I just received an email from DisneyDirect from my phone order that my CD's have shipped. I will let you know when I receive it and how it looks!

No fair! I don't have one of those emails yet. :(

Hopefully mine will come soon.

Needless to say, we (by that I mean Walt Disney Records, Disneyland, and especially DisneyDirect) were taken by surprise by the incredible response to “A Musical History of Disneyland” on DisneyDirect over the past day or so. We all knew it would be a hit, but such a hit – no one could predict.

In light of this, we have adapted to the situation. With the Limited Edition selling so quickly, we realized that it could sell out within the first few days of release (perhaps before 5.5.05). As of now Disneyland and Walt Disney World still have a few copies of the Limited Edition with DisneyDirect either sold out or very close to it. So, in order to meet demand and still maintain the exclusivity of the Limited Edition, we have decided to make available a Special Edition.

This Special Edition is NOT NUMBERED and will also include the “Walt Disney Takes You to Disneyland” vinyl – with the vinyl itself pressed in standard black vinyl. This Special Edition will exclusive to Disneyland, Walt Disney World, and Disney Direct. So once the 5000 copies of the Limited Edition are gone, you will be able to purchase the Special Edition UN-NUMBERED, with BLACK VINYL at the same price.

I also noticed across many of the discussion boards on the net, that there is a bit of confusion regarding the packaging and contents of these different versions. Let me set the straight – ALL of the sets for “A Musical History of Disneyland” come in a red cloth covered box with a 72 page hard back cloth covered book, and a hard back cloth covered CD holder. The packaging does not change!

Here is an easy break down –

A MUSICAL HISTORY OF DISNEYLAND

LIMITED EDITION (SRP $125)
Limited to 5,000 copies. Available exclusively at Disneyland, Walt Disney World, and DisneyDirect while supplies last.
• Red Cloth Covered Box
• Numbered (5,000 units ONLY)
• Reproduction of “Walt Disney Takes You to Disneyland” pressed in GOLDEN Vinyl
• 72 Page Hard Back Cloth Covered Book
• Hard Back Cloth Covered CD Holder

SPECIAL EDITION (SRP $125)
Open Ended edition. Available exclusively at Disneyland, Walt Disney World, and DisneyDirect. More will be made if necessary.
• Red Cloth Covered Box
• This edition is NOT NUMBERED.
• Reproduction of “Walt Disney Takes You to Disneyland” pressed in Standard BLACK Vinyl
• 72 Page Hard Back Cloth Covered Book
• Hard Back Cloth Covered CD Holder

STANDARD EDITION (SRP $125)
Open Ended edition. Available Nation Wide September 2005
• Red Cloth Covered Box
• 72 Page Hard Back Cloth Covered Book
• Hard Back Cloth Covered CD Holder

Thank you all for such a great response!!! And for those who fell they have missed out to get the “Walt Disney Takes You to Disneyland” reproduction, you still can. The Special Edition will be available, as I said, at Disneyland, Walt Disney World, and DisneyDirect for the entire celebration!!

I believe that this solution (creating the SE) in no way diminishes the exclusivity of the Limited Edition – for there still will be only 5,000 numbered Limited Editions with the golden vinyl and that’s it.

Once again, thank you all for your enthusiasm and I hope you enjoy your copy of “A Musical History of Disneyland”.

Randy Thornton

PS – The 2 Disc sets of both the Official album of The Disneyland Resort and The Walt Disney World Resort are exclusive to their respective resorts. Only the single disc national release is available at Amazon.

This sucks for me as it greatly decreases the value of my Limited Edition set:cry: Oh well, at least all you unlucky ducks now have a second chance, good luck!

Joe I ordered my 2 cd DL set from DL and my 2 disc WDW set from WDW.
I don't know if it's true, but the CM's I spoke with told me that each cd was exclusive to their respective park. And shipping to Canada was $25 each cd!

Thanks, yeah that seems to be right. And it's confirmed by Randy Thornton in an interview from SaveDisney.com:

We asked Randy a few more details about the Disneyland CD releases:

Will the 2-disc set be a National release or park exclusive?

The 2 Disc set is only available at Disneyland. The Single Disc is a National Release and I tried to keep as much historic material as possible. The only big missing element on the single disc is "Remember, Dreams Come True" Fireworks Spectacular and the DCA material. However, those that want the 2 Disc and can't get to the park can order it through Disneyland DelivEARs.

Disney Direct will not be taking orders until 4/25, right?
I'm pretty sure on that, but not positive.

What is the actual street date for all 4 versions?

The 'official' date is May 3rd. I know the National Single Disc will be out then (as most new CDs are released on Tuesdays), but whether Disneyland (or WDW for that matter) puts it out on the 3rd is still a question. Though it should be out on the 3rd, with Disneyland closed on the 4th, Disneyland may opt to put it out on the shelves for the big day of the 5th.

Sans-vinyl version will be available in the park as soon as limited edition runs out?

Yes. And in September, the set (sans vinyl) will be available Nationwide as well.

What is the price of the boxed set with and without the vinyl?

Suggested Retail Price is $125 with or without the vinyl. Same Price for both.

Guess I'll give Disneyland DelivEARs a call. :)

I probably got my order in time to reserve one than. Do you have any idea when they will start shipping them?

Just checked my order number and it said "backordered". I had to order a few other things from disney direct and so I callled them. They are getting 2 different shipments of the 6 disc set. The one was the first shipment, and those that have received e-mails that theirs were shipped, ordered them early on Tuesday. The second shipment, which they have not recieved yet, will be sent to those of us who ordered late on Tuesday. They are still the LE's and he said we would have them the last week in May! I Can't wait!

I don't know. I got the email, but I ordered late Monday night when the first reports of Disneydirect, phone, was excepting the item number for order. Hopefully your dad gets the first shipment, he might want to call to see since he didn't give the email.

If this ships like other stuff from Disneydirect, I should have mine tomorrow!

I ordered mine late Monday night as well. Just checked the shipment status. The package is currently in PA and should be in NJ soon. I hope I have it this weekend. I am going to have to call the merchandising number for WDW and Disneyland and order the park exclusive CDs now.

I'm gonna be pretty unhappy if mine isn't in the first shipment. They told me 8 days (I think) and I tried to order monday night/tuesday morning at like 1:30 am and the stupid lady that I talked to didn't have a clue what I was talking about. :brick: It's not my fault that I had to wait for someone to call me back tuesday morning and I couldn't order until like 10:30 am.

I just called up WDW and ordered the Limited Edition set. She said it'll be mailed out on May 3rd. Yippee :sohappy: I didn't realize it wasn't released yet so when I went to disneydirect.com and saw it wasn't available, I thought 5000 people beat me to the punch. Glad I was mistaken.
