Wow, That is just amazing. Some day I hope to have the money to stay there. Thanks for the pics. What do the actually guest rooms look like? I can't even imagine.

www.swandolphin.com has pictures of the guest rooms (and pictures of the old lobbies as well).

And you'd be surprised, for it being a Deluxe hotel, prices start as low as $129/night! They also accomodate up to 5 guests per room!

Now all they need to do is match the exterior paint to new style of the interior (including removing some of the more garish elements permanatly, like the swirls on the Swan and the Bananas on the Dolphin, seeing as these elements dont exist inside the hotel anymore), and I actualy might stay there.

What is the difference between staying in a Disney hotel, and the swan or dolphin? I read somewhere that you don't get all the same benefits. And is it true that you have to pay for parking each day?

drnile - they just repainted the outside of the hotels, they were still doing that in March when we were there. The colors were really faded.

minnie2000 - we parked a rental car, never got charged for our parking, not sure if it was a flaw on their part or not, but we weren't charged. Also you get Disney transportation use and Extra hours at the park, thing at least when we were there is no purchasing things with your room key like you can at the Disney resorts and no shipping items to your room. It may have changed, I was there for 4 days, while hubby was there for almost 2 weeks.

When we were there in March they had the construction wall up across from conceirge, nice to see what they did with that location, since all we got to see was a long construction wall.

Thanks for the pics.

Thanks so much for the pics Scott! I was a little nervous about staying at the Dolphin in December, but now I'm very excited. Of course, the government employee disount doesn't hurt either.

Not old, just vintage.
Wow. The place looks great. I think I would actually consider a stay there now. If guests could get the Dining Package while staying at either of those resorts I would be sold. For me, I think that might be the deal breaker.

Ok I'll put in my 2 cents here......it does like very nice and trendy now, but I can just see the fabrics on those chairs wearing very quickly, and those retro-70's style hanging lamps looking pretty dated in a few years, when that isn't the trend anymore. Those tables have such tiny legs, I just picture some kid falling back on one of those and splat! the whole table going to the floor, lol. Oh well......the previous decor was more timeless, but needed to be refreshed.

I'm going to be the first to dissent here and say that i preffered it before. The darker woods and "quirkier" colors gave it more personality and a touch more magic IMHO. This looks like the lobby of my office building.

disclaimer: I've only ever stayed at the Dolphin, I've never been inside the Swan, so all my experience is based on that.

Stayed at the Swan in January, and we were charged for parking. All the other services (transportation, EMH, etc.) seemed to be the same. What I really dislike, though, is that they have a sensor system that shuts off the air conditioning when no one is in the room. Not a big deal in January, but my previous stay was in the summer, and it's not fun to come back to a hot room after a day in the parks, especially if your window is facing the sun. Sure, it's conserving energy, but I'm paying for that energy...

There is a model in the resort. It is like the one in the Contemporary.

This is what Starwood is really heading for at the moment though, particularly in the Westin and W brands. Westin has just rolled out a whole new package that includes lit candles in the lobbies in the evenings, trendier music, big, fresh flowers and flower scent being sprayed into the lobby. This goes hand in hand with their bedding package (the Heavenly Bed) and bathroom amenities, etc...You'll see a lot of major hotel chains moving in this direction in the future...it's supposed to be very "Zen" like and relaxing. Anyways. It's hot for the moment and when it becomes dated (like the retro lamps), well...they'll just renovate again. :animwink:

S&D have been charging for parking for at least a year now. They validate for the restaurants though so if you're still on property and want to drive there to eat, it's still "free" to park. Highly recommend you do too, Palio and Blue Zoo are just awesome!.

As far as the AC goes, a few of the Disney resorts do this as well. Pop Century and Riverside do. Not sure if the renovated rooms in Poly, WL or Contemporary. At least I don't remember looking when I stayed at Poly. It kinda sucks but it's good for the environment.
