I'll preface this by stating I have never done an RCI trade, so I don't really know anything about trading other than the $95 fee.

So taking what you said, does that mean that an RCI trade is for an actual room? My impression was that if you traded RCI points, for DVC, you used them as any other owner would. Wouldn't availability be the same for everyone?

Back to the thread topic - I agree that they are definitely playing with the numbers when it comes to reallocating rooms to DVC. Makes sense for bottom line numbers, but does it really change reality?

Yes, from my limited knowledge, when you trade in through RCI you are getting an actual room not the points. When I say an actual room I mean a 1 bedroom villa for a specific week at a specific resort not specifically room 321. As a DVC owner I trade in points to RCI. How and when RCI/DVC converts my points to a room and decides which week or room to list in RCI inventory is a mystery to me.

What the other poster that I responded to was saying is that he thinks Disney might be playing with the numbers because if he logs into his DVC owner account he sees no availability for a particular room on a particular date but if he looks through RCI he sees availability for RCI exchange (at a $95 fee). This is possible because owners have exchanged points out of DVC through RCI. The more popular exchanging out becomes the more inventory RCI will have. It's been my past experience that the available inventory through RCI to trade into DVC was very small and hard to get. If it's getting easier that probably means more owners are trading out of WDW.

I think the fact that you are seeing DVC rooms available through RCI is more a symptom of owners trading out of WDW rather than Disney playing with numbers. As more owners trade their points in through RCI more will be available for non-DVC owners to trade into WDW. It wasn't too long ago that trading into a DVC room via RCI was really hard to do. Availability was always seriously limited.
sorry for bursting in, but what RCI means in this conversation?

Nice! Though clearly I was WAY OFF throwing the 'Tangaroa Terrace' around... after seeing both plans, while it's hard to tell... it doesn't look as if that bar/grill elevation was for the East Pool area... Classic Fan-girl.

The plan seems to show a redesign of the existing 'pool' to Zero Entry with pop jets similar to what was done with the GF's courtyard pool as well as a new spa... and the addition of what looks to be a bath house and bar/grill area?

Interesting...

If the Main Pool site plan happens to find it's way on this page... I think that would be ok too. In another week we'll be up to 125 pages... no one will catch it on 111 ;)
Actually, both of those images are for the east pool area, soon to be named the Lounge Pool (according to the plans).
The new pool is sort of perpendicular to where the old one was, and the bar/pump building sits across the old pool site. (The two square sections with the peaked canopy in between.)
The building at the top is Hawaii.

As for the main pool....I'm working on getting something...

RCI is a timeshare exchange service. Essentially a third party company which for a fee facilitates timeshare owners trading in their timeshare "weeks" for a "week" at a different resort. DVC uses RCI as the primary source for trading DVC points outside of the Disney system. If you are a DVC owner you can trade in points for a stay at hundreds (or maybe thousands) of RCI timeshare resorts worldwide. When you trade your points in to RCI some other timeshare owner associated with RCI can then trade into a DVC resort.

Thanks for explaining that!

It will be interesting to see how trading will increase or decrease with the proposed dvc expansions. Hopefully, there will not be too much of an increase so that dvc owners will have more availability.

And I thought I saw WL expansion plans somewhere a while ago... What I saw might have been old though. I'll try to find them, if they still exist

I know that I saw FW DVC plans at some point. They looked pretty "official" but, now all I can find are other people's renderings of those drawings. Guess I should learn to start saving images! Something was definitely out there because there are pages that state "image no longer available" etc. Sorry for the earlier tease!!

I think you are talking about the River Country DVC plans. I think that's on hold or cancelled. The WL DVC expansion is actually converting hotel rooms at WL to DVC rooms. Similar to Poly.

I believe these come from one of the design submissions for the River Country project.

Me too! I guess I thought of it as WL/FW in my head when I looked at them. Well, mystery solved - sorry for any confusion.

I wish they were building that version. The plans actually look pretty cool. RC is just rotting anyway and while there may be some issues with the size and scope of the project overwhelming the existing camp ground it is still a better option to me. Instead signs point to just converting hotel rooms at WL to DVC:(.

I've been trying to read through/skim the 112 pages, so forgive me if I missed the outcome of CBR gaining DVC (I see it as a gain, but I'm all in with DVC) or not.

Are these plans in progress or are they sidelined (aka lost forever) like RC?

Was the value of points discussed? Feel free to point me to a page number ;)

Well, just added a 35th like to the post, even though I hate what you are saying. I just know it to be true.

A teflon, soulless cretin like Bob Iger is exactly CEO of the Year material to Wall Street because Wall Street is all about today and tomorrow, not next month, next year or a decade from now.

I am a capitalist through and through, but what we have today is in no way the system that I grew up admiring. It's some horrible bizarro bastardized version where only the top of the top benefits (and breaks and makes laws all the way to do so!)

i know this is a really old post but I just wanted to comment on it because of the truth it speaks. You are very right that this is not the capitalism you grew up admiring because it is not capitalism at all. We are all fortunate (sarcasm on) to have lived during a time that our country has graduated from capitalism and moved onto the wonderful world of crony capitalism. Lucky us!!! The capitalism in crony capitalism is of course misnomer because it is not capitalism at all, it is fascism (mussolini form of fascism not the nazi nationalist socialist version).
