The Spirited Back Nine ...

If you were to ask a regular to Disneyland what they rate the worst land at the resort is, the majority would say A Bugs Land. It gets plenty of hate out west.

DHS needs those quality family rides, attractions that have been lacking since the beginning. However if they go ahead with this, it is the cheap and easy way out. Much of the criticism of this rumor stems from that sentiment. TDO had a choice to give Frozen the attraction or land it deserves. Instead they went the easy way and are overlaying an existing attraction. Meanwhile it appears Tokyo is going to do it right, how Orlando should have done it. Perhaps this is one small piece to a larger puzzle, but Disney has lost the confidence of many when it comes to Orlando. So it is easy to hear something like TSPL and immediately jump to conclusions and think, here we go again.

Disney has a chance to completely re-invent a Theme Park. If this comes to fruition TSPL is another example of the easy way out instead taking the challenge and being more creative. There are so many creative things they could do with the great IP’s they have. This is the Golden Age of Mediocrity and Disney is leading the charge.

Based on TDO's past performance if gate DOES NOT drop significantly TSPL and TSMM track 3 will be ALL we get, Not being a D&G'er here but just putting on my business hat.

TDO has dropped a couple expensive E ticket's (BLT and American Idol) and if they can replace it with 3 B tickets and a E ticket expansion and that creates the same revenue stream at a lower expense that is what TDO will do. These days TWDC is run by the numbers and numbers only.

DCA's 1.0 was dropping every year so the expansion was greenlit, DHS does not have that problem or did not pre-closures So TDO will build just enough to maintain revenues at historic norms, Yes there IS a large budget but there is no law saying TDO has to USE all of it. Sorry Fanboi's but that's reality.

I'm sorry but LMAO at American Idol Experience being labeled as an E-ticket! More like negative quadrouple F!

Ok, I have one question that may be obvious, but I don't know the answer:

Is Disneyland getting MM+ like WDW has, or will it stay the way it is? I hope it stays normal...
I have no inside connection that tells me this, but, in my opinion (and I've stated it before) Disney didn't spend that kind of coin to not use it wherever they can. It might differ in detail due to the differences in the parks, but, you can bet that once the bugs get sufficiently worked out, you will see it in every park that has their name on it.

Remember, Walt Disney World did not pay for this, the Disney Company did. They will use it to the max as soon as they feel it is ready. WDW was just the test park. I would think that they figured if they could make it work in a place as complex as the WDW resort, then they could make it work anywhere.

Anything is possible, but I'll trust the insiders who have collectively said the budget is huge and the project is significant. Plus TDO has nothing to do with this project until its finished and they are handed the keys to operate it.

Erm no, TDO gets to 'review' the budget and they have veto power over what gets built, Burbank CAN override a TDO veto but usually does not.

I agree with both of those points. The reason I brought it up was you had said the only way Disney was going to build anything was based on the numbers. There were much cheaper options to extend the operating hours of DAK. While I agree that they will always have numbers backing their decisions, they will take larger projects on from time to time.

Agree there are cheaper options but I don't think they looked sure fire to Burbank, That and Avatar being Iger's pet project it became inevitable. Plus the biolumenescent leaves just scream 'nighttime' attraction.

Random OT post (as I am wont to do): I received a survey from WDW today regarding my recent stay at AKL-KV. Interesting points included asking if I would prefer a walk-in shower with a bench, handheld shower attachment, and rainshower head to a traditional shower/tub combo (yes, please) and if I would be willing to forego a porch or balcony in order to have a dip pool or hot tub. Let me think about this for a moment: pool/hot tub time where I don't have to deal with the screaming, unwashed (and possibly un-potty trained) urchins of the masses? I couldn't say "yes" quickly enough!

Maybe I'm weird, but one of the few reasons I'd even consider paying deluxe resort prices is for the balcony. If you're going to have a real view - such as the AK savannah, or Bay Lake, etc. - you need someplace to relax and actually view it.

Still not worth the price, of course, but it is one of the amenities I miss most at the moderates and values.

Don't get me wrong; animal viewing from my balcony was absolutely one on my favorite parts of the trip. But imagine a Savannah view dip pool/hot tub. Yes, it would have to be on the ground floor, but I'm positive that my second-story balcony had a better view than those higher up. I was eye-to-eye with giraffes, as opposed to tree tops. So I'm thinking that while a ground floor view may not be ideal, the water feature option might not be too shabby!

I wonder if the survey wasn't so much referring to things you'd like to see at Animal Kingdom Lodge, so much as targeting Deluxe level guests to find out what they like in general when it comes to resorts?

Private dip tub, rain showers... sounds to me like they're sounding out the market for the Polynesian Pizza-Huts. My guess is the motivation of the survey is to help them decide whether they should offer those villas to non-DVC members or not, and to help them work out how much they can get away with charging people to stay in them.

I'm not necessarily sure I would like animals to look at me while I'm in A private hot tub...

Well when I think of deluxe top-of-the-line resorts… I do not think about Disney. I do not think about character breakfasts. I do not think about T-shirts and flip-flops in the lobby.

I think of luxury, dress codes, think Waldorf Astoria. Heck, I think 17th century Harris or the Romanovs in Russia before they were overthrown.

I think of true, high-end luxury. I think of Concerge, I think of being waited on hand and foot 24 hours a day.

And yes, that luxury includes a hot tub in my bathroom. It includes a king size bed and a giant television. Includes a balcony with a view.

Just sounds to me like through the magic of marketing and surveys, they are trying to redefine and quantify what luxury is.

Were you asked about how you wash your kids? I thought @WDW1974 reported about a survey that focussed on showers and such - and especially on how he preferred to wash his (non existent?) children...

I just checked out rates for a random week in February and was blown away. $4000 for a 7 nights at the Polynesian, $9000 for 7 nights in the Contemporary. It amazes me anyone can afford that. Surely at these kind of prices, over $1000 a night, it's only multi-millionaires staying in Deluxe resorts now? I guess when you have that kind of spare cash to splash around, you can dress however you please!
