The "Never Again in July - nunca mais em julho" Disneymoon Trip Report

7.7.12 - Our Wedding day went well, actually very well. It rained all morning and to our luck it stopped an hour and a half before our ceremony and the weather was perfect; reminiscent of a fall day in New England... a tad on the cloudy side, cool with no humidity. This IS not part of the TR but I figured some people were interested... so I wanted to share. I'm sure everyone is interested in what I look like, so bam... here's a couple quickies. The rest of the TR is coming... soon!

The best trip ever, and with the crowds and tour groups 11 days was money and we needed every bit of it.

Congratulations on your wedding!! Great wedding pics....you both look so happy and relaxed. Love the Ellie badge too!

Ah, the Polynesian. My husband and I are already counting the years until our boys leave for college (7) and we are planning a stay at the Polynesian...adults only!

We have had limited experience with the Brazilian tour groups as we always travel to WDW in the fall. Although I do have a (slightly) funny Brazilian tour group story...on our first MK day last trip, my son (who is a soccer FANATIC!) wore his Brazil soccer jersey. I thought it was a great choice because it is neon yellow and he would be easy to spot. We parked the car and headed to the tram...I looked up and a Brazilian tour group was getting on the tram in front of us....EVERY ONE OF THEM was wearing a Brazil soccer jersey! I was so scared all day that I was going to lose my child in the mass of Brazilians in bright yellow!

Excellent stuff so far! Doing Disney for my honeymoon as well...one night at WDW and 7 night cruise on the Fantasy... It would be cool to get some perks we go too!

Ohana was a first for me this year and absolutely loved it.... 37 shrimp, aye? I think I had about 20 but spent too much time pealing them, the rest of the food got cold... Lol..

I echo the sorries about the tour groups, as I have seen them but never been affected that bad, and I am not surprised about the theft...

When we were in Ohana all I could think of was shrimp. I had an online friend rant and rave about the food but the shrimp were served last! I only had one piece of the chicken (tad dry), beef (tad chewy), and pork (probably my least favorite meat). So I mounded wings and actually enjoyed the dumplings. The wife is allergic to pork so I get to consume any goodies with any pork product. But back to the shrimp, rock shrimp are strange! Nice flavor but just different from what I'm used to. Our server initially gave me like 8 and I'm fast at pealing them so they stayed warm, followed by 8 more, then he realized I liked shrimp and handed over the whole skewer.

We had the mixed drink in the pineapple, the name is escaping me now, but what the hell is in there... Gasoline! It was a wicked stuff drink, and on the pricy side considering its size.

Oh my goodness, I will definitely be avoiding WDW in July then, for sure. I just do NOT have that kind of patience to NOT open my big mouth! LOL

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! I would LOVE to have my honeymoon at WDW. Well, we're going on 7 years of marriage now, so maybe a 10 year...haha

Lapu Lapu or something like that..my fiancé had one of those and she said just about the same thing you did! I tasted it, it's not my bag....

I went in to the meal with the shrimp on my mind too.. I could polish off a whole ton of shrimp, especially cocktail shrimp... I'm a pretty good pealer too, but had a few here and there, then went to the other meats. Had one piece of chicken and one piece of pork, but ate a lot of steak....I agree on the pork, not that I hated it, but I was interested in the others...

I was there a couple weeks ago and i have to agree with you. The Brazillian tour groups are HORRIBLE! I forked over so much cash to have my trip ruined by these tour groups. The would chant and take flash photos during rides which really ed me off. Even worse was the fact that they were EVEYWHERE, its near impossible to avoid them. They would even hog up all the fast passes! Never again in July NEVER.

7.12: Once again, we were up early... insanely early. Someone once told me you're supposed to relax on vacation, but I think he was lying to me. At this point we were pretty settled in at the BC and with the crowds and heat decided we'd definitely take a pool break. For those who have never stayed at the BC, the pool is downright beautiful... sand bottom and all. Depending on the time of day it can get busy, but Disney designed the pool well so that children are almost sectioned off into two distinct areas. Also, the pool features a pretty fun slide and depending on the day can be busy or dead.

Since we were in the Epcot loop we stuck with DHS today. This was high on my list for the trip as it would be my first experience with ST (2). I really enjoyed it, loved the reference to the original pilot in the que and really started to notice Disney's "lost but not forgotten" element in their designs. I found the experience to be much smoother, although for some reason I have an issue with my eyes staying focus during 3D attractions. I have 20/20 vision and never have an issue in day to day life but the attraction went soft on me and then would back into a crystal sharp image. Despite this small issue I think its a major step up for DHS. I really enjoy the thrill of randomization, ultimately between a few evening EMH and park visits we rode this about 12 times and experienced all of the major destinations. I read somewhere that there are about 54 difference variations (number could be way off, shooting from this hip on this one) but they must be very small as I didn't notice too many variations.

Not sure if I mentioned this but ToT is amongst my favorite attractions, and again possess the element of randomized drop sequences which is amazing. We really wanted to ride this as much as we could but found some challenges with the crowds. Needless to say we rode it as much as we could considering the limitations we faced.

We were really in vacation mode at this point and eating way too much. Here at home I'm a relatively light eater, mainly due to my wife who just doesn't eat all that much. This trip was a first for many QS and dining experiences for us. For lunch we tried the Backlot Express... which was a key move as we beat the rush and avoided the tour groups. Again, nothing special here just a burger and fries. But dinner was a great surprise for us... Mama Melrose. We had a nice and early ADR at 5:50 and were seated promptly. There is somewhat of an open kitchen but it is no great shakes and could use a clean up! Our CM was a nice guy, British... and was great about coming exactly when you needed him. We started it off with a flatbread, which needed some work... overcooked slightly, not enough cheese. For our entrees Rachel went with the classic chicken parm, and I went for the chicken campenella (requested to spice it up a bit). I was a bit nervous going into this ADR as many had written negative reviews of the restaurant. Is it the finest italian cooking? No, not by a longshot but it's also much better than the chainy feel of an Olive Garden. I actually enjoyed my meal and with entrees at the sub 20 dollar range I was pleased with the experience. As a genuine foodie this is a place you should visit, especially in DHS which really lacks dining options.

We finished off this day with a viewing of Fantasmic. I'll probably get a lot of flame for the following statements. 1.) This was my first time seeing it, 2.) it wasn't all that impressive. I honestly felt like it was more of a trailer for Disney movies since so much of the show relied on the waterscreens. The on stage aspects of the show were fantastic but again, a little light on live action, heavy use of the water screens / previews. I wasn't all that impressed, considering we showed up like 1.5 hrs before and had to wait in a massive line, albeit we had awesome seats.

I am happy to read your positive review of Mama Melrose. We have booked ressies their for the Fantasmic dinner package. We have missed F! every single trip because my wife and kids won't wait an hour plus to see it. So I finally determined the only way I would get to see it is through the package. And MM seemed like the best offering. So even if F! is underwhelming, at least I can look forward to a nice meal and not having to wait in line an hour and a half!

yes, I'm critical as well... trust me. I'd avoid the pizzas, I saw them being made and went for it anyway and its lackluster to say the least. But again, the food is affordable! I really enjoyed my dish, the cream sauce was there but it wasn't thick to the point where it was distracting or overwhelming.

I even went as far as asking my Keys tour guide about them... she made one reference, dollar signs. That kind of upset me, they are annoying to the tenth degree.
1.) chanting
2.) clapping in lines
3.) using one person as a placeholder then having the remaining 98 kids think they can join that single person in line
4.) stealing, which I noticed on numerous occasions... pointed it out to a CM who told me once they leave a specific cart or area there is little they can do, really??!?!?!
5.) flashes on dark rides, although a hell of a lot of people do that anyway.
6.) chanting on rides
7.) tour leaders feeding about 130 park admission tickets in FastPass machines.

I could go on for days.

Sounds about right. I had this exact experience in July 2009. My then-husband yelled at them to shut up. They laughed and said in plain English that they didn't speak English.

Watch videos of the DL version of the show - and you'll understand why more people are disappointed with DHS's version as well.

My wife and I were really bummed... we always missed this show in the past and decided this was the year. Maybe we amped ourselves up too much? I'll have to check out the DL version though. On a side note, I'd really love to see World of Color some day... DL might be in the cards in the near future.
