The Spirited Seventh Heaven ...

Lots of entertainment for the 60th anniversary. New parades, new pyro, new WoC, new stage show etc.

Something in Hollywoodland at DCA in the near term and, quite likely, a Marvel presence as Micechat has reported.

Toontown going bye-bye for Star Wars further out.
Also isn't Luigis Flying Tires getting taken out in January for a new Cars themed trackless ride according to micechat.

Also disneyland has put the Matterhorn on the refurbishment calendar from January 5 through May 13, maybe they will fix the seats for the 60 year and add the Christmas star on the Matterhorn again.

While it definitely looks like a "best of" version of IOA/USO, I'll say I'm a little dissapointed with how cookie cutter Universal is between all their parks.

Maybe just because WDW hasn't been building much this decade... But Disney has surprisingly shied away from clones amongst their parks recently, at least in terms of E tickets.

Hopefully the Chinese properties set it apart and provide a more compelling reason to visit. Singapore seems to be for the moment the most unique... And it's really not that unique...

Ssshhh ... you don't want the UNI fanbois in the Twitverse to hear you. It is a legit criticism, btw ... although that comes from the conceit that parks have to be different. They don't. UNI is going off a business model where they don't care whether you visit multiple parks of theirs and expect most guests of theirs won't visit multiples. Very few people decide they want to visit Disney or UNI parks in every locale. And they are a totally insignificant audience for $$$.

(BTW, a friend who is on his way to UNI Singapore for the first time coined a phrase ''Universal fatigue'' regarding the fact that so many O-Town UNI attractions are screen-based after a recent visit. I do hope he returns here to 'splain that. I do guess that a few UNI fanbois in the Twitverse will have heads explode over his opinions.)

I will say again that I'd expect both SDL and UNI-Beijing to be SIGNIFICANTLY different from any of their prior parks/resorts. I think that's a good thing. I wouldn't read too much into early artwork here for a park that will likely not open before 2019 or 2020.

The shiraz and chardonnay are pretty good, too. Did you get any cookie butter? There are all kinds of fun things to try there...the Tarte d'Alsace flatbread/pizza, the coconut bonbons...basically, any of the chocolate products. The frozen foods aren't bad, either -- a package of four frozen turkey burgers runs $2.99. The prices at Trader Joe's are actually quite good. A lot better than Whole Foods, which is priced like a Disney theme park.

TJ hasn't replaced Publix for me, but I find myself going there every couple of weeks to pick up some things.

I have a few bottles of the shiraz. No chardonnay as I generally am not a fan. ... No cookie butter. Never had that. I wanted some frozen items and will be going back for that. I don't shop at Whole Food because I'm just not THAT wealthy. Publix is fine for a regional grocery chain (they are good for at least one sub a week from their deli too!)

But Trader Joe's isn't a place that I will do regular shopping at either. They are a niche operator. A place to go once in a while and get some items that you can't get elsewhere. But I wouldn't go there weekly. But to watch some folks grabbing stuff (again, the store opened Friday), you'd think either they were starving or this was the best food on the planet. I don't get that mentality at all. But I also am not a big fan of Dole Whips and Butterbeer and I also think that while In 'N' Out Burger is good, it is highly overrated too ... so, yeah, I'm a wee bit hard to please.

Universal may well have learned from Disney's mistakes in Asia. The Genting Group knew that Universal wanted Transformers: The Ride-3D in Hollywood but still financed the attraction. I would guess that part of this to them not being treated as a source of easy cash for stateside development the way Disney has come to view the Oriental Land Company.

Two interesting (to me, anyway) reads. One that has a lot to do with Disney, one nothing at all.

This is from a blog on Deb Wills' site and I just thought it was interesting because this was the WDW experience I lived and grew up with. I dare anyone to say it wasn't classier than today's Walmarted version of whoring Disney's BRANDS for the masses:

http://land.allears.net/blogs/guestblog/2014/10/ready_from_the_tickle_trunk_wd_2.html

And this is only for those who enjoy flying coast to coast up in the front of the aircraft:

http://www.usatoday.com/story/trave...ntinental-airline-flight/17208981/?csp=travel

I enjoy that site and great article, sad really as that is the way I grew up with it as well. The Disney World we loved and had is dead. They have managed to take away or alter just about everything that made it what it was from the insides and out. Are there still some good spots? Sure, but its a shell of its former self across the board in both appearance and substance.

I have to imagine you are right and it's mostly placeholder artwork. I can't imagine cloning Hulk without the Hulk theme. Coming up with a new custom B&M layout is literally a non-sequeter to their budget. If they did clone it - well then yes - they deserve the foul cry I would toss their way.

I'm still kind of dissapointed Hogsmead was so copy and paste in Osaka. A real missed opportunity to at least fix some of the problems from IOA.

Like you said though... They aren't making the parks for me... For what Beijing shows even on their placeholder artwork they really are getting all the greatest hit. Technically even more filled out than SDL, but SDL stands out as far more unique.... From what little we know.

Sounds all solid to me. This "something" in Hollywood land is not just Frozen, right?

I'm still waiting for HKDL's big news. :D

Was hoping it would come out around now with the new financial year (about a year since they announced Iron Man).

Yes... I'm not so suitably nudging for info while we have your attention...

No, Frozen in DCA is like Frozen at TPFKaTD-MGMS and soon to be TPFKaDHS too. They just want to milk it with temporary (in the Disney way) entertainment and offerings.

As to HKDL, I'll drop some news on that when I can. But they will be adding multiple attractions in the not too distant future. At least one will be major and unique (standard subject to change disclaimer!)

I too would be surprised if it were an exact clone. More than likely I think some painter needed something and looked at what was right there.

A few months ago, I found an old Disney Store Christmas catalog from the early 90s. It was full of high quality, reasonably priced collectibles that they haven't produced in at least 20 years.

About five years ago, I threw out about 50 of those catalogs. I sorta wish I hadn't now. The artwork on the covers was higher quality than much of what we see elsewhere nowadays.
