Question of the Day
What is your favorite unbuilt Disney parks concept?
Discovery Bay!!

This would’ve been a marvel of imagineering spectacle and, in my opinion, would’ve occupied that certain space better than Galaxy’s Edge does as Discovery Bay ties into the Frontierland storyline. My dude, Tony Baxter, really created the land that got away. Curse you, budget cuts!

Finally, someone said the correct answer!!

Thunder Mesa/Western River Expedition

Having a spiritual successor to Pirates along with two other rides in this facility would've made this one of the greatest expansion that Disney would've ever undertaken. The tabletop mountains would've been beautiful to see from across the waterfront near the HM.

Also the UFO show scene for Disneyland's Railroad. It would've by far turn the worst stretch of the DLR into one of the best.

Mine is more "out there" than most but I have always been interested in all the concepts that were tossed aside for YOUR Imagination. From the trip into a child's or celebrity's mind, a rumored indoor coaster, cut scenes like the infinite staircase that were reused for WDW's Haunted Mansion, and a Flubber ride, part of me wonders if these ideas would have turned out better or somehow worse than what we ended up getting.

Going off @Tegan pilots a chicken’s direction, I’m going to say the original Phantom Manor. The ride is still present today, but the story tone and direction post-refurbishment has changed dramatically. I admire what they did with the technological updates inside the Manor, but the tinkering of the overall storyline still irks me to this day. Huh, here’s a thought: maybe I can do a refurb AU for Phantom Manor for the new year...

Of the unbuilt ideas (attractions or otherwise), I’m going to say majority of the planned attractions for World Showcase. The Mount Fuji coaster for the Japan pavilion is quite intriguing given the Matterhorn treatment (encounter with a Godzilla-like creature as you go through the mountain), while the Russia pavilion would’ve looked spectacular especially with St. Basil’s as the weenie point.

It used to always be Western River Expedition. And that's still a close second! But when I was researching Discovery Bay for my video on it I was really won over and adored the concepts and the storytelling of it. Definitely has become my new favorite unbuilt concept. Especially the Prof Marvel show cuz Im a sucker for animatronic heavy carousel shows lol

Wasn't it Disneyland Paris' failure the cause of Eisner becoming averse to spending a lot of money on projects for the parks, which in turn was the result of Beastly Kingdom being cancelled? Or am I mistaken?
IIRC, it's because out of the two projects planned (Beastly and Dino), Eisner was more interested in the Dino one, budget also had part to play in this, but I forgot if the Paris failure had anything to do with that. I also wouldn't be surprised if Eisner chose Dino because Universal had the very successful Jurrassic Park plus themed land.

Continuing with our spotlights for the SA cast we have @Tegan pilots a chicken - I'm really excited to see Tegan return, the last thing I remembered was the Twist in Time challenges and the Disney Animation Resort - it was such a great art style that really stuck out to me, hope to see more of that!

If you want to check out the project here it is!

@Pufflefan is returning as well after a great performance in Season 6 - impressing many with their restaurant prowess. In addition thought, a thread to check out is Puff's Ireland concept as well!

@montydysquith-navarro stepped onto the stage with SYWTBAI Season 18 and made a name for himself for his brilliant brainstorming and being a great teammate. Recently, monty took up hosting Disney Jeopardy - a trivia game how we had on last month here on the forum!

From what I've heard, Paris' failure did play a part in the budget.

This was a very minuscule reason to it.

The main reasons were that Animal Kingdom was insanely over budget and so they could only build one of Beastly Kingdom and Dinoland. Between Jurassic Park doing so well and Disney’s future Dinosaur movie, Dinoland made more financial sense (it still faced massive cuts) with Beastly Kingdom being the plan for the first expansion.

Animal Kingdom did so well at opening it was taking away 2-3x the number of guests from the other three parks than predicted so suddenly all the parks budget was being focused to the other parks (Winnie The Pooh, Mission: SPACE, etc.)

This pushed Beastly Kingdom back a while. It’s main hope lasted on Islands of Adventure. If it did so well for Universal it pulled guests away from Disney, they’d have no choice but to find the funds for Beastly Kingdom, Fire Mountain, and more.

Instead; Islands of Adventure didn’t do too strong at the start but then also had The Lost Continent which was just a different look at Beastly Kingdom effectively killing Beastly Kingdom and forcing that land to use a new idea.
