The Sorcerer's Apprentice - Season 3 - Discussion Thread

I noticed a bit of an inconsistency in how the additions that weren't part of the ride were reviewed.
The difference in my mind was Donald put far more emphasis on multiple different IPs and had the support while Mickey put more effort into the ride and there was almost nothing to support seseme street. Finding faults this week was like pulling teeth so don't think to hard on anything.

Damn I would love to do that!
Honestly, one trip in October I stayed on for at least 5 straight times without having to get off. The cast members were so cool about it too, even when there was like a few people in the line, they'd let me stay. When I wanted to get off, they told me I had to do it one more time, one more time, so I had to do it again! It was definitely a good night. :p

It honestly sounds like so much fun!

One Little Spark...
Team Mickey - You are up first!

So, stream of consciousness review, as usual...

Why no unique Logo? I think you were the only team that didn't have one? It's neat to see that old one, but?...

FANTASTIC RIDE LOGO! Whomever did that deserves a pat on the back.

They built it but they lost it...er...

I like amok...amok amok amok. They've run amok.

How can you have an absence for something that never existed? I suppose I'll find out?

Ok, weak opening paragraph, frankly. It did a good job of setting up some suspense, but didn't really do much else.

Sesame Street...moving on...

I wish you had put more thought into purchasing IPs, but as I stated after the Tintin thing last year, as long as it is addressed, it it addressed. I just with you had addressed it with more thoughtfulness than "JDM said it was ok"...

Come on, you guys could have come up with a better story than that! JDM isn't on the board of directors, even though he is to us.

I really don't like the angle you take here. First you defend your property rights, then you defend it more by saying you "focused on creating an attraction"...well, but? But? I have nothing against World Building. It could have been worded better though, and this sort of thing early on distracts from the focus, which is your ride.

Yeah, similar take on San Fran street.

Why "highly trained" instead of descriptions of what will happen? This is one where you succeeded in having a good world build, but lost it with the descriptions. My opine of course.

"A meet and greet like no other" you say? But then do nothing with it, even a sentence or two.

I get where you all are going, and I agree (obviously, our team did something VERY similar, so of course we agree)....that said...

1) Why the whole extension on the map into NYC street and over to the GMR backstage? Was there a purpose?

2) How is Sweetums related to Big Bird in any real way (yes, the elders among us....which is me and those who can use youtube...know that Sweetums was a regular on Sesame Street for a VERY short while...but...most people don't. What do you all have to offer?

That said, whomever did the map, I really liked it a lot! The Kermit "compass" was neat. The rest of it was ok...but rather bland.

Lets get into the ride, shall we?

First, that outline pic is fantastic.

Let me state that again...that outline pic is fantastic.

The queue is in such detail, but the rest is not. Did you run out of time?

It also confused me that your ride is 2 levels? At least that is what I'm thinking now? Some text would have helped.

And, for such a detailed queue, the rest of the ride is missing something...(one or the other, if you will)

<posting now and moving on to the video>

VIDEO WITH NO MUSIC?

You had me checking my aux ports.

I didn't get anything from this video, and while I'm sure it took a lot of work, I'm not sure what it brought to the final presentation?

It was well animated, but it wasn't really something that made me understand it...narration or music would have helped.

"Since much of this attraction consists of “parody” Disney ride scenes, we needed a ride system that would be fluid in order to fit the style of each of the original Disney attractions."

I love and hate this.

I love it because you guys had a great idea. I hate it because you didn't explain it until now. THIS should have been in your opening, not some cryptic ridethrough video.

"For that reason, we chose to make this a trackless dark ride."

Not imaginative...but can be done well, lets see what you do?

My second favorite part about @englanddg's reviews is responding to them. Here goes:

A decision I made. We're calling ourself the Mickey Mouse Club.
FANTASTIC RIDE LOGO! Whomever did that deserves a pat on the back.
Muchas gracias.

Hey... it's the Muppets.

We barely spent time on any of that because the challenge was about the ATTRACTION. The rest is just extra. The descriptions weren't meant to be long or detailed.
1) Why the whole extension on the map into NYC street and over to the GMR backstage? Was there a purpose?
Yes. To connect the ride and the show thematically. And because it would be cool. But again, we didn't lose much sweat over it. It was an extra.
2) How is Sweetums related to Big Bird in any real way (yes, the elders among us....which is me and those who can use youtube...know that Sweetums was a regular on Sesame Street for a VERY short while...but...most people don't. What do you all have to offer?
I grouped them together because they are both large walkaround characters, unlike the puppets.
That said, whomever did the map, I really liked it a lot! The Kermit "compass" was neat. The rest of it was ok...but rather bland.

Thank you and thank you.
The queue is in such detail, but the rest is not. Did you run out of time?
It wasn't a time issue... but I designed that before everyone had there scene descriptions in. So in a way, it was a time issue, I guess. :p

We explain that later.

Noted. I'll use music in the future. :) You were supposed to get how we would use the trackless system to our advantage out of it.

It didn't take much work, this is something that I threw together at the last minute.

The "cryptic ridethrough video" wasn't in our opening either.

Can't wait for the rest!

"The ride vehicles will consist of two rows that can each seat up to 4 people. They will have a red and gold color scheme, with decorative patterns and fleur de lis on both flanks. The ride will board in groups of 5 vehicles at a time, which will also travel together throughout the experience. Animatronic versions of Statler and Waldorf will occupy the front row of one of the vehicles from each group, riding with the guests and occasionally commenting on the action. Thus, the maximum total capacity of each group of vehicles will be 36 people."

I had you, and the graphic is amazing...right until the last statement...

"Animatronic versions of Statler and Waldorf will occupy the front row of one of the vehicles from each group, riding with the guests and occasionally commenting on the action."

Huh? Your ride vehicles don't reflect that. In fact nothing you said reflects that. Probably best you should omit that part (and someone forgot).

I LOVE the entrance to the ride. Well done, graphics and description and all.

Still not sure how the transition from the kid friendly "Sesame" brand translates to the darker "Muppet" brand as you all related. You could have used a paragraph or so to transition that.

Why the Golden Statues of the Muppets whom are still characters and still alive? I suppose I'll find out, but not drawing me in (though those graphics before definitely did!)

Nice Kermit intro. Very in character!

Would have been better if Kermit said "hope you enjoy the experience" instead of "ride", but that's a nitpick.

Ok, stepping back where is this again? Is this in the current theatre?

To quote...."The halls are lined with posters from Disney and Muppet Films, records, and signatures of the guests and performers that have played this beautiful theater throughout the years "

So, according to HS canon, that theater has always been there...

You all may have addressed it, but, as I said at the beginning, this is stream of consciousness as I read.

No, that's supposed to be there.

It's pretty crucial, actually.

I didn't put them in the ride vehicle mockups because they aren't in every vehicle... only one of the vehicles from each group.

"Up a small set of stairs, we pass two dressing rooms from which we can hear indiscernible voices, chickens, Cows, Bike Horns, a trombone practicing, and other random noises occasionally. "

This is brilliant world building. I love the descriptions!

-Generic comment about the queue

Overall, really well done. I have a few complaints, but really, I enjoyed it.

So...Scene 1

Ok, this is where you guys really needed some music. Most people know Sousa, but jamming along with it would have helped.

Not digging the Waldorf and Stat reference....they are against rider safety? I get the joke (and it is funny), just not sure this is the place to make it.

I don't get the marble muppets (I do understand what you are trying to do, just not in the context of the ride you presented) It is an ok transition stage I guess.

"Making a slight turn, we notice that the statues and arches have disappeared, and we are now in a hall only adorned with red curtains."

At this point I wish to see a track layout, to be sure you all aren't just pulling this out of your...er...noses...cause all guys pick their noses according to Frozen.

Finally the line of vehicles stop right in front of the large canvas sign as the song climaxes with “Here we go, it’s the Great Muppet Ride.”

No, no no...this doesn't fit at all.

You guys should have done something more imaginative. Think rhymes...that isn't one. And tempo, also not complimentary.

"We are going to take you on our Muppet Show" would have been better, or something like that. People attract to sounds more than words (hence why rap is so popular, most people don't listen to the lyrics, just the beat.)

How are S&W still around? Seriously, thematically, you see them ,do they have the magical floating first class ticket box seats?
