The Epcot Manifesto
Great Clips is well known for their financial prowess. I'll retire early thanks to the tips I get from Rhonda, the 22 year old who recently graduated from an online cosmetics class and cuts my hair.
True story. At a Great Clips I learned that it's possible to kill someone by pouring hot bacon grease in their ear while they are sleeping, supposedly from personal experience of the "stylist" who had a pair of scissors close to my head.
Might be why I don't tend to get many haircuts anymore...

Bet you left a good tip, too.

Well that was a bit of a read.

I don't think much of maelstrom so I won't miss it, and there are worse places to stick frozen- Morocco for example:D

And I think someone mentioned maleficent a few pages ago. I saw it today, and it's nothing like the adverts. Visually it's stunning. But the tone is all over the place- definitely strongest when it's bleaker but that isn't present nearly enough.

Also the accents were... unique to say the least. I've never met Scottish people who sound like THAT.

Maybe because the Disney characters in TS look so horribly fake you'd have to be legally blind to really think they are legit Disney characters.

I thought those were all ladies/other of the night. After the new mayor came in things really took a turn for the worse.

Gotcha. I dunno. When I was just there it seemed like a lot of people to only be 1 per car. On our final night we ditched the parks early because it was pretty crazy crowded in DL and the lines at the turnstiles to hop to DCA were obscenely long as well. We opted to throw in the towel and go to bed early. I was pretty bummed considering it was our last night and that's not at all how I envisioned leaving the wonderful west. If there's no real "off" season anymore (even during the week) it shows attendance is driving towards a need for more capacity in the existing parks or another park. There was even an article (perhaps OC Register?) that had someone from Disney saying the curbing of the SoCal APs was out of concern for the guest experience. Also mentioned other APs could be affected as well. I don't think they're just worried about enough parking. ;) Does Disney expand their capacity or try to curb the masses and stick with what they have? I wonder if @WDW1974 might have picked up any hint at what Disney is feeling about their attendance and possible direction in CA.

Additionally, MM in DL was pretty useless even during the week. Wait times were the same or longer than during the day. APs don't get MM unless they're staying on-property. This seriously points to a bigger attendance impact than just local APers. Wouldn't you think?

Parking is a huge issue for DLR, and they've had multiple opportunities to do something about it over the past 10 years, and they've just kicked the can further down the road each time. That's no longer an option, and the new Pumbaa structure needs to be erected ASAP. They'd be nuts not to do that.

Bummer about the lines in the Esplanade, but Friday nights are big for DLR, as APers descend after work. Also, DLR turnstiles take FOREVER. Haven't been to WDW since they switched to turnstile-free entry, but their turnstiles used to be so much quicker to get through than DLR's ever were. The process they use takes forever, so long lines in the Esplanade are unfortunately common. I'd encourage you to stick it out next time you visit if you encounter a turnstile line - 10-20 minutes in line to get a few more hours of park time when you're visiting from out of state isn't a horrible trade. I only skip turnstile lines if the stretch close enough to the other park to start blending, and that hardly ever happens.

No. "They" don't…

Every conference attendee and executive person that I have that does not like it. Every person who is not 100% technology savvy, does not like it. Every person that does not have a smart phone does not like it. Every person I've met over the age of 60 does not like it.

You know who does? The overplanning, primarily English-speaking, average family of four with a ridiculous disposable income.

That does not describe the current demographics of the Walt Disney World resort.
Don't mean to mess up your statistics, but, I had been an executive with my own business, I am not 100% technology savvy, I do not own a smart phone and I am 66 years old. I like it. The reason why I like it is that I see it differently then so many on this board (and others). I don't see it as a total waste of money because it has features that are different then what I am used to. I don't see it as a total waste because there are no giant $$$ signs currently in neon saying how much income it generated. I don't see it as a total waste because a large, large part of it was strictly a much needed upgrade to an old and less then useful IT system.

I don't see it as a total waste because it allows me to make advance FP+ positions that formally I wasn't able to get due to the fact that I still look at a Disney Park as a fun vacation trip and don't necessarily want to get up at the crack of dawn just to be sure that I can ride my favorite. I don't give a rats butt if they are tracking me in the parks, because they have been doing that for years, just with camera's instead of electronically. I don't care if they know what I bought. I didn't go to the shops or dining facilities in costume so no one would know I was there. I don't care if they know what I enjoy for dinner, in fact, I hope that the more they know about that the more likely it will be that it will always be there when I want it.

The "they" I refer to are the people I spoke to on line for the rides, on the buses, and on the monorail between the two trips in the past month. This included a group of college girls waiting in line with me for SWDT (the first time I rode it), a young couple standing in line in front of me for Splash Mountain, a group of back-packing 20-something's (one guy, two girls) on line with me for SWMT the second time I rode it, and various groups of other people my sister and I were talking to from a few weeks ago.
You mean the people that go there without a preconceived notion about how things should be based on what we, as self-appointed experts on everything, judge to be good or bad? Those fools that go to WDW because they enjoy it and do not spend massive amounts of thoughts about what is making money and what isn't, when it isn't their problem. The same ones that have not erroneously made the call that if they hadn't spend the money on that, there would be so many new attractions that we couldn't even count them all. Is it that group?

The one beautiful thing about the current cavalcade of Disney senior executives is that it really doesn't matter if ordinary folk think the money is "well spent".

MyMagic+'s success or failure should be judged based on how well it performs financially.

MyMagic+ should be evaluated using the following baseline numbers from the last 3 years:

Baseline
- Domestic Attendance: 3% growth per annum
- Domestic Per Capita Guest Spending: 8% growth per annum
- Domestic Occupancy: 81% average
- Domestic Per Room Guest Spending: 6% growth per annum
- Parks & Resorts Revenue: 10% growth per annum
- Parks & Resorts Gross Operating Income: 19% growth per annum

If these numbers improve sufficiently to cover the cost of MyMagic+, then MyMagic+ was money "well spent".

If not, then MyMagic+ represents a waste of valuable corporate investment capital.

At this point, reviews or personal stories along the lines of "I love it" or “I think the money was well spent” really don’t matter anymore.

MyMagic+ has been unveiled to the masses.

At this point, it's all about box office receipts.

“Show me the money.”
That is true, to some extent, but what the hell does it matter. It is here and it is to far into established to ever be replaced for at least a decade. Might as well get used to it. MM+ or some close variation of it, is what we have and what we are going to have to work with for quite a while.

To the person who thinks I'm trying to debate something, I'm simply reporting what was said in conversations I had with people and I am in no way suggesting what they said speaks for the average WDW guest.
This is going to hurt to say... so I'll just say it. I have not always been sympathetic to Peter's Wild Ride through Theme park operations, but in this case he has done nothing except report what he heard. I know that in the past he has said many things that have totally P.O. many that were logically trying to convince him otherwise, but I am afraid that the current attack, as far as I can see, is really not justified and is more of a reflex kick then a thought out one. Given he does go overboard many times, this I don't see as one of them
