here.

I know they can.

They own it - they can do whatever they want, just like Disney did with Star Wars movies.

My point was, just because they can doesn't mean I'm going to have any interest at all in any of it.

Different characters, someone else either trying to imitate the auteur director who made the first three or going in a totally different direction.

Basically, a reboot.

I can't speak for general audiences but the name alone isn't going to be getting my butt into a seat and looking at SheHulk, it doesn't seem like people saying "that's perfectly in line with the comic" to explain/justify the cop-out ending for that season/show being enough to satisfy their cinematic universe fans which are the ones they're counting on for box office dollars so.

They managed to screw up Ant Man 3. That should have been an easy one. That among most of what's come out since End Game has given me no reason to trust the brand anymore - if you do, more power to you but the box office numbers and critic reviews seem to suggest I'm not alone.🤷‍♂️

Anyway, I'm happy that it sounds like they didn't screw up GOTG3 but nothing about THAT suggests to me that things are about to pick up elsewhere. Would be nice if it did but I don't see how anyone could draw that it's the start of a positive trend since everything about it ends with this one.

Effectively saying "nothing's impossible" is not what I'd call an assuring response.

Dude I get your point, I'm aware you won't care about a new team, you've said so many times now.

You quoted one of my posts, so I'm just trying to have a discussion. 🤷‍♂️

but you keep coming back and responding to what I'm saying with stuff that seems like you're not hearing me.

I only included your post basically responding to the discussion where there was talk about GOTG3 and I was mostly pointing out that we had something positive to look forward to.

I think it's pretty fair to point out that it doesn't give a lot of hope for anything after that movie as far as the MCU goes, though since we know all the relationships that made that one are ending... which kinda sucks, IMHO.

Yes the feedback so far about the GotG3 has been positive, sorry I didn't acknowledge that previously.

If that is your opinion about the future of these characters and the MCU, I acknowledge your opinion. Mine however is different.

Also, who knows how long he will stick as head of the DC films. That's been a position that has had pretty rapid turnover. So far under his watch Black Adam and Shazam 2 have done poorly - though of course he really wasn't really involved in them - and I personally don't have very high hopes for The Flash. I'm sure they will give him at least until Superman Legacy to put his stamp on the DC films, but if they don't produce over time the studio will look for a fall guy....

All that turnover has been because DC has been chasing Marvel and WB has been unhappy with the results.

I'd imagine if Gunn improves things, he'll stick and if he doesn't, they'll continue to look for their rain maker.

Early screenings for the Flash have been incredibly positive (shockingly).

From what I can tell, Superman is going to be the first one he's really been in control of.

I feel like what Disney will learn most from Mario is that animated films based on pre-existing IPs from elsewhere make big bucks. Predicting that we'll see a Star Wars or Marvel (with already well known characters) theatrical movie announced within the next five years made by WDAS or Pixar.
