When I was a kid we stayed at the Cardinal Motel in N Wildwood every summer. I haven't been to Wildwood in years, but I think it actually still exists. One of the few that wasn't turned to condos during the real estate bubble.

I remember the Cardinal well and it is still there. My grandmother had a house in N. Wildwood (10th and Jersey) so that's where we stayed growing up. Except the weekend school let out each year my parents and I and about 7 other couples and their kids would all spend the weekend at the Casa Nova in the Crest. It had a 9 hole mini golf, indoor pool, and an awesome arcade, with a couple pool tables too. Best arcade north of the Fiesta Fun Center.

As a little kid, I loved driving through the Wildwoods and seeing all the signs for the motels. My favorite was always the Suitcase Motel with the couple hanging out inside, pre or post-coital, waving as you passed.

It's funny how cabana bay is trying to recapture this era in a cool way. Granted I feel like they took the idea of pop century and turned it up to 11. I always feel like if you're going to copy someone, put the original to shame... not that hard in this case.

Wawa and now Wildwood in a Disney thread? Very much enjoying it as a Philadelphia area expat who has eaten my share of Wawa hoagies and went to wildwood every year with my family for vacation growing up.

I had had spent at least day in Wildwood every year of my life from age 1 through probably sometime into my 20's. At some point it became much more sporadic. I did drive through last year on the way up to OC from the ferry, but haven't stayed there in about 4 years.

Among the hotels I've stayed out - Casa Bahama (gone), Waterways (gone), Admiral East and Admiral West, Markay (I think gone), Pyramid, Royal Hawaiian, Mark I, Georgeanna (gone), Ala Kai, and I'm sure I'm forgetting some.

You already cluttered up entire threads about Dragon Challenge closing over on OU. Please keep this nonsense away from this thread.

Seriously, it's nothing more than a fanboy pipe dream right now.
I didn't even bring up the issue initially... you can blame the other 3 or 4 who mentioned it first. But okay....

Never said it would... just wouldn't be shocked if it didn't. And I did 5 or 6 posts in one thread - get the number of them right if you're gonna attack me. You're the one who brought up the Lego Movie nonsense in KidZone.

I point out the flaws at Disney and Universal alike -sue me ;)

I can't support a comic book based on characters that Disney has removed/reduced from the park they were created for.

To me, this is the same smarmy crap as Horizons tees and Mr. Toad vinyls. Just no interest whatsoever in rewarding a company for bad behavior.
I'm glad to see I'm not the only one! My visceral reaction to the announcement of the Figment comic was positive. I wanted to follow more about Figment and Dreamfinder from a pure nostalgia perspective. But as I thought about it a little more, it started to hit me like the Horizons T-Shirts that enraged me so much. It's pandering, pure and simple, taking advantage of nostalgia to make money off of bad decisions.
While I would think that on an author/artist level, the people actually making the comic likely have a deep love for the IP, and probably pour a lot into it. But the decision to green light the book was made only to make money off of the property, not anything else, and I can't support that.

That was not the best theme for a resort hotel, it won't age well at all. And we spend a few weekends out of the year in Wildwood, NJ which gave birth and re-birth to the Doo-Wop motels. It works best for the family-owned and operated motels with small footprints, very customer friendly. There are a lot of great ones, our favorite is the Caribbean:

Which makes me think, how awesome would it have been if they actually themed the "resort" as a seaside area with each building being much smaller and made to look like distinct and different properties.

This is very much anecdotal evidence, but on our way to the Gulf coast for my not even close to Spirited or faux 1% family vacation we stopped at DTD last Saturday. It was beyond packed. Thanks to advice from people here we parked in the CM lot behind the gas station and had no issues getting in and out, but at the time we arrived I wasn't expecting that big of a crowd. Rain Forest Cafe had about a 45 minute wait at 12:30 for lunch and when we left at 3PM they still had a wait. You could barely walk around or get through any stores. Now I understand the need and desire to expand that place. We didn't spend any time at Disney or Universal since we were just passing through so I can't comment on the crowds at the parks.

Oh how I remember the days of the "DTD is a ghost town" meme.

Save Pleasure Island blog has amazing pictures today. The project just keeps escalating. Really amazing and an attraction all by itself.

On a side note, they say HoB will be the only true club (as they define it) in Disney Springs. I think this is possible and good news. Orlando will be the new place for partiers. See the new Orlando Magic venue concept art.

Cyrus was never on Mickey Mouse Club and Spears had a mental issue. There were nearly 2 dozen members on the 90s MMC and if you can only pick out 2 that had "issues" I'd say we're doing pretty good.

Disney didn't do a 4th version because they're short sighted idiots, not because Britney Spears shaved her head.
hence why I said club/team.. Cyrus was still a big thing on the disney channel.
but as soon she left, she went bonkers trying to imitate Madonna and Lady Gaga's stunts.

Don't at all want to have the other part of the discussion here ... but I'd agree with the above and say women are just as bad. It's a generational thing (BTW, is Gen Y the same as the so-called Millenials?) ... and that is why they love tech like FB and Twitter. It can keep so much conflict away. You don't want anyone to push you on your world (or World) view? Simply cocoon yourself in a clique where everyone knows your name and will egg you on.

Personally, I think conflict is quite healthy. Yelling, arguing, cursing people out, making them cry (occasionally!) isn't necessarily a bad thing. Passive aggressive BS is much less healthy and it doesn't allow one to mature normally in society.

Yes, Gen Y = Millenials = (roughly) kids born 1982 (or maybe a bit later) - 2001. These things are far from scientific--easy to say when the Boomer Era begin, tougher to say when it ended, for example. But largely the children of late-marrying Boomer parents--and institutions run by Boomers--who looked back on their own lives and decided to swing the pendulum back to try to recapture their own 50s childhoods. Hence "helicopter moms" who accompanied their kids on college interviews and the like. And yes, the growth in personal tech like smartphones and the internet did not help.

Most telling example I can think of. Gen X was raised on reruns of ultra-violent, conflict-based Bugs Bunny cartoons. Gen Y was raised on Blue's Clues. Who stands a better chance in the real world, Bugs or Blue?

Well, all hotels wants to have something that differentiates them from the other.
some do very well, some do awful.

Oh hey. Y'all are talkin bout my generation. It will be interesting to see what happens to Mommy Bloggers and park touring style when the majority of Gen Ys have families. Talking Mickey will have to learn to say names like Phineas and Khaleesi.
or Lakisha, Latoya, Nakisha, Tanisha..etc..etc..

I am surprised also on the R5 deal. I am just not seeing much cross pollination of Disney records and DTV as much as we used to. The offerings of DTV original movies has dropped from a high of 12 new original movies in 2000 to 1 last year and 3 on tap for this year. The average since 1999 is over 6 movies per year. Looks like WDW is not the only thing that is being limited on budgets. The entire Disney empire at the present time seems to be about boosting or trying to keep level with stock price hence stock buyback and limit original programing. Reap money from people without offering any thing new is the new mantra and oh yeah, lets have a bunch of people talk about it in 140 characters or less (which is actually brilliant because how many different ways can you describe FLE in 140 characters?). I do not know if HP at UNI will wake the giant but whomever inherits the top position is going to have to learn to be creative something I never thought would have to be taught at Disney.
R5, as mentioned, is pretty talented and seems to be a great fir for the style going on right now. Seeing as how they all play their own instruments and already have a bit of a national tie in with their cameo on American Idol, I am really surprised they are not being better supported by TWDC. That is, unless they are not seeking support from the Mouse. . .
