The Spirited Seventh Heaven ...

I don't quite understand the logic ... a few scenes could easily be replaced by more modern versions ala Wizard of Oz but the sentiment is still present. So your telling me no teenager has seen Alien, Oz, Indiana Jones, Casablanca, Singin' in the rain, Mary Poppins, any gangster film, any western ... sorry ... "I don't believe you". Maybe your readership is the problem. Yep they won't gut it change out maybe the finale and update the effects that will be about it.
Agreed ... the logic is ... unusual. A classic movie is just that ... a classic ... meant for generations to appreciate ... Casablanca was 30 years before my time ... but the film is beautiful ... I was 7 when Raiders came out ... 3 when Star Wars came out ... but love all of them. Even if they haven't seen them yet ... maybe it will inspire them to see them and form a new appreciation for cinema and creative writing.

Here's a quick aside… I know we all rag on Jim Hill for getting tossed from Disneyland for a time.

But it does tend to happen. Credentials do get abused and people do get caught.

I heard of one writer who was blacklisted for a period of time because he gave his credential to his brother and let his brother come in and enjoy free stuff or something of that nature. He got busted, Disney got really ed.

But this was years ago when I believe the gentleman in question is back covering Disney on a full-time basis… and no, I will not reveal it was because that's not important.

The point being? Disney will forgive. Eventually.

Howdy!

FWIW, I can see Disney's logic for gutting GMR. The newest movie in any of the sets is Raiders (1981), right? 33 years ago? Most teenagers haven't seen any of them. It gets below-average scores from every reader demographic in the book. The best thing it has going for it is capacity, and that can be duplicated.

My biggest surprise in talking to Jim is the timeframe for DHS changes. I'd be surprised if it doesn't happen before 2020.

I can understand many not getting the John Wayne, Casablanca, the big stage show stuff (oh, broken.. no worries), and a lot of the pre-show film. But to not get the Raider, Gangster, Western, Oz, etc is just dumb people. And make your kids watch the IJ trilogy, Star Wars, Back to the Future, etc.. or I'll call child protective services ;)

We've covered this before... Hollywood's Golden Age hasn't had much exposure for people born since the 90s. Much of DHS is set to celebrate that period.. and that whole topic is over the head of many.

I'd guess if anyone truly had access to all of those numbers daily that they could have a very nice Lifestyler site by simply posting them.

Not looking to get into a ing match with you in your own thread--to be vague, last week has put a lot of things in life into perspective--but I'll stand by what I posted, and add not everyone in Orlando wants to be a lifestyler. I don't know any of them--with the possible exception of Mongello who I'm convinced is on the Disney payroll--who are making real money at it. (Some of them seem to be be making money some other way, but I digress.) But for every wannabe blog/Twitter star in this town, there's at least two young professionals who want nothing more than to move somewhere they can actually be successful.* It's hard to do that on an Orlando salary tho.

Besides, the big boy parks seem happy with the inflated TEA numbers being accepted as gospel, as they generally overinflate everyone's numbers. Would harass any site with credible real numbers out of existence.

* One friend managed to move to Dallas last year--instantly doubled his salary; another moved to Connecticut and quickly found a job with over a 50% pay bump.

It's sad that probably the most dated and forgotten reference in the ride is "George of the Jungle."

Hardly an original idea, but converting the ride to just Disney animated movies couldn't cost that much relative to a new E-ticket, and would send guest satisfaction through the roof. They could even throw in Frozen while they're at it. If you want to keep the hijacker element, use a face character Hook or Cruella.

The character depicted is Tarzan, as played by Johnny Weismuller. However, the cheesy canned script has a joke: "Who's that? No ... not George of the Jungle."

Implying an obscure 90s Brendan Frasier movie (and even more obscure 1960s cartoon) is more iconic than Tarzan.

ohhhhhhhhh the script ok gotcha

Was going to drop in here for a bit, but just heard some very sad news -- Robin Williams is dead at 63 (suicide) and I just don't feel like the back and forth.

Sad, sad, sad.
Incredibly sad. The guy had a ton of demons and always seemed on the edge since day one...which was part of his allure. Started of as a great comedic mind and transformed himself into a fantastic dramatic actor. So very, very sad.

Just listening to the latest Season Pass Podcast, part 3 of an interview with Tony Baxter. Man, the guy just gets it. He may not be everyone's favorite but he understands what makes a great attraction...and what doesn't.
He did an interview on Lou's podcast, as well. He even got in some subtle digs at Disney... I'm assuming they either went over Lou's head or he forgot to edit them out. He's making the rounds on the podcasts, but he forgot to write a book to shill; I wonder what's up?

No book so soon is probably why he has a Window on Main Street, USA and is a Disney Legend. He was definitely more forward with his remarks than last year. Maybe he'll be even more blunt next year.

Wouldn't it be so much easier, and make so much more sense, to just replace one of the Great Movie Ride scenes with Frozen rather than shoehorn the thing into Norway where it simply doesn't belong. I'd hate to see it converted solely to Disney IP's, but changing out the occasional scene is just what the attraction needs.

I'm not getting the impression that people finding the idea baffling is a means of trying to refute the credibility of the information. it just seems like a very bizarre placement. I'm not overly shocked, but I also dislike the placement of the new lands at Hong Kong Disneyland, especially the way Disneyland Paris so improved upon the organization and cohesiveness of the lands.
Actually, I find the idea being baffling makes the rumor more credible. Just like the crazy idea of teepees over the water at WL made that rumor more credible. (Just for the record, I'm not being ironic here, I do believe these rumors in large part because they are so out there.)

Lou probably let it go since they were a) subtle and b) wants to make sure he has access to Tony in the future. I love books about the inner workings of the Disney parks so I'd be happy if Tony wrote a book...which will likely not happen for a few years if I were a betting man.
