The MK transit situation is becoming STUPID!

I've NEVER liked the whole transportation to MK deal. Call it magical or whatever but this is a prime example of why it's no good. It's a nice perk for resort guests, but what a pain it is to just get back to your car every night for the average guest/passholder.

Stay on property, problem solved. Also, what's average? Do we have numbers that show how many guests on a daily basis are staying on property, off property, and locals?

I know for a fact that one of the announcements at D23 will be a solution to WDW's transportation woes: Guest Teleportation, developed in cooperation with X-S Tech (interim CEO, Steve Jobs).

Seize the future, people.

"New Perk for Fall 2011 Resort Guests: Now when you leave the Magic Kingdom after evening EMH your journey back to your resort or the TTC will be a continuation of the Adventure! Will you Walk? Will you brave one of our smallest transport boats? (note: this choice will be enhanced during thunderstorms so run to those boats when you see an incoming storm!).Or board one of our 'Bus Cruises' for a truly Magical journey where youll get to meet many of your fellow Guests up close and personal" in reeeally small print "all monorails and large ferry craft will not operate"

....Let the Memories Begin.....
Buses are not magical. Motor coaches are magical! "The Walt Disney World Motor Coach System: Your highway on the ground to get you back to the Grand Floridian after 9 in the off-season! Welcome home!"

Has our society become that impatient that a 15 or 20 minute wait is the end of the World? (pun intended)

Well said. The way the MK is set up makes it unique from any other umusement park. I say leave it the way it is but improve the maintenance.

A bit more than half a mile walkway? It'd probably be cheaper to build a teleporter...

No, you only need to finish the path from the west side of the MK entrance over to the Grand Floridian. Its roughly 1000 feet of walkway, and two bridges. Then you at least have some way for guests to get to the TTC without taking transport.

It is all about maintenance for monorails. It is about scheduling for ferries and water parades.

The transportation to MK has worked since it opened in 1971. The question that has to be asked is why is it not working now?

We all understand that anything mechanical can break. I have had entire 2 week trips where the monorail was down, and that was in the 80's. The ferries worked out just fine as did the trams. When you are delayed it stinks. I have been there, done that, complained about it, and moved on. 20 minutes in the grand scheme of life is not a lot in prime season when most rides take an hour or more to wait in line for.

Oh my my... this story is just ridiculous. I've definitely endured my share of horror stories when it comes to returning back to the car/hotel after park closing, but this one tops all of mine.

Relax, your on vacation at DISNEY WORLD!!!! If there are thousands waiting to leave turn around and enjoy a bench maybe window shop or make a friend but most of all relax your on vacation. Its funny seeing people on these boards counting down their trips saying they can't wait to leave and I'm doing the happy dance then reading on another thread complaining that everything sucks.
&@*% happens folks enjoy the time that you are there. I'd rather be broke down or in line at MK than broke down on the side of a road or in line at the DMV or Walmart. just sayin.

If you dont want to run into a HUGE crowd, then how bout NOT LEAVIN RIGHT AFTER FIREWORKS, if the park is open later then take advantage of it. Ive never waited in a line to leave Magic Kingdom in years cuz i usually go when Regular hours are until 12am - 1am

I know that Walt Disney hated the Anaheim set up where guests could park right up by the entrance. He really wanted a "show" where guests would anticipate and then see the park and be inspired by it.

However (and I hate to contradict the man who started it all), the current set up is a logistical nightmare on a constant basis to get guests to/from the MK. We live in Ohio, and are DVC members, so always stay on property and always take the bus. I feel bad for those who drive and get caught in the nightmare that is "MK to TTC transportation".

Awesome. I'll stay on property instead of driving home at the end of the day.

 Exactly how I feel...why drive home 40 minutes when I could drop a few hundred dollars every time I visit WDW!

It doesn't make sense for those of us who live close by to drop the money on a hotel...especially when we're only at WDW for the day.

The people I really felt for were those waiting to get to the park for fireworks.

60 minutes after hitting the toll gate should be good enough, but many missed out watching by dock or boat or ramp.

What do you tell them???

The issue is that when one breaks down, the other MUST be working.

We have gotten stuck at MK the last two trips and refuse to go the day we leave anymore.

3 hours should be enough time, but we find ourselves running to the gate each time.

For those of you screaming "chill out, you are on vacation" should I just expect to throw hours of my vacation in the trash for BS????

The problem isn't the maintenence or the plan, it is the number of trains. They should have a 15 train fleet. At least 4 in dock at all times.

By having 2 out and 2-3 highly overworked, that's when these shut downs take place.

What happens if a REAL ferry problem occurs? Dock Crash? Engine failure? Sink?
