The Roller Coaster Chicken has a question

I think that EE is kind of like an enlarged BTMRR that has a large hill drop. I don't think it is scary at all. I ride it at least four times in a row the morning that I got to AK every trip!

EE is not a big, bad scary coaster like some thrill coasters are...but it is much closer to them than the very tame Big Thunder.

I don't think that being okay with Big Thunder and Space (or even Splash, which you said you didn't love) means you'll be fine with Everest. EE is a little badder, the hill is a little cooler and the whole ride is a bit more thrilling than the MK "coasters."

I'm not saying you shouldn't ride it. If you want to give it a shot, you totally should! But you are taking it to the next level, coaster-wise, and I don't want you to hop in line without having had anyone mention it!!

As kids go, I always let them ride whatever they want to ride (assuming they meet the height requirement). Different kids get over their fears at different ages, assuming they aren't pushed or influenced in any way. If the kids want to do it and you don't, you can stand in line with them and take the very convenient "chicken exit" at the loading spot. :)

In general I am a roller coaster chicken, but there are a few exceptions. I love BTM and SM, but have never been on Everest. How scary is Everest in comparison? I also have to think about the kids. My DD 9 loved BTM 3 years ago and DS 6 rode BTM but was not interested in riding again but he was only 3 at the time so hopefully he will have a different idea about rides this time. Thanks for any help. :geek:
Speaking as a fellow roller coaster chicken, EE is not bad. It is BTMR on steroids. Going backwards is fun. I will NEVER ride RnR at HS EVER again. I thought I would die on that one, I shook for an hour after. So, for me EE is a spicier version of Big Thunder.

Thank you for all of the replies guys. We will be going to the Magic Kingdom on Monday so we will start out slow with BTM, then Splash, then Space Mountain and see how it goes from there. When we get back I will post if I/we chickened out or not. :D

It isn't that bad. There is a pretty big drop in there, but I find Splash Mountain's drop to be worse. It's different going down in a flume than in a huge train. The backwards parts makes be iffy. That's the only part I'm kinda scared of, but I go on it all the time and have a blast. It isn't that extreme.
EDIT:
The ending is like BTM but with speed boosts.

We need time for things to happen.
There is nothing in all of WDW that is truly a scary coaster. My wife will NOT touch even the tamest rollercoaster outside of Disney parks and she enjoys all roller coasters at WDW (except for SM due to back issues).

I will say this about Everest -- and it's been referenced a bit already ---I'm ok with any coaster (tall and fast doesn't scare me) as long as it doesn't do loops or go backwards, I can do Everest, but only a couple of times. The backwards part gets to me motion wise not scare wise.
Just something to consider.

Maybe I'm jaded from riding things like Sheikra, Kraken, and Hulk, but I don't find Everest that intense at all.
I say go for it. It's faster than Big Thunder but not as rough, so I would think you'd be fine.

Hi.

Do you mean Scary as in "This ride frightens me" or are we talking "OH MY GOD IM GOING TO BE SICK LET ME OFF THIS CRAZY THING." Because I come from the "cant ride coasters anymore" because of head injuries, but Ive ridden all the big coasters in Orlando in the past 18 months.

Everest isnt scary, its just ridiculously intense unlike anything in Orlando. It has a sequence where you go in an upwards tight curve - backwards before dropping to the end. That sequence just kills me every time and I will never ride it again.

Its not scary, its just much more intense than The Hulk, Dragon Challenge, BTMRR, Space Mountain.

No, I am not worried about being sick, just being scared and even more importantly, I don't want my kids to be afraid.

My 6 year old (who was only about 40lbs. and barely tall enough to ride) rode EE last fall and she absolutely loved it. When I was a kid I could ride corkscrews and loop rides all day long without getting motion sick. EE was the first ride we got on for our trip last fall and as soon as we started backwards through the dark tunnel I got queazy. From then on for the rest of the trip I just took 1 non-drowsy Dramamine every morning around 7AM and I was golden.

You'll only know if they ride it. And if they are scared it only lasts a couple of minutes and they're done. If they don't want to ride it again than they don't have to. It's not like someone with a hockey mask and a machete is chasing them around the park.

Sorry, I meant Space Mountain. Sadly I find Splash Mountain scarier than space.

I completely understand where you are coming from. I am a fellow coaster chicken myself. Over the years, as my hubby and growing children deserted me to go on Disney thrill rides, I felt compelled to try some of them so as not to be left alone. I started with BTM, and I was OK with it. Then I moved onto Space, and that was on the fringes of what I could stand, but I did enjoy it. I absolutely hate that final drop in Splash, but since it is over in a few seconds, I will tolerate it for the sake of going on the rest of the ride. Then I moved onto RnRC, and interestingly I enjoyed it. The speed did not bother me, and even the inversions did not bother me because I could not see them in the dark, and there were no big drops. That's my achilles heel - drops. And that's why I personally would say that Everest is far scarier than any of the others - big drops, both forward and backward. I cannot stand that stomach lurching feeling of drops. As a result, after trying Everest once, I will not be going on it again. Same for ToT. Tried it once but never again. So if it's drops you're trying to avoid, then you will not like Everest.
