I'll preface this by stating I have never done an RCI trade, so I don't really know anything about trading other than the $95 fee.
So taking what you said, does that mean that an RCI trade is for an actual room? My impression was that if you traded RCI points, for DVC, you used them as any other owner would. Wouldn't availability be the same for everyone?
Back to the thread topic - I agree that they are definitely playing with the numbers when it comes to reallocating rooms to DVC. Makes sense for bottom line numbers, but does it really change reality?
Yes, from my limited knowledge, when you trade in through RCI you are getting an actual room not the points. When I say an actual room I mean a 1 bedroom villa for a specific week at a specific resort not specifically room 321. As a DVC owner I trade in points to RCI. How and when RCI/DVC converts my points to a room and decides which week or room to list in RCI inventory is a mystery to me.
What the other poster that I responded to was saying is that he thinks Disney might be playing with the numbers because if he logs into his DVC owner account he sees no availability for a particular room on a particular date but if he looks through RCI he sees availability for RCI exchange (at a $95 fee). This is possible because owners have exchanged points out of DVC through RCI. The more popular exchanging out becomes the more inventory RCI will have. It's been my past experience that the available inventory through RCI to trade into DVC was very small and hard to get. If it's getting easier that probably means more owners are trading out of WDW.
