Disney may be in a world of hurt with the proposed takeover of TWC by Comcast, This would make them the incumbent cable provider in 19 of the 20 major metro markets. We've already seen DTV boot the Weather Channel over pricing,

This effectively would put Comcast into the position of we are paying X for your networks and not a penny more. Being a content only company these days is a bad place to be.

Hey, I loved the brand for decades. Truly.

And WDW deserved that love for decades. Truly.

It really was magical.

But I'm also not blind enough to not see that Iger & co. are dumping all over the "BRAND" in Orlando right now.

And I really get tired of alleged "fans" of WDW write that they don't let the little stuff bother them.

Don't they understand that it was both the big and the little stuff that separated WDW from everyone else, that made WDW truly great?

Gawd, I can't want for a change in the way corporate Disney treats Orlando.

Ah yes, the DISNEY brand. Every other word with Disney followed by one of the following:

™ ®

If anyone has AT&T U-Verse, I'd suggest pulling up the Disney "Parks" channel and watch what they've put together. The video about Epcot is downright hilarious and pathetic all in one. They show the entertainers preparing for the day and looking downright thrilled, while they're treated like dirt in reality, and nothing beats the M&G along with the dining featured.... and barely any attractions.

I'm not so sure. I think now more than ever, content is king considering they just spent $45 billion to try and kill the king.

"Charter has made three offers for Time Warner Cable in the last year, the most recent for $132.50 a share. On Tuesday, Charter turned up the heat by proposing an alternate slate of directors for Time Warner Cable's board in a hostile proxy fight.

Cable maverick John Malone controls 27 percent of Charter. He has said the cable-TV industry must consolidate and enlarge to gain leverage in negotiations with content companies such as the Walt Disney Co. and CBS Corp., and to compete with Netflix."

Here's a "comcastic" quote from Brian Roberts in the same article:

Comcast chief executive Brian Roberts said on Thursday morning in a conference call with analysts that a merger with Comcast and Time Warner Cable will create a "near national platform" for its cable-TV and broadband businesses with exposure in 43 of the nations top 50 TV markets.

The deal will eliminate no competitors in the market, Roberts said, adding that it would be "pro-consumer," "pro-competitive," and "in the public's interest."

That's a lot of pro's. Not quite buying it.

In Philly, we've been dealing with this for close to 20 years now. With Comcast owning the Flyers and up until 2 years ago owning the Sixers (still maintaining broadcasting rights), and just recently giving the Phillies a 25% stake in Comcast Sportsnet, if you live in the Philly market and are a sports fan there really is no other option but to bow down to Comcast.

This is a great article about the Phillies deal and with various links to how the tv landscape is changing.

Anyone want to link up the new mm+ "be our guest" commercial along with the one from 20 years ago to show the stark contrast?
Is that the commercial I just saw saying to come to Disney World and be a part of their "test"? I don't know who is in charge of marketing, but it was horrible. I have no desire to spend thousands to be a part of their test. The commercial actually left me turned off to WDW.

This was a legit WDW commercial aired on the Bravo channel. I'll search around and see if I can find it to post.

They've been playing it on ABC.

As far as recent WDW commercials go, it's far from the worst. It actually makes MM+ look like something worth checking out. However, at the end when they say something about "come as we test it" or something like that, it just loses it.

Might as well come as they test, because that is going to be the time that what you think about it will have the most impact. Later on we will all just have to deal with it or not go. I don't see any option. We don't run Disney, they do. It's their call and always has been. If people stop going they might have to reconsider some of the stuff they are doing, but it will not be MM+. MM+ is a huge internal tool, it may be spun as an advantage to Guests and the deliberate linking of purchases, FP, dining, Room and admission, is what they are hyping as Guest enhancement, but it is, when all is said and done an operations and accounting system. Get used to it. It is here to stay.

Hi Spirit, I just came across a very interesting thread on the WDW General Discussion about the change of WDW visitors and this very insightfull post just stood out. I thought it would touch upon some of the issues that regularly are debated on this thread and previous @WDW1974 threads, so I am quoting it over here:

Thanks for sharing that here; things this insightful are sometimes overlooked, as there are so many things to keep up on here.

I'd wholeheartedly recommend taking the 10-15 minutes out of your day to really read that post and think about it. Wow.

He is. There will be a new MK show by 2016. ... And as a Wishes hater, that is none too soon! (will someone kill those singing moppets?!?!)
The only negative thing about watching fireworks from the Cali Grill "terrace" was that they piped in the awful narration and singing. Couldn't we get a music-only track? Please? If I wish hard enough, golly gee!
