The Resort TV channel is going away

I’ll reiterate the same as others…the Resort TV channel was calming and got the magic going in the morning as you got ready. The music is the main draw but also nice to see the subtle images. It’s part of what kept you in the bubble.

Guess I’ll just have to pull up YouTube and watch it there. I’m actually surprised they still have TVs in the rooms. I figure they would want you to do everything on your phone. Seems to be the (unfortunate) trend.

I love having the Resort tv station on in the room while I get ready and to have the music on when taking a nap (we call it the nap channel in our house), but I agree that the volume at first is loud. The volume isn't a huge deal when it is my own room because I can turn it down but one time when we were staying at the Pop Century (August 2020) we were trying to go to sleep (our tv was off) and we could clearly hear the Resort TV next to us, it was like it was in our room. When we had walked to our room that night we were able to see into that room and it wasn't occupied so we knew no one was in that room watching the tv. We had to call the front desk and ask them to go into that room and turn the tv down and actually they did fairly quickly because we heard someone go into the room and leave a little bit later and we didn't hear the tv any more.

I am guilty of this, but I feel like many Disney fans also want the Disney experience as it existed in their preteen/first visit years to be forever encased in amber.

Not really. Having standards should not be confused with not wanting anything to change. What changes should be an improvement, not a step backwards or reduction. There's no reason why the existing channel couldn't continue to exist and an interactive channel as well. I think there are more people who have turned on and enjoyed the channel, certainly more than several of the usual posters around here want you to believe (not you, @helenabear, you made valid points).

If someone thinks the interactive channel is better, why are you checking a TV in your room for that information and not checking the MDE app on your phone? Isn't that what we've been told is the way to go? 🤔

FWIW, my favorite version of the channel is from the mid-2000's, which is a long way from my first visits, when we didn't stay on-site. :)

I think it was Chuck Klosterman that wrote that a person’s favorite music is from their high school/college days.

True. But honestly I’d have less of an issue if they left the regular music or gave an option. Not a huge deal though, I can just throw it on the TV over YouTube.

I also just think certain things warrant replacement (outdated, dusty, broken). I just don’t think the channel was there yet.

And again, confused why they couldn’t keep it around everywhere until it’s officially decommissioned in a few years.

Seeing and hearing that resort TV channel as i first entered the room just set the mood for the entire trip. It really was part of the whole experience for us. Anything we can find on that interactive version we could find even easier through our phone.

As others have said, that channel and its music was the backdrop for us as we got ready for the days adventure.

Between MDE, unique resort music on buses, and now this it seems they are getting rid a lot of the small things that just set the mood for the trip. Guess if it doesnt directly involve money or data then it isnt worth anything anymore.

The reason they don’t keep both versions isn’t because they’re cheap, soulless monsters trying to ruin every last bit of magic. It’s because keeping it around is redundant, creates clutter, and keeps the business from moving forward.

In many years they’ll replace this interactive one with something else, and your kids will be complaining too. Or should they never get rid of anything people have emotional attachment to?

At the end of the day it's just a stupid TV channel.

to piggyback on this thread since it is about resorts, does anyone know if the resorts are utilizing their full capacity for bookings or are they limiting the number of rooms they will sell? (like 75% instead of 100%) Just curious if there is artificial scarcity at play or they really are booking out a lot of these resorts to their fullest

🤣 Wow, look at these tough posters. Way to flex on a Disney message board about something people loved going away.

If people want to be upset, then let them be upset. If you didn't like it or thought it was "stupid" then silently rejoice that it's leaving.

They need to just show disney cartoons, pop in some weather channel, then some promos for the newest rides then loop with different cartoons..... or instead of classic cartoons have shorts from disney plus so that you want to join.

Not taking sides, but this is a discussion forum. If you post something, people are going to comment on it and offer their opinions on the matter. This isn't a personal screambox.

People are not just upset, they’re arguing that it’s a terrible decision by Disney. Likewise, I’m not rejoicing, I‘m just saying it’s a good decision.

I don't understand the point of the interactive TV channel. It's the same information that's much easier to access on your phone, or even laptop if you brought one.

With that said, it seems fine.

Here's a look at the TV in a blog mickey room tour of the new DVC rooms at Grand Floridian. Not sure if it matters that it's DVC

Hard to tell if it actually is. Look at the subsequent pictures in the actual article. It sticks out from the wall quite far, so when viewed from even a slight angle, you can't get a sense of whether or not it's centered in the frame. The pictures from the opposite side have the same issue in the other direction. Not saying it's perfectly centered, but it may just be a perspective thing.
