The saddest day at Disney...

This isn't a sad park moment, but a sad Disney moment in my household. Today, I packed up my DDs' Cinderella Castle play set and put it in the basement because they told me that they are too old to play with Princess toys anymore. At least I can save it for the grandkids to play with someday (like in 25 years).

September 18, 2001. My wife and in-laws (who had never been to DW before) and I went to WDW exactly 1 week after the 9/11 attacks. Get to the park and it was on virtual lock-down. Park was virtually empty, seemed like 1/2 the rides/attractions weren't running and we still paid full price.

Oh I agree the saddest day, well its a toss up. Sometimes for me its the day before departure day. Because I know this is the last full day in the parks...and then departure day. Yeah don't even get me started on that one. I hate to even think of how depressed I am. I know we will be back, but sometimes that thought it just not enough on the actual day you leave.

Can't say I'm a fan of the day of departure, but I'm always aware in the back of my mind that the next one will occur at some point. Maybe a few years down the line, simply because there are other places I want to visit, and other things I want to do.

I suppose it's advantageous in a way that my flight is always an overnight flight, meaning I have a good half day of park usage on the day of departure, and I technically don't arrive home until the following day. I consider myself on holiday from the moment I leave the house until the moment I return.

OK, this is going to sound strange but if you knew me, maybe not so much. My "bad day" is probably Wednesday and I can't explain why. We fly in on a Saturday morning and I'm good thru Tuesday but come Wednesday, I'm feeling like I'm on the down swing of the vacation. By Thursday I've gotten over it and by the day we leave, I've usually already booked a return trip and I'm ready to head home knowing I'll be back.

It's not anything tragic. ( I hope ) it's just that I took early retirement two years ago, after 35 years working with British Telecom. So we built an extension onto our villa ( 2 bedrooms,en suite, large sun lounge, and large new kitchen ) and that cost around $75000 and a new car and a Disney vacation last year.So you could say it's a finance thing..A typical Disney vacation costs us around $10000.So I'am now in a 2 piece band and not making Bon Jovi money..Unless some rich relative leaves us a bag of gold.;)

I just saw Bon Jovi on Friday.... I was wondering his stake in finances per show....lucky rock star... (Sorry...off topic, I know)

Well, your home must be gorgeous and it's a good investment. Who knows what may happen

Thank you..We decided to build onto the existing house and that took up a good bit of my money, but like you said,we are very proud of the outcome..Now where's my begging letter to Mr Jovi..LOL;)

I just wait for the moment on the last day of each trip when my wife tears up because the trip will soon be over. Though it makes her sad, it brings me joy as I have watched her love for Disney grow to the point which she cries for having to leave. When we first started dating long ago I was cautious of not overwhelming her with Disney and my love for visiting. Now, here we are 14 years later and I get asked once a week, "when can we go back?" We are blessed to be able to visit several times a year and even knowing we will back within a few months she cries like a little girl as we watch Illuminations on our last night. I put my arm around her shoulder and hold her tight and thank the Lord for our blessings and our love. For me, the end of each trip drives me to focus more on succeeding in my endeavors in life and work and get back to grinding as hard as I can because one way or another, I WILL RETIRE IN GOLDEN OAKS!!!!!!
