No, read the sentence again. The current pandemic is an example of a catastrophic event that could severely hurt the parks.
Regardless of how you read it, it is still suggesting that Iger tried to sell because of the risk of a catastrophic event. In other words, Gary is trying to put a current “spin” on the original article.

Surely the actual reason he tried to sell is, as you said, “he thought the parks were an unstable, mature business that cost too much to operate, required too much continual investment and had no room for growth”. This is a genuine, plausible reason for trying to sell a business.

Too many negative externalities I.E. pandemics, recessions, terrorists attacks, natural disasters, etc..

Bob is better off selling everything and turning WDW into a financial services company.

Iger was part of the company on September 11, 2001 when a catastrophic event occurred and resulted in years of suppressed business at the parks. The pandemic is a current event that is hurting the parks and will likely hurt them for years.

Just curious, what would happen if SSE wasn't temperature controlled?
Stuff yourself in a container in the middle of a hot summer day and see how long you last in the heat, same thing. I am keeping stuff in storage without climate control and I am freaking paying the price the elements have accelerate disintegrating x50% no freaking joke. Makes me want to toss all them out the window now.

Iger didn’t put the park in China it was Eisner. Everyone wants to “bring” the disney experience closer to you! Haha

So it’s Eisner’s fault?!

Then why did Iger even bother with putting a park in China?
In regards to what? Mainland China is a huge market and Shanghai Disneyland is a deal Eisner couldn’t/wouldn’t make.

Hong Kong, yes, but the Mainland and the SARs were viewed as distinct places.
