The Spirited Seventh Heaven ...

The DISBoards tend to be on the positive side, but I have listed to the podcast for while now and it is generally pretty balanced. They are not afraid to call out Disney, or and other Orlando park for that matter, when they don't like something. This is especially surprising because the people who do the podcast run an Orlando travel agency.

No offense, but never been my impression, going back to the "Save the Adventurers Club" campaign 6/7 years ago, when they were firmly in the Mouse's back pocket. And as I said, I quit reading years ago because of the pro-Disney-right-or-wrong viewpoint. If they're more balanced now (and you're the second person I trust to tell me they are), it's a recent phenomenon.

You say "reading", note that I am not talking about the boards, but the podcast. I feel the podcast has been pretty balanced for quite a few years now.

Fair enough. Not to start that debate again, but I don't even listen to my friends' podcasts. But the same people who do the podcast are the mods who post right? I never considered them balanced in any sense of the word.

The problem with Iger is that he doesn't have what George Herbert Walker Bush called the "vision thing". He looks at theme parks with an accountant's eye and has no imagination as for where to take it (i.e a "vision"). It is said that he came up with the idea for Avatar at DAK while at a Hollywood party.

Iger was a TV guy and former weatherman. To my knowledge he never had a high level job that was remotely close to being related to Finance or Accounting. Staggs and Rasoulo are former Wall Street guys so I guess an argument could be made that they are looking at things with an "accountant's eye". It's a fanboy urban legend that if someone comes from the creative side of the business that they will automatically have a "vision" for the company and inspire the creative process but if they come from the finance side they will only look at things from an "accountant's eye". I guess what I'm saying is that having a finance background doesn't mean you will automatically be a penny pinching, budget cutting executive once you move into operations management. The opposite is true too. Iger came from the operations and creative side of the business, not finance, so he is a perfect example of why the urban legend doesn't hold water. Even if a guy like Alan Horn or even John Lassiter took over the top post there is no guarantee they would be any better for the P&R business. They would certainly favor the studios side of the business at first since that is what they are familiar with. It's a big leap to assume they would automatically champion the needs of WDW.

The real issue for P&R is they don't have a strong, charismatic leader who could rise up to the rank of CEO but still favor the parks since that is where they came from. Staggs is the closest thing, but he isn't a real P&R guy. He's just spending time there until the next job comes along. I'm gonna get killed for saying this, but maybe he would favor the parks some as CEO. Do we really know that he agrees with Iger on all things P&R? He allegedly pushed for swapping out the pixie meet and greet with Mine Train. Maybe he would be more loose with the purse strings than Iger. I'm not saying it's likely, but it's possible. Problem is I don't see him being much of a champion for WDW even if he pushes through P&R spending.

No, I think the people doing the podcast are nearly not at all on the boards itself with the exception of the "podcast board". The do have all kind of different moderators. I think they are all more involved with the travel agency business side of things than the forum side.

I also find that it is far less the moderators on those forums, but the general crowd that provides the "pixie-duster" atmosphere. In the last year there has been quite a change in tone though with price increases and MM+ problems.

No, I do not believe the people who do the podcast are involved on a regular basis with the boards.

Why would they have to troll their own boards to get traffic to their own site? I am not sure what you are getting at?
Not trolling their own boards, but other forums with tens of thousands of members. Such as can be found in another thread here....

WDW needs a champion who understands its history and appreciates the differences between what it was, what it is, and what it could be.

In Anaheim the execs are surrounded by people who've worked at Disneyland for decades, the fanbase is pretty powerful and there is an appreciation of history that is rarely forgotten. When changes are made there, they have to be pretty sure they're going to be for the better.

This feeds directly up to the suits at Burbank, who are constantly aware of treading a fine line. There just isn't an equivalent for WDW. A few meetings a year where the VPs fly up and tell them how wonderful they're managing things in Florida, how revenue is climbing, and that's about as far as they get to worrying about it.

if the Burbank gang had people around them complaining about what's going on in Orlando, you could be sure they'd take action, but at the moment WDW isn't even a blip on their radar.

Am I the only one lost here? To what thread are you referring?
Our newest member in the Frozen thread. I don't know if it's still in his signature (I'm on my phone currently), but he had links to his podcast site and Twitter feed (which also links to the podcast site)....

Gotcha. I'm also here via my phone and had not seen his signature. Everything suddenly makes sense. ;)
