If we’re criticizing The Lion King, we’re talking about Simba’s lack of development till the third act and lack of likability the entire film, Nala not getting anything to do in the climax, Timon and Pumba’s uselessness, the extremely overrated music (Circle of Life aside, as I’ve said it’s one of the greatest openings in cinema history), Scar’s queercodedness, there are so many more original complaints than the whole Kimba thing

I give him a pass since he has done more positive reviews and analysis too (They just aren't as popular) and his videos are done in a very comedic way where they aren't meant to be taken super seriously.

Yes, I will agree his reviews of early films are well worth-watching, but it's only when he treads in more recent water that he becomes a full-on edgelord. I mean, as soon as I saw that he uploaded his "Captain Marvel is Painfully Average" video, my first thought was literally "Oh, of course he didn't like it!" He hated The Last Jedi, so of course he wouldn't be a fan of Captain Marvel. I don't mean to get political, but his Twitter feed reveals that he does have a trace of right-wing beliefs about him...

I remember when he was a YouTube-pooper and not a wannabe critic.

Is it just me, or does watching his review videos make him seem pompous and self-righteous?

If I may open the "Fridge" for a quick second here, here's what someone on TV Tropes said about Simba's "lack of development", and why it's not such a big deal as people say it is:

"After watching Doug Walker's Disneycember review of The Lion King, I thought his conclusion made a lot of sense: that the film delivers a Broken Aesop about facing the pain of your past because it turns out Simba simply never did the thing he was trying to put behind him — instead of him learning how to deal with a painful past or guilt, he learns it never applied to him. It made so much sense, in fact, that I wondered why I never thought that as a kid because, when you're a kid, nothing annoys you more than a story that chickens out at the last minute like that. At the last minute... That's when I realized why I never saw such a Broken Aesop myself: because we the audience know the entire time that Simba didn't really cause his father's death! If we'd been led, like Simba, the entire movie to think he really had to face the pain of being responsible for Mufasa's death, suddenly revealing, "Hah, gotcha! That doesn't even apply here!" at the end would have been cheap. We know from the start, however, that Simba is not responsible for what he feels guilty for and, thus, don't spend the movie sympathizing with him and hoping he'll overcome the guilt but spend it waiting for him to learn and escape from the burden he never needed to carry. The plot didn't chicken out, it just unfolded the inevitable way it should."

Someone even expanded upon this thusly: "Another factor that makes it work: Mufasa's ghost could easily have told Simba that it was Scar who killed him, but he doesn't. Neither does Rafiki. Simba makes the decision to go back, challenge Scar and take his place as king despite the fact that he still blames himself for his father's death. The reveal that he's not to blame after all only comes after he learns the essential Aesop. This, combined with the fact that we know it was Scar all along, is what keeps it from feeling like a copout."

I didn't even know that word even existed before today. What does it mean? I get nothing on Google, dictionary.com, Urban Dictionary, nothing, zero, zilch.
Implying a character lies on the LGBT+ area of sexuality without actually coming out and saying it with attitude and demeanor and camp, often applied to a villain to lighten their character.

We’re gonna edumacate all y’all

Ok that doesn’t take away from Simba being just obnoxious and annoying the entire movie so...

I can't speak to his Twitter and I don't watch him super regularly, but isn't "Captain Marvel is a rather average movie overall, especially compared to Marvel standards" and "The Last Jedi was deeply flawed in many ways" pretty common opinions? It pretty much about what everyone I've talked about the movies with says.

In happier positive movie opionion news stuff:

Missing Link is good! The animation is astounding! There's a fight scene on a boat that is jaw droppingly stunning. The writing, like with most Laika movies, isn't the best with a lot the dialogue just having the characters explain to each other the arcs they're going through or the point the filmmakers are trying to make rather than it being done organically or interestingly. BUT I don't care. Because who goes to a Laika movie for the writing?

Gorgeous stop motion animation and direction and visual design coupled with fun characters and a unique style.

I think that's the problem though, people will repeat what others say without seeing the movie. There's quite a bit of movies that are disliked that I like, such as the OG Mario movie and illumination's stuff (yes including Minions..)

It's a problem on this site too, people are angry about park decisions before seeing/riding those decisions.

But I'm getting tangenty.

Well, the reason why I said such things of him is because of the fact that his 2018 April Fools video was of him praising The Last Jedi, and said video began like this:

"Star Wars: The Last Jedi is a brilliant movie. And if you disagree, you're a sexist, misogynistic, woman-hating, sexist, racist pig who hates women."

And it certainly doesn't help matters that he outright admitted on Twitter that he said that solely to anger the "SJWs". Is that not the sign of an edgelord?

EDIT: Added a link to said tweet.

I haven't followed him as closely you to see that side I guess.

Though that tweet seems to be saying the opposite. That he put a line in the video about sjws to see if edgelords would get mad at him just for mentioning that. Which is still dumb though.

But again, I don't follow him closely. He's seemed to make pretty decent and we'll thought out points in his analysis videos to me. And mostly does it in a tongue in cheek way rather than the "take me serious" attitude you get from people like Movie Bob and Nostalgia Critic. Though I might not feel that way if I had seen more than 5 or 6 of his videos.

I thought coraline was written well, but I get your point.
It being based on a book could have helped though.

Coraline is definitely the exception. Iove that one! And I wouldn't say that the writing in their movies are bad or anything like that. But the writing just tends to be the weakest parts of the movies and I think that if the same script weren't animated and directed so beautifully they'd just be seen as average kids films.

Also, Shazam lived up to the hype. Fwlt like Gaurdians of the Galaxy in how it balance genuine drama with zany, wacky comedy. Adored the movie.

It's not perfect, like I would've loved more time spent with the foster family earlier on in the movie showing him growing closer. And the villain's story could have taken up a bit less time. (very very minor spoilers)

But those are minor complaints in an otherwise amazing movie. Easily best DC film since Dark Knight.
