The size of Disneyland is about the size of...?

After having spent 4 days at Disneyland in October, I was trying to liken it's size to that of an area of Disney World. To me, I'd say it's about the same size as all of The Magic Kingdom across to the beginning of Bay Lake starting at the TTC. Am I accurate?

The MK (or DL) portion of DL resort is actually a little smaller than the MK portion of WDW. To me it feels bigger but you can compare two sizes on google maps.

Disneyland Park itself is a little bit smaller than WDWs Magic Kingdom, which is 107 acres. I think DLP is 85 acres.

Disneyland Resort is a little over 500 acres, about the size of Kilimanjaro Safaris in AK.

I have only been once but it felt much smaller to me than WDW's MK especially in navigating my way around the park from one land to another. I don't really know why it just felt weird, but I was already used to WDW before my trip to DL.

when I went to work there, (25 Years ago) during the training we were told that DL and all of the parking could fit into the Magic Kingdom with room left over.

I'm not sure where that came from, but if I interpret it correctly, it is way wrong.

MK DL (just the park itself) is roughly the same size as MK WDW (again, just the park itself), maybe a bit smaller. It is a bit longer front to back, and somewhat shorter side to side. But Main St. is narrower, the main st. buildings are smaller and so is the castle, and the hub has much less room surrounding it. MK DL is much denser and packs lots more attractions into a somewhat smaller space. DCA is about half the area of the MK.

Now, if you are talking about the entire DL property, including hotels and parking, then the OP is about right; it is about the length of the WDW MK and Seven Seas Lagoon (I'm assuming she meant SSL and not Bay Lake) together. The width is roughly the same as the distance between Floridian Way (which runs N-S just W of the GF parking lot) and World Dr. (which runs N-S just W of the WL and Comtemp).

That's what I've been told as well, and what I've read. Here are some links I found regarding facts regarding DLR.

The magic lands and public areas of DISNEYLAND occupy 85 acres of ground. Guest parking for 10,250 vehicles.

I'm not doubting that you've heard that, but I'm sitting at my computer right now, with side-by-side satellite images of MK DL and MK WDW, and it's simply not true. Not even close.

The analogy relating MK, DL and parking that I'm familiar with is that the DL park could fit in the MK parking lot. I think the point is just that MK has a lot of parking spaces, basically. MK could probably fit in its own parking lot as easily as DL could.

It could. MK's parking lot is bigger than the park itself.

Not true. 25 years ago, Disneyland was just the theme park and the parking lot. The total size of the two combined was 160 acres (read just about any publication from that time period and 160 acres is always the number given for the size). The theme park itself is about 80 acres.

Magic Kingdom is about 100 acres, which is only about 20 acres larger than Disneyland. That's not big enough to hold both the theme park and the parking lot. Whoever told you that was wrong.

That's just about right. I just used Gmaps Pedometer to measure the distances.

At Disneyland, the entire property that's enclosed within Ball, Walnut, Katella and Harbor is 0.75 miles wide and 1 mile tall.

At WDW, at their closest point, World Dr by the Contemporary and Floridian Way north of the GF are 0.8 miles apart. And from Floridian Way north of the MK to Seven Seas Drive by the Poly is 1.4 miles (1 mile would be somewhere in the middle of the Lagoon.)

A better comparison would be Epcot. The canals to the east and west of the park are 0.7 miles apart in Future World, and from the northern-most point in the Epcot parking lot to the service road behind American Adventure it's a hair over 1 mile.

My hubby visited DL in Nov. 2008 & he noticed that everything was more compact at DL in comparison to WDW.
Of course, Walt Disney knew what he was doing when he purchased tons of land in FL - he wanted to make sure that there was plenty of room to grow.
