I understood that. What I am saying is that it happens all the time. It is up to the people integrating the systems, which would be Disney IT at the end of the day, to ensure the integration points are correct and consistent.

Correct, The problem is TWDC has no internal integration function it outsources that component as well, What Disney IT is basically a group of senior IT PM's, There is no architecture group herding the cats so to speak which is why historically Disney has had such poor integration of systems.

They may have governance on the USE of data, but there is no architecture group to ensure all systems are compatible with each other, And so things like 'Rapid-fill' are spawned which has no integration into the MB+ system. The AP issues are another facet of that.

Wow. I mean, I find that hard to believe (not necessarily saying I don't believe it, since I have 0 inside connections, just that it's hard to believe). It seems that the architecture group would be leading the development of this entire project, and if one was not already existing, it would be created at the outset of a project of this size.

Sorry, I guess I care about more important things than steam coming off a train...

And still just a rumor. They have already been converted to diesel for fuel and some have been recently refurbished so I would take it all with a grain of salt. Unless of course a bus driver confirmed it.

Using oil to power steam locomotives goes back almost to the early 1900's, Union Pacific and Southern Pacific locomotives were almost entirely oil fired, So fueling a steam locomotive with oil has lots of operational history behind it.

HKDL has Diesel-Hydraulic 'steam' engines which use a small diesel engine to power a hydraulic motor, Just no where NEAR the same, A steam engine is almost alive. There was a reason they called them 'iron horses'.

I would petition for a budget for new attractions in Future World Epcot and Disney Hollywood Studios. I would add more entertainment in all areas. Like PUSH, which are intimate and interactive. Less Princess meet and greets. Characters that are able to roam and pop up. More training and accountability for CMs. The price point all around stinks. Rooms, food, merchandise. Last time we went we bought no merchandise. Capacity rates should be lowered. We went during spring break and I felt like I was being herded everywhere.
As there is so much to choose from that needs help at WDW, I'll focus on just Epcot's WS (FW needs the most attention IMO, but that would take a hour to write up). For some WS triage, I'd shoot some new scenes for the France film -- there's much that could stay but in reality why not shoot in 4K HD and make a new classic. New film for China, and Norway as well. I'd also add another country to the collection; probably a Brazil or South American combo pavilion. I'd also get rid of the Millennium Pavilion and build some sort of E-ticket in its place that is part of the UK Pavilion.

Plus I'd restructure the dining reservations so that advance in-park restaurant reservations are limited to 10 days out and then only 50% of the available tables. If you are paying upwards of $100 a day to visit a theme park there's really no reason why you shouldn't be able to get a meal at a WS locale (yep, even the overrated but nice Le Cellier) if you are willing to wait 30-45 minutes or so, or have a day-of system where folks can use MM+ to reserve a table. Reservations would open when the park does. At least then you'd have a chance of scoring a meal.

But... not very confident any of those things will happen based on the last ten years or so.

I'm looking forward to buying my first Annual Pass in a couple of weeks, though. That $200 Uni Orlando pass is a pretty good looking deal.

The NGE 'Project' of course had it's own architecture group, Disney does not see IT as a 'core function' so it chooses to do things on a project basis so each system in effect stands alone and has it's own support structure.

Hopefully with the new addition to the BoD IT will get a higher profile and importance within Disney and they will constitute a core IT group who has charge of the overall direction of Disney IT.

@WDW1974 might have some more insight into the direction corporate IT is going.

What new addition to the BoD? I'm not an IT person at all but I did get the feeling the software clouds created for WDW" parks, resorts, dvc, were kind of stand alone but linked where they could share info but it wasn't always an automatic thing and this NGE Project/MM+ stuff was being written above it and bringing each inside this bigger cloud...Gosh it sounds really stupid how I just explained what I thought...but anyways not being a techie whatsoever this was my visualization after my MB disaster at BWV last November.

When I'm in the parks with my family, steam on a train is hardly a detail I think and obsess about...

Well...I think once I told the grandkids we were riding on an old fashion steam powered engine....they still think some of the scenes we pass in Frontierland are real...hate to have given them a false detail about the trains..what if it is something they remember and repeat years later?

I just can't get my head around this sort of thinking, and you aren't the first person to have said something like this around here. Disney has always been praised for it's details. Details are really what sets Disney apart from other theme parks. People often don't consciously notice the details, but start taking them away and it diminishes the quality of the park and people will eventually start to notice. Note this is not about "steam on a train" this is about the loss of detail. If this is the only detail that has been lost it wouldn't be a big deal, but people see it as a symptom of a larger problem. Nobody who loves the Disney parks should be accepting of the loss of details.

One of Twitter's founders has been added to TWDC's BoD, Hopefully since IT IS his business the BoD will take a look at the sorry state of Disney IT, Which is worse than the condition of WDW.

You have the correct general idea, It's just the clouds are smaller you need to think in terms of functions, POS for retail and F+B are separate systems, Why do you think they run all your charges last day? because systems have almost no integration, It would be better if TWDC hit your cards immediately but systems are designed around batch processing not tight integration.

They do sort of have that in Cyber Space Mountain.

True,

But since the poster said 'details are not important' why not convert Space Mountain into an audtorium and just hand out Oculus RIft headsets instead of having a physical ride - much cheaper no maintenance no insurance far lower operating cost... It would increase capacity 20X over physical ride.

Hey details are not important...
