The Sorcerer's Apprentice Season 8: Magic Journeys

Are you sure they just aren’t blank slides? Tiki said he wasn’t able to quite finish everything and there a a couple slides with headers and no content, purposefully.
Oh, I must have skipped that, so in conclusion, it was because he didn’t have enough time? So like in some parts of the project, slide 4 didn’t have an image. Man, thanks for telling me that. That helped a lot.

No problem! Tiki's on vacation right now so some of his presentation was unfortunately unfinished. I think that's what you're seeing. Everything that looks like it should be there is on my end.

Park Lore just dropped a Modern Marvels article about Nexus Expo’s Mathmagic Land pavilion, which is quite in-depth. Could really help us with our projects. Check it out!

There’s even music to accompany the article.

BROUGHT TO YOU BY HUUUUUUULK!

Well, the Gorillaz E Ticket is partly unfinished due to not being able to figure out how to edit slides on my phone #TechBoomer. This definitely isn't my strongest work but I'm proud of the overall concept and needed to turn something in. So...here it is I guess. Let me know if you can actually view it.

an Earlie the Pearlie presentation

Nothing in our interconnected universe exists alone. Every idea, every fact, all are contained within an infinite and intertwined web of knowledge. Everything you could ever need to know is stored in a dynamic, evolving, and immense whole, as old, and as young, as humanity itself. The collective knowledge of our species has now evolved into what we call…

Alright friends, here it is.

Unfortunately life got in the way for me a lot this week and I was unable to finish all the planned concept art I was going to create. Nonetheless, I’m happy with my pavilion overall and I hope you all enjoy it as well.

I haven’t read the other projects yet but @Pi on my Cake if you didn’t do an updated Food Rocks staring Tater Swift, I’m gonna be mildly disappointed.
I was leaning towards Olive Rodrigo ;)

Couldn't think of an angle for a new Food Rocks that wasn't "Food Rocks, but with new artists" or "fan service cameo somewhere" so I didn't use them. But went back and forth a LOT about that cuz I loved them as a kid lol

@ThemeParkPriest - The Sleep Pavilion

While you did have to submit early due to real world obligations, I really appreciate the thought that went behind this pavilion - it's not to be 'slept' on!

The Sleep Pavilion to me felt like a combination of the Wonders of Life Pavilion and the Imagination Pavilion. The attraction World Changing Dreams was such an eclectic ride through various dream scenarios that it fit the Epcot mold of being both an education and an entertaining experience. The contrast between the scenes from real to film to fantasy and everything in between encapsulates what it's meant to have a dream. Sleep is also a large component of our health, and the sleep pods would be such a unique experience in a theme park to take a quick 20 minute nap. And the artwork with the eyelid closing would be quite the modern marvel of engineering and be a unique attraction spot for guests as they peruse through Nexus Expo.

@OSUPhantom - The Art Pavilion

I love the inverse Universe of Energy design to this pavilion. The artistic vanishing point was also *chief's kiss* to the design of the pavilion - which was brilliantly laid out. I love the map of the pavilion as well and the myriad of activities and attractions that it provides.

The MMRR 2.5 D technology I think is a great choice for the headline attraction in an Art Pavilion, as that feels like a great way of showcasing your projections in a way that feels like an art exhibit. Including characters like Daisy Duck as well as others from the fab 5 is also a way of keeping with the times in including well-known Disney influences into the pavilions. The Iwerks Exhibition hall I think was a great start to the setting for the attraction. The scenes themselves as you travel through the trackless experience were very well written. I also like how the vehicles themselves are more like the painting frames, keeping the design to a minimum to make the scenes the start of the attraction. Goofy as The Scream sounds like such a great showcase of edutainment. The entire ride was a joy to read, it feels like it was very fun for you to write these characters into all these famous pieces of artwork and it definitely shows.

Moving on to da Vinci's dreams, the omnimover dark ride felt like it was a classic Epcot style dark ride, focusing on the man himself and all of his works throughout his life. I am a big da Vinci fan having done an attraction or two on him in the past, so I very much enjoyed this one as well. World of Architecture as a walk-through attraction carries forward the same art exhibit type of vibe to this pavilion that works very well as a compliment to the other two attractions. Artist's Palette was a great dining option as well. The Roasted Steak with a Chili Reduction over Sweet Potato Risotto -- wow sounds amazing. And lastly, the Studio felt like an upgraded version of a kidcot fun spot, where you could let your artistic prowess shine through. Thank you OSU for a great season and great job with the finale pavilion!

@Mr. Sullivan - Tora Biodome

Terrestrial Oceanic Research Association Biodome! That's quite the name. I love the layout of this project. From the Westernland and Muppet Broadway tags, to the Disneyland style website design. Really great job. And the map and images offer a good perspective as to the layout and feel of the pavilion (or biodome). I like how this pavilion incorporates concepts from both the Living Seas and The Land pavilion in ways, but also makes it feel like its own thing. Similar to both of those pavilions - this one incorporates real world research and being in Brazil, with the Atlantic Ocean and the Amazon close by, logistically this makes a ton of sense.

The description of the Biodome feels like it took inspiration from the Singapore airport which is great continuity with the prompt inspiration. I also love multi-level pavilions, especially when you enter the pavilion from a higher level and get that surprise when there are levels underneath to explore, similar to The Land pavilion at EPCOT.

I love the quaint boatride and all the green spaces throughout this pavilion - I think it offers a more intimate setting and more lush than something you'd expect at an expo where it is more corporate in nature. The Soil and Bacteria labs also were great compliments to the pavilion as they showcase the true R&D at work. The butterfly house and the sensory experience of Beautiful Rain incorporate other elements of land and sea. The butterflies remind me of the flower and garden festival butterfly walkthrough, and while a weather pavilion was always a blue sky idea for Epcot, I really like how it is integrated into this experience. The Reef being inspired by the Georgia Aquarium (which I did not know until now is the largest in the US) was such a unique idea! Getting to the two main attractions, both compliment each other very well. The Great Green Tomorrow feels like a combo of Carousel of Progress, Horizons, with Universe of Energy, and mildly Test Track, all wrapped into one amazing attraction. Poseidon One, developing an original ride system, was also a delight. Almost like a 20K sequel, but focused on realism, this was something that put your imagineering talents on display.

The note at the end was also very touching. I am so glad you had such a great experience and made all of these new friends in the game. Thanks for everything you have done to make this season special!

@D Hulk - Mathmagic Land

Your calculations were correct with this pavilion - had the perfect equation! Okay, enough math puns for now, but sincerely this was one of the bigger surprise pavilions of the bunch. Mainly because -- how can one make math fun in a theme park? And you found a way with this pavilion. Dense yet expansive, from the concept art of the pavilion facade, to the maps, and the park lore presentation style, I really love everything about this.

The seashell appearance of the building as well as the geometric focus really leads you down a path into a completely new Epcot-y experience never before seen (probably for the best given Hulk's distain of Epcot lol) The Grand Spiral along with the Symme-tree plaza and the GeomeTree Gardens splash pad full of arcing, playful fountains. adds more greenery and architectural prowess to the pavilion, exactly what inspired the prompt! The Alice in Wonderland effect of the gardens would be quite the visual spectacle.

In a math pavilion - it makes sense to have a roller coaster that combines math and physics together. A kiddie coaster though was a surprise, given your knack for developing sensational roller-coasters that bend physics and minds alike. That said, I do appreciate the variety that this park will offer guests. Love the infinity design of the helix at the end.

Pi on my cake's Decimal Dining was a delight. Golden Spiral Cantina, “Where 7 8 9!” this place is just full of puns. I really like the dining options. They were described and executed very well to compliment the rest of the pavilion. Walt Disney’s 1959 edutainment classic “Donald in Mathmagic Land” served as the inspiration behind the pavilion's dark ride. While the theme was math, this definitely wasn't a 'by the numbers' dark ride - incorporating many different elements together in this multi-story journey. Very well written as always by Hulk, especially the ending that quoted Galileo “Mathematics is the language with which God has written the universe.” Overall, this was a welcome surprise and one that is a wonderful aspect of this stand-out team park.

@TheOriginalTiki - World Music

A music pavilion is one also similar to math that I was interested to see when the original designs were being laid out for the park, as it would be something unique from typical Epcot pavilions. This lived up to expectations and more as a unique take on music and the culture of music laid into one. The description for the pavilion was well written. And the drawings as well as the various portrayals to further describe the layout of the pavilion were easy to understand. As mentioned throughout the season, I am someone who loves when people try new things. It's the effort that counts for me and a lot of effort went into this project as is readily apparent.

It's funny how Donald Duck is so popular in this park - perhaps it's the Brazil influence, but we have Math and Musicland Donald in this park which is pretty cool. In the Hall of the Mountain King would be a unique Mack spinner coaster, added another coaster to the park which already elevates things for me. Continuing on, while I'm not the world's biggest Gorilliaz fan, I do appreciate a great attraction and this was just that. I could feel the passion behind this one with each passing slide which is what this game is all about - doing what you are passionate about to the best of your ability and having the platform to accomplish it. The Black Parade Processional and the Daft Punk CosmicTorium would both add two unique venues to this park, offering entertainment value beyond what one would come to expect from an Epcot style park. Overall, this was one of the more unique pavilions in Nexus Expo and definitely stood out with its passion for the subject matter and dedication to the craft and originality of the concept.

Really appreciate the kind words Space. I know I haven't been the easiest to deal with this season. My issues yesterday were 100 percent frustration with not being able to finish the Gorillaz E Ticket and zero percent anything to do with your judging. I'm mostly just frustrated that I didn't go with a forum post. I feel like trying to navigate the Slides caused my writing to be way less detailed than I wanted it to be, and of course the "incomplete" element was a HUGE blow to my perfectionism. Glad you liked it 🙂

@Earlie the Pearlie - The Miracles of the Digital World

This was probably the definition of a passion project through and through! Being an EPCOT fan yourself this felt right at home for you, I would have been shocked if you picked something that wasn't computer based haha. So with the stage set you took it and ran. Your improvement in the art department over the course of this season was something that was so impressive to see. Especially in these last few rounds, you really tried to do something new with each project. This is no different as your façade is so well done. Our Friend the Computer is such a love letter to old Epcot that it truly was a pleasure to read. While it also felt like a classic, your touches of modernization were noted as well making the whole experience that much better. Secondly, the Computer Central post-show and all the creative characters was so well put together. Lastly the Computer Cafe feels like such a fun way to dine, would be great for the whole family.

I also sincerely appreciate the supplemental information with how this project came to be and some of the decision making behind it. I am so glad that you were able to enjoy all that this season had to offer. I cannot wait to see what you do in the community for many more games and projects to come!

@JokersWild - The Story Source

Before getting into the project, this season truly was a breakout one in terms of creativity for Jokers. That sounds so strange to say considering they are one the longest playing imagineers on the forum, but in the past, they were more known for their writing ability. As the years went on they incorporated more music and a digital media footprint, but this season really stepped up into the art and design department, as well as enhanced presentation styles, inspiring others to do the same as well. With that said, the Story Source feels almost like the Nexus of Nexus Expo. It's the hub of all the themes and inspirations behind the pavilions - which is the quintessential component of imagineering - to tell a story.

From the custom model of the pavilion, to the comic book presentation style, to the artwork and design of the pavilion, everything here was so top notch. From the Planetarium, to the Library, to the Ancient Observatory - in a way this felt like a full circle project stemming all the way back from the Worlds of Wonder park in Book I of this season. The Storytellers was a great Epcot style dark ride and the music that went along with it paved the way for the rest of the 'story' of Nexus Expo to take shape. I really liked everything about this project from the color scheme to the layout. It's a smaller and more quaint pavilion but it also should be that way similar to how Spaceship Earth is the icon of the park but holds a smaller footprint than most of the other adjacent pavilions. All in all incredible work on both this project and the season as a whole.

@Pi on my Cake - The Feast of Wonders

Love the theme of this pavilion - it takes concepts of the Land pavilion, in particular food, but turns them into a celebration of food, including both holidays and family get togethers, for which families visiting Disneyland Brazil will almost certainly relate to.

The Copper Cornucopia design of the facade that leads guests into the pavilion was an great choice. And the map detailing the interior of the pavilion gives a great guest perspective of how they would tackle the pavilion throughout their stay. The Gardens of Growth as you enter the pavilion offer a unique indoor/outdoor vibe to the pavilion as well. Bountiful Valley Farms is a nice homage to DCA . Naturally in a food themed pavilion - one of the things that will be readily available? Food! And there's a lot here for that, in particular with the various food stands throughout the pavilion. And the open lobby design as a metaphor of how food and cuisine connects us all was very well done.

Anyone can cook as an epcot style travelogue was great, brings together both the themes of the pavilion with also some variety of Disney IPs, even some recently purchased ones, to infuse some novelty to the project. The Cooking with Character B ticket experience is a neat way of including characters like Princess Tiana and others in a cooking style show. The Feast of Wonders seasonal food booths offered a variety of food items that seem to change with the season.

Dine Together - Character dining mixes French and Cajun cuisine together which I'm sure will be popular with the local crowd. And the D ticket dark ride - Baking Wonders was one of the most unique dark rides I think I have ever read on the forums. It reminded me of the cereal dark ride from Season 14 of SYWTBAI. Very well done and really served as a stand out dark ride amongst many other incredible rides in Nexus Expo.

All in all, it was a pleasure reading this unique pavilion and as always Pi brought his A game to this season and was an incredible role model and contributor throughout the entirety of Season 8

@Tegan pilots a chicken - Transportation Pavilion

This was one of the earliest pavilions chosen as more of a passion project of transportation. And while the full-fledged pavilion concept art may not have been able to be completed, the passion, and talent behind the design of the pavilion remained on display. This was a wonderful concept that infused your own ideas for Epcot with some of the ideas of old and nuanced concepts for Nexus Expo.

From the top I think you the design of this pavilion is so colorful and unique compared to previous iterations of the transportation themed pavilions at Epcot. I really like the ramped perspective and the off-tilt 360 degree design of the show building. The World on Wheels was a wonderful omnimover ride through the history of automobiles. I really love that this is the premiere attraction and that the Senna Grand Prix, while also a pseudo-thrill ride, acts as a complement to the pavilion as a whole. A subtle touch but I also think that the speed calculator in the metric system was a great touch given we are in Brazil.

The dark ride is so well written and while I'm sure the visuals would have complemented it even further, the details described were enough for me to play it over again in my head to see the layout of the attraction. The Electric Highway as a kiddie-type attraction was also a nice touch as this pavilion's kinetic energy is off the charts, with many things in motion as you enter and exit the pavilion. The quick service area themed to a 1950s diner I think will become a fan favorite.

Overall, the last few books of the season, you really stepped up and were a true leader of the teams you were on, and this project was definitely a passion project that while perhaps leaving some things on the table, left enough of an inspiration to be considered one of the best of Nexus Expo.
