Oh god Im in Vista! Should I worry?! When I moved in...my roomates cleaned out the fridge...THERE WAS A COCKROACH IN A BAG OF APPLES! Lets just say, I dont keep food in the fridge. Dirty roomates.

The only advice I can give you on that one is to make sure you call the club house (or maybe security, I don't remember which) whenever you see a roach and they'll come and spray. I was in Vista back in 2002 and everytime we saw a roach we called and they sprayed. That and try to keep things clean, though that won't always work by itself. We never had any major problems, just saw several dead ones and twice I can remember just randomly seeing one walk across the counter or floor. Luckily I never had the displeasure of seeing any inside food containers. I knew people who did, but I never did.

Here, here on being nice to the lizards, they're on our side.

We used to see red velvet ants the size of a dime.

Mothra was on our door once (swear, it was the size of a baseball.)

I remember hearing someone in our apt. complex complaining about the ant colony in their closet...and they were on the 2nd floor.

WDW is heaven when it comes to bugs though. They fog the entire place every night...no kidding. Trucks roll through the parking lots and wooded areas...everywhere, fogging the whole place to keep the bugs down.

Everytime I see a Palmetto bug, I tell our husband we're moving back to NH!! We had bugs up North (the worst was tick season), but never the size of what I find here! :hurl:

Palmetto bugs aren't stupid apparently. This event at Fantasmic sounds like it was organized.

In any event, they're ugly & big. And of course they fly - although they're pretty clumsy at it. Went through a period 2 years ago when every evening when I was outside, I'd get hit in the head or face by a few of these things.

The only sensible thing to calm the situation though is for Florida to go ahead and adopt the Palmetto as the Florida state bird, commission a cute little cartoon image, and see if we can't cultivate a cuddly reputation for it.

This bug gathering at Fantasmic sounds like it would make a good horror movie. I'm moveing to FL later this year & can't wait to have to deal w/ them. I don't care if they are crawling on my face during the night as long as I can be closer to Disney

Ahh frogs!! :hurl:

My biggest phobia... I'll take the last two over frogs and iguanas any day :hurl:

I kept having late night run-ins with this little froggy baby the last time I was at the French Quarter. I wasn't afraid of him, but he liked to hang out on the walls at about head height and I'd come around a corner and there he would be. A cousin of his used to sit outside my room door too looking up at it, waiting for me to let him in I guess.

Oh God... this thread gives me goose bumps EEEWWW
I have a phobia for roaches, so I stopped reading on the 4th or 5th post. Don´t wanna take a look at the attachment!
While I lived in Orlando, I didn´t see any - well.. maybe one or two - my apartment was sprayed every month, so I never encountered any in it or I would have DIED!!
One more reason to go during the Winter...

honestly roaches dont bother me too too much. they are gross but i had to work with all sorts of silly creatures when i was in high school (went to a vocational school). But the one thing that can really make me get the willies is slugs and snails. I remember being in Epcot sitting on a bench and here comes Mr.Slug creeping up to me. I ran so fast. then i break out in a nervous rash lol.

Though the roaches would have been a very unpleasant experience. I hope nobody is so traumatized by that they never go back to WDW :(

Hmm, I've never seen the Palmettos on all 3 of my WDW trips, they must have been on vacation while I was in town....Good to know though so I can be on the lookout so my wife doesn't freak! Lol

I really don't mind either the lizards or frogs, if I could catch them and take them back outside. Its just the creepy crawly feeling I get when I see them inside my house...Its the nightmare of them getting in my hair or something when I am asleep...

[Sorry, I am such a baby  ]
