The "Never Again in July - nunca mais em julho" Disneymoon Trip Report

7.7.12 - Our Wedding day went well, actually very well. It rained all morning and to our luck it stopped an hour and a half before our ceremony and the weather was perfect; reminiscent of a fall day in New England... a tad on the cloudy side, cool with no humidity. This IS not part of the TR but I figured some people were interested... so I wanted to share. I'm sure everyone is interested in what I look like, so bam... here's a couple quickies. The rest of the TR is coming... soon!

The best trip ever, and with the crowds and tour groups 11 days was money and we needed every bit of it.

My wife and I were really bummed... we always missed this show in the past and decided this was the year. Maybe we amped ourselves up too much? I'll have to check out the DL version though. On a side note, I'd really love to see World of Color some day... DL might be in the cards in the near future.

The show is 'good' - it just has points that really drag it down.

The DL show has
- peter pan on the columbia instead of the rediculous pocohontas junk
- less reliance on the waterscreens
- better floats
- better finale
- updated projection, newer effects
- better dragon

DHS has
- better mountain for the sorsoror's apprentice sequence
- better fire
- better ka snake
- dedicated theater

The live action is just much much better, and with the recent upgrades (2009) the DL Fantasmic is just a league ahead.

Here's a teaser...

We need time for things to happen.
congrats sorry the Brazillians rained on your parade. We caught them one year when my wife and I were dating. I think it was October though!??? Could that be right? It was pretty bad and they ended up following us the day we went to Universal and we when we stopped at Kmart on the way back...LOL...it was bad but not nearly as bad as you and others have described it.
What a drag. It's definitley a huge cultural difference, and they're doing their thing and to them..it's just what they do.
Disney ain't stopping 'em, so I guess there is no way for us to expect it to stop. Just avoid those times of the year I guess would be the best way. Unfortunately being this was your honeymoon - You didn't have much of a choice.

Anyway congrats, and Disney Honeymoon is the best thing ever. We couldn't afford it at the time, but what better way for a Disney geek to kick off his new life? Good stuff.

oh absolutely, I mean... it is definitely a cultural issue. I was 14 once and went on school trips, of course we horsed around but we also knew that there were consequences. Doesn't hurt I went to an all boys private school so there were serious ramifications for myself and my parents. It's an issue of respect, or a lack of, in our present day society. People are just so selfish that they have no problem doing what they want at the expense of others... how many times did the flash go off on POTC, ToT, Small World (although that is not really a dark ride per se), COP. People have no problem taking a photograph (which will suck to begin with) and show no care that there are others who value the attraction for what it is, a classic piece of storytelling where you really become involved and are in the created mindset.

I like to consider myself a purist in many ways.

Agreed! We're very careful to make sure the flash is off when taking pics on a ride of any kind or in any dark public place (we have Cave of the Winds here in the Springs. Its gorgeous, but DARK! I hate when flashes go off like that). I would think it would be common sense for most, but sadly...it's not.

And I also agree....there should be SOME kind of consequences. I wonder if the chaperones think anything of it or is this how they behave ALL the time?

I'm a Disney purist as well. I am usually the one yelling to stop the flash after oh so many go off.

Congratulations and terrific report-We had Rae for our guide when we went on Keys to the Kingdom years ago and she was terrific. I'm glad to know she's still there. She's been a bunch of characters during her time there too.

We always go to Mama Melrose's-He gets steak and I get the chicken parm. I wonder how the folks from Brazil are at home?

Congrats! Thats awesome that you got upgraded to a theme park view room at the Polynesian.

The tour groups can be pretty awful, hopefully you were able to avoid them for the most part, flash photography on dark rides is just terrible.

I've never eaten at Tangerine Cafe, but if you're up for trying Middle Eastern food at home the Sultan's Kitchen in Boston is really good. Its on State Street, its more of a takeout place as well but its delicious, I go there on my way home from work sometimes.

Also, the pictures of you two in front of Spaceship Earth with the "just married" buttons are adorable!

I work over on Atlantic Avenue so I think I have seen that place, isn't it next to Al's State Street Cafe?

Word, Boston talk.

Congratulations! DH & I Disneymooned at Poly back in '94! It was such a lovely experience and still our favorite resort. We are now DVC members. In fact, our trip overlapped yours a bit. We were at the Villas at BC from 7/15-7/23.
We felt pretty lucky that we didn't have any run ins or bad experiences with the tour groups. We would go at EMH in the mornings, or right when the park opened, and they usually weren't there yet. I did get separated from DH & DD at one point by one of the groups. I said, slightly louder than normal, "I'm trying to get through!" The girl in front of me stepped aside and said, "Okay, sorry."
While I would prefer not to go in July, we're pretty much stuck for a couple of reasons. I'm a teacher and if we want a long trip, we have to go in the summer. Also, our DD is starting high school this fall and July is the only month she doesn't have practice.
Looking forward to reading the rest of your TR!

Great TR! So happy to see that you two had a great time and that the wedding went off without a hitch. Yeah, we honeymooned in Disney too and received a few sideways glances when people learned this. Ah well. DH and I got the honeymoon we always wanted and had a blast! (Second week in December)
Next week, we return to celebrate our 15th anniversary. Wouldn't go anywhere else. ;)

Congratulations! You both look fantastic in your photos, by the way. And I love your expressions on the TOT ride photos. Classic... :D
