Spirited President's Day Musings:

Oops, in my quickee post earlier today I forgot to mention that DL actually has FOUR E-Tix down this holiday weekend. The subs are already history in my mind so I somehow excluded them. ... But seriously, can you imagine if MK had that many attractions closed? That point slams home the superiority of Walt's Park in multiple ways.

Four etickets down is not a good thing if you are visiting a theme park, just saying.....

He's just messing around. No one in their right mind can think Avatar will hang with HP 2.0. I think Avatar could be great, but it will not be the same level as Potter. Disney simply won't put the money into it like Comcast did with HP 2.0.

I believe Potter 2.0 will be big but not nearly as big as Potter 1.0 was. The potter craze is not what it used to be, and it is a little been there, done that with Potter.

I'm not joking. This is coming from a die hard Potter fan. Avatar's make or break will be the main attraction. I think I'm just excited on what's coming to DAK overall. I'm sure the theming will be on par with Diagon Alley

No. That isn't true. UNI has another HUGE gun that hasn't come out yet.

The only huge gun I can think of is Lord of the Rings... Hasn't been officially announced they have the theme park rights, only been out there in rumorville... If you are referring to Kong, this too has only been rumored, not officially confirmed by Universal, though we know it is coming...

What other IP could Universal be after, or have of their own, which could be a huge gun/big draw for guests? Fast and Furious? Would they take that state side and put it in the plot of land by MIB? Replace Fear Factor with it? Bond maybe?

I think it will be bigger than 1. 2 major new rides this time and what looks to be an incredibly detailed land will bring people in. Work of this scale is not being done anywhere else right now. We won't have long to wait and see.

The real problem is that there's nothing left as iconic as Hogwarts so any expansion would pale in comparisson. That said, the London will be amazing and they're now going to be reaping the benefits at two parks, instead of one.

And as for the Potter craze being over, I don't think so. Not by a long shot. That franchise will have legs for decades. It isn't going anywhere.

I think the opportune word in discussing any Avatar related topic is "can". Avatar "can" be better than Potter. It "can" be the best theme park land in the history of the theme park industry. Now, will it? It all depends on what they build.
The rumored SW expansion in that respects nearly HAS to be the best land ever built. The fanbase for that is too rabid, to predisposed to failure (and this from a prequil apologist), yet still in love with the property. Anything less than an A+ effort there is going to be dubbed a massive failure.

One ride housed in a building not nearly as iconic as Hogwarts and without Harry himself playing a major role, and a Train ride that you need a two park ticket to experience. I could see The Hogwarts Express creating some bad will among certain theme park guests.

Also if Potter 1.0 is any indication, the walkways, stores, and attractions will be undersized and cramped(as per JK Rowling's request).

Ministry of Magic... Adding in The Great Hall into Hogwarts... And after the Magical Creatures movie comes out, that will open up more areas to explore and build...

My insiders have hinted at a few things for Toon Lagoon. I know a Sony Animation overlay has been discussed and may be the front runner.

I'm still not convinced on LotR. Great IP, but I just don't now how you do it justice in a theme park without spending billions. You'd have to have an enormous amount of land, too.

I can only speak for myself, but I am not remotely a potter fan - I have not seen one single movie. However, I can't wait to see this new land. It looks to be spectacular. I wish Disney were about to open something on this scale in 2014.

Keep repeating to yourself... it's working.

Harry is in the ride, where did you hear he doesn't play a major role? All indications are he does play a major role...

I don't see how ANY theme park version of Avatar could be better than Potter, because Avatar is so weak in context with Potter. Much has already been said here about Avatar's lack of memorable characters, not to mention that it has very little cross-generational appeal. It's just - in my opinion - a lousy franchise to try to build a theme park attraction around. Maybe it'll have a nice night-time show, or something, but that's nothing new to WDW, after all.
