The Spirited Sixth Sense ...

With the new FCC comissioner being a ex-Cable exec the fix is in already and I dont think 'divestiture' is in the cards

The FCC more (and that's saying a heck of a lot) than many agencies consistently has top executives that have been plucked right from the (telecom) businesses that they are supposed to regulate. It's disgusting and you're right, the fix is already in. Now the former head, Michael Powell, is the head of the big cable & telecom group NCTA. So, he went from regulating (ha, that's a joke with him...) to now advocating for the telecom groups that anything goes and that there should be no regulation.

And some wonder why people no matter their political stripes are sickened with bought for and paid for government no matter the party in office....

That's why Netflix is moving ever so quickly to becoming akin to an HBO or Showtime, as a premium pay channel of original content vs. filled with licensing deals for rebroadcasting of network programming and films. They've seen the handwriting on the wall of what the telecom giants were/are going to do and are staying ahead of them. They're betting farm that the FCC will regulate the Internet as a utility, so they wouldn't be in fear of bandwidth throttling or people have ridiculous caps and costs on top of their already ridiculous costs, instead, they've seen that the operators want to control the content and cap costs on the cable channel end.

How do you go around that and still be a premium product? Have licensing deals with anyone outside the behemoths such as Comcast whether it's domestic or international programming and build the platform based on original content...

We'll be watching season two of 'House of Cards' tonight, which is some darn good original content.

"Explode" would be impressive for Cap given his movie didn't even make as much money as the first Thor. I expect a big opening day weekend (due to the "post-Avengers" bump and good previews), but not a strong hold or outstanding foreign numbers.

Agreed it will be unexpected. I just think Cap (more Chris Evans I guess) got the biggest bump out of Avengers, and the previews look incredible.

Well, Thor 2 got a very large bump compared to the first movie; I suspect that was almost entirely due to greater familiarity with the character and storylines due to The Avengers. I think we'll see the same with Captain America 2.

I think Guardians of the Galaxy will be a very interesting test about the brand appeal and marketing with Marvel. However, having the movies connected and serialized will help it significantly in my opinion. I'm very curious as to how the advertising with work with that movie.

When there isn't anything else to be built there it isn't a bad thing. At least there are some jobs still over there as opposed to having nothing.

Agree with your sentiment but Grumman is just another example of states killing the golden goose with excessive regulation and taxation. Let's face it Long Island and Souuthern California is where aviation was born and both states did their damndest to tax and regulate them out of business.

Is that really the best you've got? ... Sorry, another crackpot with the same initials brings a much better game here. You're like Broadway Joe playing out his days in LA ... or flubbing the Super Bowl coin flip for that matter. Time has passed you by. It was fun when it lasted ...or not.

Funny thing is that was the exact thought I had after reading the first couple pages of this thread as you pined away for your idol as only a tried and true fanboy would. Though your loyalty certainly can't be questioned. Timmy had Lassie and Michael has you.

PS - I think you are just jealous of Joe's fur coat.

When'd did they announce that? On the 12th everyone was disappointed that even at the shareholders meeting there still was no date announced? I have heard the July 14th as rumour, but no announcement so far...

Sorry you are right! Don't believe everything you read on the internet (in this case I just saw it on a post on Disney and More and clearly didn't look further into it).

Well, Thor 2 got a very large bump compared to the first movie;

That was almost all overseas. There was an increase in NA, but a minor one (about $25 million, not counting for 2 years inflation). The movie opened big, but Hunger Games 2 didn't help.

If Cap sees a big improvement, it will likely be US based. The first didn't even make $200 million overseas and the "America" aspect may be hard to overcome. Tumblr girls drooling over Evans will help though.

So, in all seriousness. Can someone please post a recap (preferably as its own thread) of the latest news here so we can get the info without the 61 pages of whining?

I was more than happy to cancel my expensive cable and pick up a $8 Netflix account.

No Honey BooBoos, no Duck Dynasty (unrelated, I recently saw about five minutes of that show and have since lost all hope in humanity), no commercials, and no news.

PERFECT.

However, I'm sure my internet company (Comcast) isn't too thrilled about this.
