This is the first time I've seen a negative Pi review, so I know it's serious. So, saw Dumbo today. Actually left without seeing all of it (I have AMC Stubs, so I didn't pay for the movie). Worst film I've seen in a while. Soulless husk of a film that doesn't stand on its own apart from the original nor does it feel like a modern take on the original. Too depressing and dark to be fun. Too goofy and dumb to be taken serious. It's baffling that this was made by the same person who made Big Fish which told an emotionally complex and dark story in such a whimsical and fun fashion. Easily my least favorite live action Disney adaptation I've seen.
It could be partly because I went in expecting Big Fish and got this. Big Fish is easily my favorite Burton movie and one of my favorite movies (even has Danny Devito as a circus ringmaster just like Dumbo), and the trailers made me think this would be like that. This is the first time I've seen a negative Pi review, so I know it's serious.
(well besides the little mermaid ride and some disney snes games)
It could also get better as it goes. I saw about 50 minutes, so I thought I had a good handle on it. But after the "Baby Mine" scene had me feeling less emotions than the trailer for Angry birds 2 (and you don't have to try hard for "Baby Mine" to make me feel emotions, lost my father when I was young and Dumbo was one of his favorite Disney movies. I'm a sucker for that song), I decided to tap out. This is the first time I've seen a negative Pi review, so I know it's serious.

should be seeing Shazam later this week though, and from what I've heard that one is phenomenal!
You didn't miss anything, Pi my guy, Dumburton only gets worse as it goes on and they completely run out of material to ransack from the original. (I love Stubs!) The only value in the second half is the production design of a fictionalized Coney Island, which appeals solely to the theme park nerd within me (I'm a theme park nerd, guys). The characters, story and emotions all fall flat. (For what it's worth, my favorite Burton flick is Mars Attacks!)It could also get better as it goes. Personally, I thought Maleficent worked as a decent enough B-Movie if it was taken on its own and not compared to Sleeping Beauty. It has some value.I haven't seen Dumbo yet. But, I still believe that it can't be any worse of an insult to the original than Maleficent or Beauty and the Beast. To me, those two are the worst of the live-action remakes thus far, because of how much they seem to spit on the original story. (And in the latter's case, try to appeal to the CinemaSins crowd by needlessly fixing plot holes, which only creates bigger plot holes.)
I agree, rogue one was super boring. Just couldn't really sympathize with anyone.Of course, opinions are subjective. I thought that Crimes of Grindlewald was an improvement over the first fantastic beasts movie and the Rogue One was boring. My opinions may be off lol
Dumbo was too reliant on the original for the plot to work without being way too dumb if you don't know the plot alreayd so it can't to stand on its own, but it is too different from the original to work well as fan service because it really isn't a movie about Dumbo.
I might, but I won't pay for it, because I'm evil like that.Well, I'm not going to waste my time seeing the Dumbo remake. It is obviously a cheap, dull, lifeless, soulless cash grab, wasting Tim Burton's talents, hired kids who can't act, and stretched out the story's motions to make it hollow, as interesting as elephant dung, and pushing an "no circus animals" agenda upon a film SET IN THE 1910s!
