Yeah I guess the morning stress of having to be one of the first people in DCA is probably not worth the 30 minutes you’ll save in line. Unless of course one is a super early morning person - which I am not.
We're early risers and we'll likely be there at rope drop. BUT I have seen what @Web Slingerz #1 Fan is talking about. Even if you are one of the first in line, everyone smooshes together when they let you into the park to wait for rope drop and then people shove and run to get ahead of you. I remember this from the early days of CarsLand which is why we've always relied on FastPass for RSR.

Having said all of this..... I'm going after Avenger's Campus opens. That could change a lot too. Everyone might rush to go be one of the first to buy a $100 sandwich. 🤣 🤣

Yeah that doesn’t sound fun. Not worth whatever time you might be saving.

Hahah Yuck. Salami sandwich at 8am

Just go ahead and avoid wherever the mob is going 😆. I'd say Soarin, Guardians or Toy Story Mania are all safe bets for rides no one will rush to in the morning (but that all will get big wait times later on).

I’d say Soarin or Guardians first. TSMM consistently had lower waits than those two. In addition you can tag team it with Incredicoaster later in the afternoon which was also averages much lower wait times.

Do any of them have the chlorine smell of pirates?

Mansion night one was almost unnoticeable. It could be that I need to close the windows and let it go for a while with the door closed before getting the scent. I seem to recall that the initial burn of Extra-Terrestrial Adventure, which is vaguely chlorine-esque, was not as strong as subsequent burns where the scent started to stick and I'd come home from work and it smelled like walking in to the E.T. ride. I'll try Flume tomorrow.

I don't know if they're still doing the same procedures but because of social distancing they pretty much were not doing rope drop. Can roam around until park officially opens.
Well, now. This changes a lot. I guess I'll have to wait and see what happens. Thanks for the head's up.

Water Bottle Refill stations:

1) Where are they? (I know there is one in Frontierland, but I'm forgetting where the others are...)
2) Are they open for use during these crazy COVID times?

Thanks!

Some rides even open early from my recollection; don't know if it's the same at DCA, but I was able to get on and off Indy before 9 which was great.

Galaxy's Edge has the nicest one as @AL2000HS pointed out. It's also worth trying the Red Rose Taverne one in Fantasyland.

Yes... Soarin and then Toy Story (and check RSR to adjust as needed). Good plan.
I usually do Soarin' first too! Although I'm not sure how my plan will change given that Avenger's Campus is definitely going to impact the guest flow of the park; I'll be watching this Friday very closely.

@Curious Constance I think you're right about Hungry Bear. I'd forgotten about that area.

Thanks for the answers, everyone! I appreciate it.

Here's another random question:
Anyone know how long it is taking to get into the parks in the morning from the Harbor side? What time have they been opening gates?

Found this online from January 2020, so I’m either wrong about hungry bear or it’s just a water fountain under there. 😊

Where to fill your water bottle for free at Disneyland

  • Tomorrowland – Near the entrance to Autopia is a newer water bottle refill station.
  • Tomorrowland – There’s a second older one nearby at Galactic Grill. While this one isn’t as sleek, the water is still very fresh! Still, the Autopia one is much easier to find and use.
  • Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge – If you’re facing the Milk Stand, go around the corner to the left. You’ll see the rustic water refill station
  • Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge – A similar refill station can be found exiting the Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run attraction after experiencing the ride.
  • Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge – A third refill station is near the restrooms (or “refreshers” as they say in Batuu). It’s located between two tanks to the left of the restrooms. Just watch out – a creature “lives” in those tanks!
  • Fantasyland – Inside of Red Rose Tavern, look for the stained glass picture of Belle dancing with the prince. There’s an older model water bottle refill station located on the wall.
  • Frontierland – Outside of the Rancho Del Zocalo restaurant is a cart with an older water spigot, similar to the one found near Galactic Grill.

Unsure about when they open the Harbor security, but they've been opening the gates to both parks around 20-30 minutes before the parks open (so 8:30-8:40ish). I have heard they open the Harbor security check a little later than the M&F side, but I don't know about precise times.

Last Wednesday and Thursday it took me between 35-40 minutes after starting the security line at around 8:20am to get to the center hub. They opened the gates around 8:30am. The security line looked like this ...

All of the security entry points were fully staffed, and the line moved relatively quickly. The gates lines were very short, and all gates were fully staffed.
