The Spirited Seventh Heaven ...

Families only made up 45% of Maleficent's opening day weekend crowd. The main reason for Maleficent's success I think is this:

"It's also important to note that Maleficent was the first major Summer movie targeted toward women. At the risk of sounding redundant, women make up half of the population and half of moviegoers and will continue to reward movies with interesting lead female characters."

- Box Office Mojo

Maleficent is the third female-lead box office tentpole hit in the last 8 months. And neither Frozen or Hunger Games had anything to do with the typical Hollywood "chick flick" conventional thinking of what women want to see in a movie (the story of finding a man with shopping along the way). It's all proof that not every blockbuster has to star a male character or be male-centric to be a success.

the story of finding a man with shopping along the way

Nicely phrased.

Although not all chixflix can be categorized that way. Is "When Harry Met Sally" a chick flick? I've always thought of it as one, although it is a very funny, very good movie. So is "Hitch".

Is Maleficent really a chick flick? I never thought of it being aimed at any one group. Haven't seen it yet myself...maybe I'll catch it on Netflix.

It does look really good and well done, lots of scenes and details,,,cmon Disney get back to your roots, enough already with slapping on cheap overlays and meetngreets.
Heres a good video.

Not a family ride...Not when they are playing Still D.R.E by Dr. Dre and Snoop Dog uncensored and the N word and the f word being used in the first five seconds of the second video portion of the ride.

I'm sure they are still adjusting it. Weather an wear will determine that. If there's a mild to strong breeze it may look more impressive. If it's very windy I'm sure they'll turn it off. When they had the extended confetti fall at grand opening they shut it off due to concerns the confetti would turn into a rain of fire. So safety overrules all.

I'm just curious how long it will be until some unfortunate bird flies into the path.

If that happens, guests will probably think it's just another effect: "Oh, look, it's Fawkes the Phoenix! Man, Universal's thought of everything!" :D

I don't like the term "chick flick" at all, as I find it an insult more than anything else. Though it is good at describing the kind of schlocky movies that play on TV during Sunday afternoons that feel like they were made based on surveying middle-aged women at Pottery Barn.

"When Harry Met Sally" is simply a good movie. Doesn't need any terms placed on it that imply it's only for one gender.

No, it's more 80s-fantasy type movie as someone else said before.

No comment other than Disney will not be happy with what I put out, and I feel about as bad about that as they do for charging me $14 for a burger, fries and a Coke at the ABC Commissary that was damn near inedible and not as fresh as a $1.19 McDouble at an area McD's or having inadequate air conditioning at many locations in their theme parks because, unlike UNI, they have contempt for their guests and cast.

I am supposed to speak with someone with knowledge of this particular subject this evening when I return from a family dinner. Depending on what I hear, I'll post over the weekend if possible.

Hmmm, whatever could it be...?

Target Frozen merchandise update.

Still no dolls or dresses, or really anything aside from terribly made and over priced Olaf and Sven plush. However the entire Disney aisle seemed disheveled and there weren't many princess dolls at all this time.

The disney Littlest Pet Shoppe ripoffs are all on clearance. "I'm so surprised!" Said no one ever.

The other Sofia the first thing is also on clearance and there's a dozen of them.

The DVD/bluray display for Frozen is still up as well.

Aside from these few things the only other Frozen stuff I saw in the store were underwear for little girls (which I'm not about to photograph) and one night gown. There was an empty display for tshirts in the kids section as well.

Toys R Us seems to be doing better. Last week they had a pretty good selection including the $120 ice palace playset. Lots of 12" Anna dolls. We were able to get a 12" Elsa that sings when you hold her hands.

Hearing Snoop Dog made me do a spit take. If indeed they don't censor it....well...Aerosmith has been getting away with "shakin' yo " on RnRC for years.

Only in Europe. :D

So I take it the Arthur IP that this ride is based on is not the movie from the '80s starring Dudley Moore. I was wondering why anyone would think that would make a good ride although I supposed there would be a certain appeal if they played (When you get caught) Between the Moon and New York City while gliding over NYC Peter Pan Style. But I digress....

(BTW, this is why I would never make it as an Imagineer. My two ride ideas today have been based on a mashed potato mountain and a bad '80s movie. I'm making PeterAlt's ideas sound sane.)
