The Roller Coaster Chicken has a question

I think it's really important to be able to trust the information you receive about a ride before going on it if you are fearful. The worst thing in the world is not to expect what is about to happen when you are afraid. Because I trusted my husband to tell me the truth about various rides is the only reason I was willing to try the ones I've tried.

So the truth is that there is no dropping feeling in RnRC. The ups and downs are even less than on Space. It is just super fast, and as the post below indicates, it is loud and visually really cool. I actually find is less scary because it is in the dark and I cannot see clearly when the inversions are coming. They are not loop-do-loops at all but instead tight corkscrews that are over so quickly you almost wonder if you just experienced them. The first time I decided to go on it, I was standing next to my then 11 year old son about to get on the next ride, and he looked up at me and said, "Are you crying mommy?" LOL. Well, I was definitely tearing up with terror, but I garnered up my courage, and I'm glad I did because I loved it! More so than Space.

Great Post!

Let me make a case for you...you rode Space mountain..IMO Rock-N_Rollercoaster is a much smoother ride...It's completey dark..with tons of neon..you may not notice the ride as the music and sights overwhelm your senses..

This sums it up well.. and RnRC is 90 seconds, so it's over pretty quickly. If it gets to be too much, I tell people to just close your eyes and tell yourself it's almost over. It does work, I've done it!

I have always been apprehensive of roller coasters myself.
But I have done EE & RNRC.
In my opinion, EE is the scariest roller coaster at WDW...but it was not as bad as I thought it would be.
RNRC is my favorite roller coaster at WDW!

It is the falling sensation that scares me. I get it for about 2 seconds at the very last part of splash mountain but I ride it with my hands up anyway because it is my favorite of themeing.. but everest scares me, space scares me because I can't see where i am going, and I really want to ride Rock n Roller coaster but no one will tell me if there is a dropping feeling.

The launch on RNRC definitely gives me that "dropping" feeling like on tower of Terror and going down any big hills on roller coasters.

I consider myself to be a big coaster chicken.. I trace it back to my mother dragging me on the HersheyPark Comet at a young age of 9 and she never holds on! She last rode coasters on her 70th bday, she just turned 80 in July. So yea.

With that said, I like BTMRR even though it's jerky. Space and RNRC I can tolerate, but Space is jerky and RnRC is smooth.

Splash is ok, but my youngest daughter flipped out so badly that I hated it.. I would like to try it again sometime but that drop panics me just watching the plumes and all.

ToT is one I cannot do because of my back problem the drops are just too much for me.

EE is the one I have NOT tried. I am like the OP.. chicken and scared of it.

Part of the reason I do most of the rides with her is because my hubby is too tall to fit in the rides properly- when he tried RnRC he cut his knee on it! He's 6'8" basketball player build so that explains his trouble with fit.

I would love to try EE, but I still cannot work up enough nerve to try it. I think I can handle the backwards part. I am not sure about the first hill climb, yikes.. and then the big fast drop.. my older daughter does NOT hold on for that big drop, I could've killed her! LOL!

This thread is great- it is good to know I am not the only adult chicken!

It's interesting how each person experiences these rides.. that launch on RnRC is part I love. I do not get a dropping feeling.. I just imagine I put the petal to the metal and sit back and roll with it.. now right after the launch the loop can give me that quick dropping feeling but it's over so fast that it doesn't bother me.

I'm the biggest chicken when it comes to roller coasters. I cried hysterically on Space Mountain. But I've done EE three times and loved it. The one drop that you can see from outside of the ride is rather intense, but other than that the ride is pretty fantastic and not all that scary. :)

I said that I would post back after my trip, and we all chickened out. :( We did go on the other 3 mountains though. :)

All of the WDW coasters are pretty tame compared to some at other parks. But I think I'm done with Space Mt. - it's just too rough a ride especially as I get older. RnRC and even EE are really smooth rides in comparison.

Here is what I do. I go to a local park which is not known for it's big drops, before we go to WDW. We ride the log flume, the roller coaster (which is somewhat tame compared to one that would be at 6 flags) and other rides. This takes the edge off a little so you are not going on the rides in WDW cold turkey. That way I don't feel like I spent alot of money and didn't go on the major attractions, if that makes sense.

Just wanted to come back to this thread for an update that I rode the ride!!
Here is the proof of how terrified I was...

I'm absolutely terrified of roller coasters. Having said that, I do them all except RnRC. We took a newbie with us and I told her that I would ride it once for her. The picture shows how much I loved it. I'm crying in the picture. So anytime they rode after that was without me. It was my husband, daughter and her friend the newbie. They laugh whenever they see the picture. Well, turns out she was petrified of ToT. She kept riding it but her face in every picture was priceless. Not so funny now is it??

PS....I love EE. I hope you will try it!!
