Declining occupancy numbers at the resorts, and stagnant or declining park attendance (Studios), not possibly a clue?

Your numbers are old.
Occupancy numbers are back up to %83.
The studios attendance might be lagging behind the others, but it's not declining, and profitability is up.

I really wonder if this will ever get going. Will be interesting to see.

It is looking like a 90% chance this is going to happen, only thing that can happen is if the financial backers pull out, which is highly unlikely, and the fact the UK government has given the project NATIONALLY SIGNIFICANT INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECT status means it can by-pass local planning restrictions .

if this gets built, send me a one way ticket to London. I want a one way ticket anyway, but that's another story.

lol,for any particular reason? Only ride confirmed so far is the star trek one, rumours of a mission impossible stage show and maybe a transformers ride, although I don't know how they can use that franchise based on universal studios and whether they have sole rights to use it in parks!

It's a publicly-traded company, not a kitten.
It's not supposed to have a soul.

Also, what "western societies" are you talking about?
I have no idea what frame of reference you're speaking from or what line of criticism of free market capitalism you think you're taking up.

Do some research on Hofstede's Cultural Dimensions. It outlines and qualifies several aspects of values found in different countries. Make note of the cultural values of other vibrant capitalist countries then contrast those values against what we find here in the USA.

I have a small obsession with all things British. Enough to live somewhere on the island.

You mean I'm not the ONLY one here who has read Hofstede's or any other works on corporate anthropology.

Erm no, The Composite numbers are high ie (Cash + DVC), The cash numbers are declining especially in the Deluxes DVC is on the order of 92% or so at all resorts. It's why the discounted rooms + meal plan ads are back at the values and moderates.

Wow.. you're batting 1.000

Here's a hint... Corporate Responsibility... It's not just slideware in other parts of the world.

Yup - its clear you aren't even aware of the other ways of working. Educate yourself.

Uhh.. no. It was called 9/11 - not a planned pull back.

THIS - Again this post needs 10,000 likes!

Some Spirited Quick Hits:

First, since we all seem to love talking about capitalism and how amazing and MAGICal it can be, something a friend sent me this morning that put a giant smile on my face (and put me in the mood to go eat some Chik-Fil-A):

Nice to see @Kuhio back. I'm very good at summoning Spirits and I look forward to more of his Asian observations as well as those from @WDWFigment. To be fair about your 'clapping like a seal' when you rode MM, I see you do that regularly at restaurants when your food arrives at the table! As to your comments on the attraction, I know folks who built Gringotts and the Hogwarts Express who share your opinion of the attraction. And I am going to be one nasty Spirit if I don't get back to HKDL soon to experience it.

No, despite a thread (haven't read one post) on it, the newest Toy Story film isn't behind the flat rides coming to TPFKaTD-MGMS and TPSTFBKaDHS.

I hear that the fanboi brigade on the Twit feed are all upset about a fourth TS film and my response would be why? The characters are beloved. The three prior films have all been great. Why complain about this? I get the angst about Pirates 5. I even get it about Frozen 2. But John Lasseter and Pixar love these characters and have done them proud and I don't see that changing.

You want something unique? Big Hero 6 opens today. You want something unique from Pixar? They have three films in the pipeline that aren't sequels.

The London Paramount Park? Like the Spanish Paramount Park, I'll believe it's happening when it is at least 30% built. I certainly hope it does happen. The market exists in both nations and, yes, it will only push others like Disney to better things.

Back to capitalism because I just find it so amazing, so scary and so American for ants (and that is what we are) who feel the need to stand up for corporations and their right to make as much as possible at any cost and to treat workers in any way to get there. Yes, that is one sign of a former great society that doesn't have much left in the tank. Apparently, no lessons were learned in 2008 except the economic collapse was caused by those former neighbors that you hated buying a home for $569,000 when they could only afford a $210,000 home and then having them run up $75,000 in credit card debt that they defaulted on.

Responsibility is a two way street to my 'friends' and, yes, I use that term lightly, on the right. If individuals need to show it and live by it in your view of the perfect America, then so also do corporations. $9 an hour and providing no benefits (free theme park admission and 60% off $400 a night hotels don't count) isn't doing so.

Now ... I must run ... I just heard that Black Friday was starting today because why even wait until 6 a.m. on (blanking) Thanksgiving Day to mindlessly spend.

83% is still pretty bad given what they charge.

But anyway, I thought occupancy numbers were rigged by closing wings of hotels to make less room inventory available. I'd love to see occupancy numbers based on 100% of rooms, instead of just those they decided to make available to book.

You are flat out mistaken, but entitled to that opinion. ... George was treated like garbage by Cynthia and if he had any backbone he would have taken his talents to UNI or Busch or Marriott or a cruise line etc. He sold his soul to remain with the company, and honestly shouldn't have had any position after his performance in launching DCA. ... He still is the highest level manager/exec for the nation's largest single site employer. He can call Governor Voldemort on his cell phone and get him. But he will never say a **** thing that goes against his leadership and their goals. George is a GREAT operations guy and he **** well knew that NGE/MM+ was a tremendous waste of money and resources. He also knew it wouldn't do what it was supposed to do and would create far more headaches for his CMs. All he did was turn a blind eye so he could be WDW's leader. If that isn't selling a soul, I don't know what is really.

As to Andy, folks who are concerned with entertainment cuts might see things differently. But I wouldn't call either man a devil. I was, a long time ago, rather fond of both of them (far more George, to be fair). What I would call them is typical management in 21st century American corporate exec suites. I think it's time they took their millions and spent more time with family (perhaps, even with George's very troubled brother!)

Focusing on that last part, what makes you think that anyone else who would take over in George's spot would be able to do anything different. During my last 2 visits, you could tell a noticeable improvement in the CM interactions with guests, cleanliness and attraction maintenance. I'm not saying it is perfect by any means, but it is certainly a vast improvement from 3-4 years ago.

This may be a little off-topic but, @WDW1974, what are your thoughts on the health of frontline CMs? I swear there's an enormous amount of very obese CMs, I would think if you are walking around on your feet all day you would stay in relatively decent shape, what's being served in the cafeteria?

If I ran my household like so many companies operate, I could stop paying all my bills, claim my most profitable months in years with the saved money, then when threatened with eviction or utilities being turned off, pay only what's required whilst still not paying any maintenance or upgrades. I wonder how long that would last? :banghead:

LOL..Liked! No, Loved this post....Spot On.
