The Spirited Seventh Heaven ...

I don't like Apple and their associated products. A person couldn't pick up a pile of parts, assemble them and load software ending up with a working computer that was Apple based. The reluctance of Apple to allow clones led me down the road to dislike them a long time ago.

Not having clones is the thing that allows for easier app writing in IOS. People always wonder why there is sometimes a huge lag between an Apple IOS app and its release on Android or Windows phone platforms. There are just more things that break apps because of the minor differences between phones on the other platforms. There are pros and cons to allowing clones or not. However, from someone who is just getting into app development, I'm focusing more on making the app work first. So, I will spend my time doing it on the IOS platform and getting the bugs out there before I even try to deal with the quirks of the other platforms. Disney seems to have the same style of implementation with the My Disney Experience app.

The reality is its important. We just spent the weekend at Hershey Park. My wife and I downloaded the app and it was invaluable for all the reasons it makes sense at WDW. Wait times, closures, re-openings, having smartphones and navigating theme parks makes too much sense, fortunately or unfortunately, however you choose to look at it.

We went to Hersheypark a few weeks ago and the app is, as you said, invaluable. We loved using the GPS to get from one ride to another, once we had toured the whole place and wanted to bounce back and forth to favorite rides. It's not intuitive like a Magic Kingdom-type layout.

Two problems with your theory. Most of the people close to Disney Springs make <$10/hour and aren't buying Apple products. And those with money and a proclivity toward buying Apple products in the area are far more likely to want to go to Millenia than Disney World (this is why all Econ majors should be required to take a couple Psych classes).

Not saying there will be no local customers--bound to be a few. But I bet there's at least two green-shirted Cast Members outside the store at all times, and that shows who the target demo is.
As much as I hate the idea of an Apple Store at Disney Springs, it does make sense. There are still a lot more places without Apple stores than with. Heck, the closest one to me is three hours away and I live in Florida. It's kind of like IKEA. I know people who will make trips to IKEA or Apple Stores when on vacation because there isn't one near them. They are actually semi-tourist attractions at times. I'd rather see an Apple Store than a big refrigerator magnet store.

We should be thankful the rotten apple store will be in DT Disney and not on Main Street USA near the perfectly themed Starbucks. Might look out of place. [sarc]

Heading for the great escape.
I'm an Iron Maiden fan myself. My first live concert
I saw maiden open for Priest then return a few months later on their own tour. Mr Dickinson was still fronting Samson who were more famed for their gimp mask wearing drummer than the vocal dexterity of young Bruce.
Still I look forward to next weekends show with some anticipation.

Oh, I know that foreigners tend to spend a ton of money in these places because of the exchange rate, I was just playing a bit of devil's advocate.

But you are right about the psychology factor. People are far more likely to want to go to a place that has an upscale reputation than Walt Disney World. Not saying Disney Springs won't be nice (the concept art looks great from what i've seen), but the stigma that it's "Disney" could drive the locals away. Or possibly that they had bad experiences parking there within the last year or two...

If I were to guess, since they didn't actually reduce the EMH, they just changed the dates, it could just be related to the fact that the two busiest parks now have nighttime EMH available on the most expensive days of the week to stay at WDW. Epcot on Friday and MK on Saturday (used to be Sunday nights). Generally speaking, in order to save some money, if we're going to stay on site, I avoid Friday and Saturday nights (check in Sun and out on Fri); of course, in the past we really enjoyed the Sunday night EMH at MK.

Sadly, this is probably not entirely true. People making <$10/hour shouldn't be buying Apple products, but the almighty credit card is a powerful addiction to some people.

Wow...what an assumption. You are assuming people who make <$10 are addicted to credit cards and should not buy Apple products?

Who are you to tell people what to and what NOT to buy? You make it sound like people who only make that amount (most who work for Disney) are irresponsible.

I used to be right with you, but there came a point when I decided I just wanted a phone and have no plans to upgrade it unless necessary and with iFixit I can replace just about anything so no worries there. Then I purchased a MBP so I could tinker with app writing and ended up upgrading the RAM from 4Gb to 8Gb, swapped the HD twice replaced the optical drive with a 1Tb drive and now have a 256Gb SSD and 1Tb drive for media and rarely if ever use my virtual Windows 7 instance on it because I don't have to. Now the MBP is over 5 years old, still running strong with absolutely no hardware problems but every other laptop (Windoows 7 and 8) we have purchased since has died and been replaced.

...

I suppose it is exchange rate based, as what you pay in $$$$$ we would have in pay in £££. Though as a tequila drinker I do purchase several bottles because we dont have the availability and some that I paid less than $30 cost £40+.

Bottoms up

really? you don't think a huge percentage of young people have iPhones?

Certainly not the latest iPhone, that I've seen. And a lot fewer have laptops and iPads. Smartphones yes, but generally the free one you get for signing up for service. So while there is probably a market for customer service/tech support, I imagine most sales will be going to our South American friends. Saludos amigos!

Go into an apple store and look at the genius bar area - Apple stores are like 1/3 iphone support stores. For which a large # they sell new phones to replace broken screens. The access to support is why most people like/want an Apple store in the area. They can buy the product anywhere... but local support? That's the Apple Store.

Foreigners from Europe buy Apple products in bulk when in the US. No 15-25% VAT and no regional markup.

I can attest to this. I have friends in Europe and Israel who often will upgrade their iPhones and Macs here before they leave. For what an unsubsidized Android goes for in Israel, they can get an unlocked iPhone here.
An unlocked iPhone 5S 16GB goes for $649.00.
