1SC Retrospective
Season 3, Episode 1 - Back to Basics

Season 3 started with refining the formula and setting the game up to grow in the future!
No longer using the Imagineering Weekends title and no longer using the same thread while just changing hosts.
The big focus I had with this round was taking everything I could from previous seasons and putting together a template for the game going forward. I reread every season that came before mine and tried to study what worked and what didn't. What people responded to and what they didn't really care for. Overall, I like to think my efforts worked out nicely. The formula I had in place (built on the backs of giants obviously, based on David's, Space's, and Tcool's work) was more or less used for the next several episodes. And the Template for prompt writing that I made has stayed mostly the same to this day!
The theme of the season was "Back to Basics." Taking the game back to a simpler place after the time travel and what if gimmicks. More or less every prompt was about WDW (with some having the freedom to do other parks if the players wanted to). Intentionally simple prompts with a few clever twists to keep it feeling fresh.
The Episode started with the same 1-5 sentences, 1-2 pictures, 1-2 sentence bonus rules as the Episode before it. But after a couple of rounds this was simplified to 1-3 Sentences, 1 picture, and a 1 sentence bonus.
The bonuses were again the same each round and virtually meaningless outside of an occasional tie breaker. It was always "Disney loves to take everything they build and build it again somewhere else. As a bonus, you may use 1 additional sentence to describe where you would add a clone of your ride to one of the other Disney Parks around the world."
One cool twist I was able to do (Since this was back when I was a Cast member) was video reviews from inside the parks! (A lot of inspiration from @TheOriginalTiki and his podcast obviously) They were a lot of fun and who knows maybe something that might make a bit of a comeback idk who can say.
It wasn't a perfect season though. Like I said, there was a big focus on trying to refine the formula of the game. Which meant a lot of areas played it safe. Plus, the video reviews were cool but they often meant reviews and results would come at inconsistent times and would get delayed. It was fun having the videos, but there was downsides.
This Episode did a lot of work setting up the game for a strong future by analyzing and building on what came before it. I didn't do much "new" but instead tried to reverse engineer the past and mash it together. With the large gap in time since the last season of the One Sentence Competion, this "classic" approach meant to build a new foundation is definitely on my mind. Use a relatively simple season to set up a new, refreshed template/format using the lessons learned in the first 21 Episodes to help launch the game into the future!

As a Discussion Question for today, let's look at my favorite prompt from Season 3, Episode 1!
"CHALLENGE 7: Design a Replacement for Rafiki's Planet Watch, but it must remain a "separated" land (only accessible by train or other transportation methods)."
I’m gonna be like Iger here and propose a zootopia land"CHALLENGE 7: Design a Replacement for Rafiki's Planet Watch, but it must remain a "separated" land (only accessible by train or other transportation methods)."
I thought this was your image at the bottom and was very confused!I’m gonna be like Iger here and propose a zootopia land
A North America land with a dark ride, animal encounters, and farm subland allowing us to keep the petting zoo - accessible via canoes park-goers must row themselves."CHALLENGE 7: Design a Replacement for Rafiki's Planet Watch, but it must remain a "separated" land (only accessible by train or other transportation methods)."
A boat ride takes you to a land of mythical creatures—one that has already been designed and would still be awesome"CHALLENGE 7: Design a Replacement for Rafiki's Planet Watch, but it must remain a "separated" land (only accessible by train or other transportation methods)."
The Mystic-Falls Cryptozoological Society, an indoor cryptozoology-themed area allowing guests to visit exhibits for the following cryptids located within a subterranean zoo deep beneath a Malian palace: Bigfoot, Mothman, the Loch Ness Monster, the Gorgon, and the Unicorn. Each cryptid has its own unique attraction. The Loch Ness Monster takes guests on a submarine voyage beneath Loch Ness to the Monster's cave. The Gorgon takes guests hiking up a craggy Mediterranean cliff trail leading to the cave of the Three Gorgon Sisters, filled with their victims. Mothman takes guests on a calm boat ride through West Virginia's Appalachian Mountains at night, encountering many different types of moth before encountering Mothman himself, surrounded by moths of all species. Bigfoot takes guests on a mine cart ride through the Rocky Mountains, passing blazed (scratched) trees before an encounter with Bigfoot himself. The Unicorn takes guests on a gentle camel ride through the deserts of the Arabian Peninsula to see “The Unicorn Of The Desert” itself, the Arabian Oryx. It's still accessible only by train, but the Planet Watch building will be changed to fit a “Malian Palace” theme with the interior changed to a cave with the exception of the cryptid exhibits."CHALLENGE 7: Design a Replacement for Rafiki's Planet Watch, but it must remain a "separated" land (only accessible by train or other transportation methods)."
I still wonder why none of the transportation systems aside from buses have access to AK.Soarin’ Over Africa
Take the latest arm of the Disney Skyliner right over Kilimanjaro Safari for a unique bird’s eye view of the animals. A screen inside your cabin shows you close-ups of what you’re flying over. Touch down (crash land) in the middle of the wilderness (the former Rafiki’s) for an up-close look from inside a protective paddock. Enjoy QS meals, shopping, and take a train ride back.
Anything involving more skyliners I am 100% into lolSoarin’ Over Africa

A cool idea!An arctic land with a coaster, dark ride, and a walkthrough with penguins and polar bears
Doing it kind of separated in the back and treating it like DAK's Toon Town is the only way I'd be into Zootopia at DAK. If done right it could be very coolI’m gonna be like Iger here and propose a zootopia land
Zootopia 2 looks way different lol
Canoes are a great touchA North America land with a dark ride, animal encounters, and farm subland allowing us to keep the petting zoo - accessible via canoes park-goers must row themselves.
You can never go wrong with Beastly Kingdom!A boat ride takes you to a land of mythical creatures—one that has already been designed and would still be awesome
Cryptozoology is such a perfect fit for DAK if done well and this would be fantastic! I feel the same way about Wakanda at DAK the way I do about Zootopia. But this approach to it incorporating the Affection Section is a really clever spin that I think makes it work!I still wonder why none of the transportation systems aside from buses have access to AK.
Anyway, Wakanda is a land themed to the MCU series set in the same place, featuring spiraling towers of obsidian, a dark ride, and retaining features like the Affection Section.
In the place of Rafiki’s Planet Watch is South America, where guests can go on an Amazon River Expedition, take a ride along the Aracuan Railways as Donald, José, and Panchito run afoul of the eccentric Aracuan Bird, zip through the canopy of the Amazon Rainforest, and encounter many of the species that inhabit it. Like Planet Watch before it, this land is only accessible via the Wildlife Express."CHALLENGE 7: Design a Replacement for Rafiki's Planet Watch, but it must remain a "separated" land (only accessible by train or other transportation methods)."
The Ancient World and its mythologies. Just imagine it with these sections: Greek, Egyptian, Chinese, Pacific Northwest Native American, Aztec/Mayan, and Inca. The Greek area holds a labyrinth, Egypt holds a boat ride through a tomb inhabited by the Gods, China holds an omnimover ride through Journey To The West, Pacific Northwest Native America holds an animatronic show based on PNW Raven Tales, Aztec/Mayan Mexico holds a ride through Mayan mythology and a walkthrough haunted Aztec tomb, and the Inca Empire holds a ride across the Great Inca Road and a walkthrough Machu Picchu."CHALLENGE 1: Propose a theme for a 5th gate for WDW"
I’ve tossed around music before, but how about a park themed to literature? (like rides themed to IPs that are based on novels, stories, fairytales, comics, manga, history, utopian stories, etc)"CHALLENGE 1: Propose a theme for a 5th gate for WDW"
DisneySpires (other potential name: Mythica), Walt Disney World’s fifth gate, is primarily themed around portals to the worlds, myths, and folklore of centuries past: the (19th century) British Isles, the Mediterranean, Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece, Medieval China, Ancient Peru, Atlantis, and (Gilded Age) New England. Each portal (land) around the park’s central lagoon has a “Great Spire”, or lighthouse, which shines some light during the park’s nighttime spectacular."CHALLENGE 1: Propose a theme for a 5th gate for WDW"
Not gonna lie Peter pans last flight sounds really darkThis is not practical and would never fly; just wishful thinking. Fifth gate:
“What if…”
And that could be interpreted in several ways, from “What if we still had Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride” (and put that attraction there) to a more anything goes approach - such as casting without regard to race or gender.
Elements of Beastly Kingdom would fit into “What if…”
Alternate versions of attractions that were scrapped would fit (such as a walk through version of Haunted Mansion.)
Villains could feature prominently. (What if Peter Pan lost to Captain Hook? Welcome to “Peter Pan’s Last Flight.”)
A meet & greet with Deadpool in an Ironman style suit would fit.
A year round Christmas attraction or overlay would fit.
